    We part timers in RV's don't think about moisture and mold and your video is a good reminder of full time living in a RV. When we are in Yuma in the winter moisture builds up over night but we open the windows in the daytime when it is warm to dry out the trailer. You do a great job of educating of full time living, thank you. Road Runner

    We have one about that size in our 30' tt . Works very well in the winter when it's raining or cold outside and warmer inside. Pulls about 80-90% of the moisture out and keeps the windows from all the condensation. I'm amazed how much water ends up in the bottom tray after 12-24 hours. I do not remember the brand of ours, but highly recommend anyone to get one.

    Ray, a suggestion: During your 'Winter Sojourn in Place' you might discuss how the utilities work for your park. E.g. you mentioned using a heated hose for your fresh water supply...but if you think that's a good idea, do you expect the park to periodically turn off the water? And what about the grey and black tanks? Any special precautions there? With the high winds, I assume your 'screen porch' won't be deployed. So are you content to go from dry/warm inside to wet/miserable outside...and where do those boots and coats belong? We've wintered aboard boats in snow country, so we know you will face some challenges. Please share if it makes sense.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  4 года назад +4

      Yup, I'll have lots of videos coming out as we get into winter and I can show what goes on. The screen porch just unzips and unclips so will use it when we can if the winds allow us too. Lucky it's not really snow country here, comes around in short spans then melts quickly, mostly it rains a lot here. Cheers, Ray

    I've had the Ivation 13-pint dehumidifier in my 20 ft travel trailer for over a year and couldn't be happier with its performance. It has worked flawlessly and as advertised. I love the extra heat in cold, damp environments. I don't run it during summer; it's not needed in conjunction with the air conditioner. My only nit is the drain hose connection to the unit, which is substandard in quality and prone to leakage. That's not a factor for me as I never run it unattended more than a day or two and always dump the tank manually.

      @@LoveYourRV I have one addendum to my previous comment. My unit did, in fact, develop the small rattle others have reported in their reviews after ~2 weeks of use. Not really that annoying but certainly something that wasn't there on first use. I disassembled the dehumidifier and determined the noise was originating from the desiccant wheel drive motor. Since the motor appeared to be sealed I didn't tear it down any further and resigned myself to living with it. Interestingly enough, over time that small rattle has declined and is now practically imperceptible. It will be interesting to see if you experience the same.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for the update. Maybe they are using a plastic gear to drive the wheel off the motor and it chatters a bit and has lessened as it as worn in more. Or maybe that wheel has expanded and contracted slightly over the course of time. Just some guesses. Cheers, Ray

    Hi Ray, I purchased the Ivation 13 pint dehumidifier (they don’t make the 19 pint version anymore). It works GREAT! Like you said, it’s quite and generates a little heat while it works.
    We vacation in Alabama in February and this will eliminate running the air conditioners to remove the humidity.

    Great overview, Ray. Anxious for your follow-up review. I'm thinking of getting one for our travel trailer, currently in storage. I'm just south of you near Seattle. I have an oil-type heater in the trailer set at 55ºF with a WiFi temperature/humidity sensor that I can monitor remotely. The trailer has been in storage for a couple of weeks now and the humidity is between 50-55%. I'm not sure what the ideal humidity level should be for over-winter storage. I'm also not sure how much water would be extracted in our 30' trailer since I don't have a convenient way to let a dehumidifier drain continuously. Thanks for your great work!

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 года назад +1

      Now that it's getting colder I've been running it 24/7 on the low fan speed plus some low wattage electric heaters and it's kept the humidity around the 35 - 45% range, so nice and dry in here, even with the roof vents mostly closed. Not getting any condensation on the walls or windows so quite happy.
      You are different though as you aren't living in the rig. We are constantly putting moisture into the RV with our breathing, showers, cooking, etc. Unless you have a water leak there shouldn't be much moisture inside to worry about.
      I don't think you should have a problem, just leave a roof vent or two open a little so you can get some air exchange. Also, a good idea to open up all the cupboards and pull the mattress away from the wall.
      For us the humidifier pumps out a ton of water, the 19-pint tray was filling twice a day before I put the drain hose outside. But I imagine a trailer in storage will generate much less.

