Absolute fuckin' BANGER of a song. I saw performed by Cave and the band at what is currently (in this weird pandemic time) the most recent Bad Seeds show, back in Toronto in 2018. Can't wait for them to get back out on the road.
Great album. He has many styles. Close to this and a favorite of mine is Henry’s Dream. Like short stories of lost characters in a sweaty humid violent south. Praying, drunk, and lost.
“The children are walking back from the beach Sun on the sidewalk is burning their feet Washing the salt off under the shower and just wasting away, wasting away the hours and hours and hours...” *Estuary Bed* The Triffids
"I tell you god put your bottom at the bottom of your bottom, so you don't end up with faeces on your faces. And behind your duodenum are your kidneys, and between them, they take the piss out of your other places" Everything in its Place by Stump.
Love this album and this track is one of my favorite off of it. I think Nick draws parallels between the monster you described in this video and who we can all be in a relationship that is not the healthiest.
Nick Waits in a Cave of Bad Seeds for Tom! (Inspired by a brain fulla bourbon, while Kicking Against the Pricks!) Tender Prey will be singing Murder Ballads & Abattoir Blues waiting on The Boatman's Call. You're batting 1000. with Tom & Nick consecutively. Peace and Let Love In you Nighthawk In a Diner.
One of my top 10 songs, Nick Cave when he was in The Birthday Party. The song is Release the Bats. It is the most WTF song of all time. I stand by that.
There's a live vid on YT of Nick Cave covering T.Rex's, "Cosmic Dancer", [which you've reacted to], and he does an amazing job. A hypnotic performance. This song is intense, in a good way. They've captured an appropriately menacing atmosphere. First time hearing for me too. Would I listen to it again though?, doubt it. I will be open to hearing a little more though, through your channel.
I’ve never really understood that level of lust, infatuation maybe is the closest. It was interesting, to me, akin to a old blues song mixed with terroristic noise onslaught tied to a chair. Brutal. He’s a obstacle course song wise and I don’t love it but, I’ll endure it. Peace and red face Music
Hi Justin , this song was covered by Metallica on their garage Inc covers album ,nick can have the most beautiful love songs or equally have a full album of murder ballads ( which definitely need a lyric advisory sticker ) I saw nick cave live before and he brought more energy on stage than a nuclear power plant on meltdown , and one other time he very reserved and reflective , I hope you stay on the nick cave journey , so many highlights , his later years , double album ,- abattoir blues / the lyre of Orpheus , was an album i listened to endlessly and is still one of my favourites from him , but so much of his work is just great music , keep rockin Jp 🤘
It’s so funny to me that his prior group The Birthday Party were very successful, yet his solo career didn’t catch fire until the 90s. His 80s solo material is definitely worth a closer look
Lolapallooza 94: The Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, George Clinton, The Breeders, A Tribe Called Quest, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, L7, Boredoms. I was there for Loverman.
Been listening to Cave since the early 80s and when you look back to his Boys Next Door/Birthday Party days right through to The Bad Seeds, Grinderman, movie scores and even books he’s written it’s one hell of a journey 🖤
I had listened to a couple of Nick Cave songs before this one (literally only two, one of which being "The Mercy Seat", which took a while to warm up to), but this was the one that made me fall in love. Let Love In and Henry's Dream are two of my favorite Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds albums.
Great Nick Cave. Love it. Interesting: it's not the album that I'd suggest somente to begin a NC journey, but definitely it's working. A great song that I almost have forgotten. Cheers, JP! And thanks for allowing me to listen to this strong track again.
Evening, Justin. Dave from That There London. Two For The Show, starring Tom Waits and Nick Cave? Both sing atmospheric songs with vivid imagery in the lyrics. But I just can't get on with their vocals. Liking Loverman and way it smoulders and builds, but imagine Jim Morrison singing it! I've just been watching Dusty Springfield's TV series from the 60s on the BBC4 channel. This week her special guest was Tom Jones - now, there are two all-time classic singers. Talking of which, I'm looking forward to next week when Dusty's special guest is Scott Walker.
