This 64 year old grandmother is going out to change her own PCV.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
😅😅 nice work grandma!
Excellent and right to the point. No extra garbage.
Larry Pilkey what about the ad in beginning. 😆
amen to that
Very helpful, the idling was very irregular in my 2006 Honda Accord, after changing pvc valve has improved significantly. So thank you.
This man is a good mechanic. My 30yrs experience tells me so. Great video, right to the point!!
Thank you 🙏🏽 😁
2/2021. Nice video. I thought it would be just as fast for me. But I only had a regular 17mm socket, not quite deep enough for the old PCV valve and the 3/8" drive. The ratchet kept coming off trying to unscrew the old PCV valve that refused to budge, the 17mm socket then got stuck, and NOTHING's EASY. But next day, I used vise-grips to get the old socket off, sprayed the old valve with Liquid Wrench, bought a DEEP 17mm socket, and there you go! Bottom line, your video was great. I shouldn't have tried a shortcut with a regular 17mm socket!
That is good advice, thanks!
I like how straight forward you are, we need more videos like yours.
@@Productive_apparel thanks!
@ anytime bro, i did it so quick thanks to you. If you have an IG feel free to add my brand.
thank you so much! just replaced my pcv for 07 accord. oct 2024
You're welcome!
Just replaced it myself thank you so much.
Glad it helped
Good video, but everyone watching this, i would recommend just slightly tightening it by hand rather than torqueing 33ft, that stripped my pcv valve. I thought maybe i got a bad pcv valve, so i stuck the old one back and attempted to torque to 33, but i could feel the metal bits between the thread of the pcv stretch in my hand as i applied continual slow force to the 3/8th torque wrench. So i stopped and left it at that. I think it's has to do with the size of the crush washer, possibly the washer is too thin on some? Either way the operation of the pcv valve is pretty stationary besides the pin opening and closing, so hand tight should be safe. Just a heads up for anyone attempting this.
yes you are 100% correct I also stripped mine using 33 inch-point. What a scam..
thanks! saved myself $60.
Straight up on point! Nice and clear man, awesome!
Super clean engine I wonder what kind of cleaner you used to clean it that way
Thanks, I use purple power
Awesome! I'm going to do this today! Looks very easy! Thanks!
hola amigo gracias por tan valiosa información en tus vídeos, me gustaría saber acerca de cuánta presión puede aplicarse a válvula PCV de honda Accord 2006,
Son 33FT de torque
En el video lo menciona
very informative thank ,,if I don't have torque still I will be able to do it ?
yes, just hand tighten it.
Is the washer the same size you use for the oil and transmission washer? Thanks
It's the same size as the transmission oil gasket.
What if I don’t have a torque wrench but have everything else can I still change my PCV valve also what’s the purpose of changing it thank you.
You can tighten with a regular ratchet, just don’t over tighten it. And the purpose of changing the pcv valve is to prevent the vehicle from having rough idle due to a clogged pcv valve.
I am having rough idle and check engine light came on. do you think this is a pcv issue or egr issue or something else? I tried to trouble shoot it but I get a p1009 code from my scanner. thanks for videos!
+dannyny P1009 is a VVT problem, - Engine oil level
- Dirty engine oil
- Check VTC Strainer for blockage
- Faulty VTC Oil Control Solenoid or circuit
- Faulty VTC Actuator
- Engine mechanical problems
Help with this
+NutzAboutBolts I haven't done an oil change in quite some time. I will add some oil to the engine and get an oil change ASAP. thanks!
+NutzAboutBolts my wife drove the car around for a bit and the rough idle went away and then shorty after the check engine light went off as well. i went to the gas statin and bought motor oil anyway and put in about 1/4 of the quart. it runs as it should at the moment. how would i get this diagnosed? do you think it was bad gas or something that has been corrected?
+Danny Tam you gotta check what the check engine light code is, then reassess what just happen. Could be anything without knowing the codes. Fix the code then clear the code and reassess the vehicle to see if it has rough idle again.
I just did this, great directions. And, there is absolutely no way 33 ft lbs of torque would break or strip the pcv or hole. Some previous or current idiocy, or bad torque wrench I highly suspect. And much better odds it was the fault of whatever was holding the wrench..
i know this is really old but can the pvc valve cause a vacuum leak? i have check engine code p1071. very noticeable air hissing/leaking noise when accelerating hard. also brake pedal seems low on pressure, goes far down. replaced air filter hose that was cracked. no leaks between air box and throttle body. i can’t find this leak!!! could it be exhaust manifold also? going crazy
check the sensor that connects to the intake pipe, mine said too lean, and discovered it came loose off the intake
the pcv you have in the description comes with the washer right?