    My small compressor type dehumidifier also uses about that much power. I was hoping this puppy would draw just 200 watts of so. Oh well. It seems very quiet compared to mine. Thanks for the video.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  4 года назад

      For me it doesn't really matter as I'll be using it exclusively as a cold weather dehumidifier and the bulk of the wattage I assume is to run a heating element as the fans are pretty low draw. So the heat this puts out will mean less wattage used by my other heaters. Cheers, Ray

  • @esquire9445
    @esquire9445 Год назад

    Just an fyi… after you run these for about three days inside your rv you will notice less water gets extracted and it will run less. There is moisture in everything, your towels, cushions, carpet, everything. After that gets extracted then everything is easier.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  Год назад

      Thanks, I guess that would be the case if you are not living in the RV like we were and it just sat in storage or something. But we were cooking, having showers, breathing, coming in with wet clothes, etc., so I didn't notice much of a decrease in run time since we were constantly adding lots of moisture.

      In this video, I completely disassemble my Ivation 19 Pint Desiccant Dehumidifier and try to figure out why it sometimes rattles and knocks. Overall I’ve been more than pleased with the performance of the Ivation unit other than the occasional bouts of a rattling, clattering type noise. In our rather small living space, it can get annoying when things are otherwise quiet.

      We are only on a 30 amp service so just going to have to use quite a bit of propane during the cold snaps. I'll try and save as much as I can via a few space heaters 600W under the skirting and 800W plus the dehumidifier 390W inside the RV. Like I said hopefully I can use my solar and batteries somewhat. I also have to power a heated water hose, so energy from electric is going to be a tight balancing act. When it gets the coldest. At least with separate low wattage items I can more easily do that and try an limit the propane and utilize all the free electric as much a possible.

    Hi Ray, when you have a few minutes, can you provide an update on your experience with your dehumidifier?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 года назад +1

      So far the dehumidifier is doing a great job! I just leave it run 24/7 on the low fan speed, it continuously pumps out warm air and it keeps the RV air nice and dry, comfortable. Inside humidity is usually around 35-40%. Haven't had any condensation issues. Even with the roof vents now closed for the most part. We leave the bathroom one open during the day and use its fan after showers on high to suck out any moisture created.
      I have it set up with the drain hose out a corner of the slide-out room so I don't have to worry about emptying the tray. So can't really say how much water it's removing, but before I did that it was fill in its 19-pint tray a couple of times a day. It sometimes does chatter or rattles a bit as some people claimed in the reviews but so far it's minor. I think it's the plastic gears that slowly turn the desiccant wheel as the sound comes and goes but could be the fan.
      Also, Here is an email I received from a viewer who bought one - "I purchased one as well, which has been doing a great job to date. The only unfortunate part is mine is really quite noisy! I’ll leave a video below, but I did contact ‘Ivation’ on the 19 pint unit, of which they stated they where now out of that particular unit now, but did offer to give me my money back. I’m unsure if I should do so, or try and fix the problem Ray, and thought you might have an idea of what to do, as I’m assuming it’s the fan, which they stated at Ivation as well?
      With that said, there is no way one could put it in their bedroom and have a good nights sleep, but…for us, it’s in our motorhome out in our driveway, so the sound really isn’t an issue in that regard"

      Will do. btw the other fellow I mentioned emailed me to say that Ivation gave him a refund and as able to keep the noisy one, so he is happy with that.
      "Hello Ray, best of the season to you and Ann, and Happy New Year! I just thought I’d touch base with you, to let you know that the company that sold our dehumidifiers is a solid one, in that they refunded the entire amount, since mine is a noisy one. We’ll just put up with the noise for now, and see if it settles down, or at least use it, until it isn’t doing it’s job any more. Unfortunately, the last several times I’ve been out to the motorhome to check it, the humid is not far off the 45% that I have it set at, so it’s just sitting in it’s ‘idle’ state. At any rate, again I thought it to be prudent to let you know that ‘Ivation’ sticks to it’s due diligence in treating their customers right, and I’m glad I made the purchase for knowing that, I would do the same thing again, and may do so if/when this one kicks the bucket!
      Stay safe Ray, and look forward to future video’s and blogs."

    Thanks for this video Ray, as I've been thinking of having a dehumidifier in our motorhome while in storage. I'll assume it's ok to leave it running at whatever I set it at, as it is stored at our home, but I'm thinking since the low range in the instructions (mine just arrived yesterday) is 33 degrees, as to adding additional heat, other than what the dehumidifier puts out? I do have a small ceramic heater, albeit it doesn't have a setting where it would shut off at a specified temperature, so I'm unsure of the safety of leaving it run 24/7? Perhaps I should purchase a heater that can turn off/on at somewhere above 35 F or so? I'm just trying to keep the humidity under the 50% range over the winter, so I believe this unit should do the trick where it will shut off and turn on within the range set! Thanks for the video, as it's been very helpful, as living here in the Pacific Northwest of Canada as you know, it can get damp for a long period of time!
