FYI, the Navy has a chamber insert made to fire 7.62 in a 1903 and the Enfield. It took a chamber tool to remove the insert. As an aside, they also "the USN" made M - 1 Grands in 7.62. I have seen one and shot 8 rounds from it.
At any range, you can always find blown out 300 Win Mag cases that were probably fired in a 300 Weatherby. I've seen 300 Savage fired in a 308 Win, but they are nearly identical (on purpose).
The US army put thousands of rounds of 308 through 30-06 guns to make sure it would not cause damage because they knew it was inevitably going to happen. While not recommended it is safe.
I ask because I was thinking about getting an 30-06 in a bolt action and it would be nice to know I can shoot 7.62×51 or .308 out of it as well , Thanks . I've heard an 300 and 303 round mentioned so was wondering if it is possible to shoot those out of the 30-06 as well ?
@@Airon79 i would just stick with the ammunition the gun is built for. While i do stuff like this its more for scientific inquiry. Its not doing the guns any favors in the long run and is not something i recommend making a habit of.

Ive never seen either of those combinations but it makes sense to me. Im pretty sure 308 was based on the 300 savage.
I guess if you’re in an apocalyptic situation and all you have is your 30-06 rifle and only some 308 or 7.62 NATO you can survive a little longer.
I witnessed this happen with a 1903a3 by accident. No injuries and no damage to the rifle.

Wow! I did not know this was doable.
I learned about it at camp Perry at first because years before several hundred navy shooters had done this with m1s.
Saw it done by accident thirty years ago
Where at?
@@WastelandArmorer South Bay Rod and Gun club, Dulzura California, shooting M1As and either a P17 or an O3A3. nothing bad happened.
More like done out of carelessness/stupidity...😏
@charlestaylor253 an entire navy competitive shooting team did it at a camp perry match one year. It happens.
I see the grouping is somewhat okay but not centered so are your sights not lined up or is this gun not accurate anyways ?
Its zeroed properly with 30-06 ammo. Its super common for 308 to hit low left out of a 30-06, ive heard of this happening from other people as well.