You have to listen to "No Pussy Blues". It's incredibly noisy, angry, dissonant and grating, but so cool at the same time with his poetic and hilarious lyrics regarding his inability to get the girl he fancies into bed....."i even petted her revolting little chihuahua, but still she didn't want to". 🤣🤣🤣. Your ears will hurt, but you'll laugh.
Hey Justin, just dropping this: if you're fanty into some proto-post-hardcore-post-punk-melodic-proggy vibes, check out "Youth of America" by Wipers. Title track or "When It's Over" are great starters. Cheers!
Enjoyed your reaction, and feel like I got some insight from your analysis, but this comment is just to mention *The Nightmare Song* . You know how a dog will sometimes come back from the bottom of the garden with a very stinky bone it buried a very long time ago. Well this bone isn't stinky. So I'd better bail out of all that poetic metaphorical stuff, and just give you the link. ruclips.net/video/qA93YkOq7sk/видео.html (From the *Gilbert and Sullivan* opera, *Iolanthe* . Don't let it being opera put you off. It's one of their "patter songs", with lyrics that are deliberately challenging to utter without one's tongue getting in a knot. If you've never heard of Gilbert and Sullivan, you probably need to hear this, but if they're already something you're familiar with, maybe it's not your thing. It is quite a funny song, though. For some reason, at one time, at least, their operas were popular at MIT. I think there might even have been a G & S society there. That was in the great days of bicycle mechanic, Sheldon Brown, though, so that might all have changed since then.)
For me in the 90s this was the music that a lot of my friends really liked that I couldn’t understand. Loverman sounds a lot like Slenderman. I guess it’s just not my thing, but that’s not to say it’s not expertly done and deserving of praise. It’s just not anything I would playlist, that’s all. Too dark. I’d much rather deal with the cringe of “Hey Nineteen,” than the sleaze of “Loverman.” When the music is as dark as the lyrics, for me you have to be on Peter Hammill’s level to pull that off.
Sir could you do japanese idol kayou song? This one actually 岡村孝子 『夢をあきらめないで』(Official Full ver.) ruclips.net/video/4xUufRft9Hs/видео.html&start_radio=1
why not State of Independence Jon and Todmobile????? Please dedicate to all of Ukrainians who escaped from their country to mine, I mean Poland. I know you heard this with Vangelis but this is better. We all need this. To fight with terror Fiutin
You gave It a too literal interpretation or clinged to what you think the lyrics are about when in reality its more abstract and open to interpretation.
Jeez, that was awful. Patches of plodding tedium, interspersed with bouts of raucous screaming. A minute and a half in, I hated it. At three minutes I felt like it was never going to end. Nearly another two mins (seemed longer), before I was spared this drivel. Let's just say, not looking forward to any more of this guys guff.....
Nick Cave and Tom Waits is bliss
Great album. From Her to Eternity is also very good. Once Nick Cave has come to your life you can't let him go.

Love the grimy chaos of this song. The official song video they made for this song is worth checking out too.

Love how you describe it as “creeping across the floorboards.” Perfect words for that vibe.

After Tom Waits and Nick Cave, you always can try Swans. For example "Helpless Child" or "Screen Shot".
...or just go straight for Cop...

Yes, that double album is a great one, lots of variety in the compositions and musical texture.

I'm so glad you're enjoying Nick's stuff. It took me a while for it to really click for me, but once it did I was hooked.
Love this album, hope you check out the "The Good Son" album also, love it just as much.

You can't do any more Nick Cave without Red Right Hand
It's the next but one track on the album, so shouldn't have too long to wait!
Martin Gore has a solid cover of this one on his Counterfeit²

I love the lyric where he describes the devil as “weak with evil and broken by the world” what a great line