Doesn’t look like it, but you can add it in your cart if you scroll down where there’s a section to add it into the cart with the pcv.
So I check the link to the 3/8 Torque wrench. It says 30-250 in-lb. Up in the description you stated 33ft. lbs. Is it 33 in-lb? 33ft-lb is what I use to tighten lug nuts.
It’s 33ft lbs in the repair manual. If you don’t feel comfortable, just hand tighten it. There is a crush washer, so just make sure it’s crushed when tighten the pcv.
Lug nuts are tighten at 80 ft. Lbs...
If you have a clogged or bad PCV valve, does it cause the engine to sputter and have a rough idle when you start it? There's also oil sludge buildup in the intake manifold.
Yes, it’ll cause rough idling.
@@NutzAboutBolts so how do you test it once you take it out?
@@mjl6425 you shake it to see if you hear a rattle or not. If not, the check valve inside is seized.
@@NutzAboutBolts OK thanks.
Can I just clean it with brake cleaner ? I know its only about 10-15 dollars but I don't make much rn. And my cars been burning half a quart every week
Where is the breather hose located on a Honda Accord lx 2005
That’s what my code is on mine
Do these go bad alon on this make? Im burning loseing oil in 6 months
Hi there! My 2003 honda accord keeps cracking( won't start right up) every time i fill up the tank. Could that be a bad PCV or something else?
Esean St Hubert get your charging system checked out for free at autozone
Is it necessary to drain the oil before changing the pvc?
no
Is it 33lb torque? I brought a oem pcv valve and torque it to 33ft lb. The valve broke off. Thank god I was able to unscrew the threaded part from the engine.
@b Low same thing just happened to me. I didn’t even get to the “click” on the torque wrench and mine broke off. I also was able to get out the thread. I then just hand tightened it and gently snugged it with the regular socket wrench.
Quick question the hoe connected to the PVC valve would be the breather hose right?
how do u know when to change pcv... thanks much
juan lebron When you have rough idle and a CEL, and a plugged PCV system can cause engine oil leaks.
thanks
This is a show how not a tell why, try taking the pcv out and inspect it. They don't break they get clogged. Spray it out with carb/choke cleaner or soak it in it. It is all metal part so no damage can be done, keep the gasket separate though. If removal does not jeapordize the gasket my guess is clean the valve and reinstall it. If the pcv valve is gunked up with oil and or clogged, i.e. it the internal part won't rattle inside yes clean it or if you want replace it. I would take it a step further if it is clogged and oily and clean the tube connected to it, you are there so you might as well. PCV = positive crankcase ventilation think of it as a vent for pressure it can make a difference if not allowed to do what it should, a cheap easy fix by either cleaning it or replacing it. They sell them for $10 at the PePGirls or AutoAdvanced mostly junk stuff and some autoparts stores.
Dont overheat your car, run it on clean oil up to level, run run some good fuel injector cleaner through it every oil change, keep a clean air filter, inspect hoses, belt, brakes and tires, keep the air up to level and you should just key in and go on these honda's. My accord has 202,000 and I am not looking to replace it yet. The only negative I have noticed but does not affect me is upon start up their is some tick tack noise from a lifter but goes away once car is at operating temp. I have heard this to be a common problem, you crack the top end and do an adjustment but I can live with it. Solid car never had a CEL on every! Replaced plugs with direct replacment plugs the expensive iridium plugs for peace of mind and not even sure if it needed it. Good luck, love the honda and the 2.4L wouldn't even consider the 6 cyl.
You can burn oil too if the PCV is bad.....(use oil)
Motor City Man burn oil or develop a leak? There is a diff.
When I installed the new pcv valve to 33 ft lbs it stripped my threads in the housing. Yes, I know how to use a torque wrench. I have the FSM for the 2003-2007 honda accord and I dont find anything in there stating a torque spec for the pcv valve. Can you tell me where you found this information? Your videos are pretty good, I just ran into a pretty large problem with the information given. Replacing the water passage isnt the easiest of jobs.
Yeah, 33ft lbs is a LOT for that small part.
PDF manual states 33 ft. lbs. I even used a 3/8 torque wrench to demonstrate for it and didn't strip the thread. So I'm not sure where he went wrong with his torque to strip the threads.
Broke mine recently. I just snug it up only.
@@NutzAboutBolts Looked up Chilton Honda repair manual, it doesn't specify torque for PCV valve! 33 ft-lbs sounds about right for 17mm socket size. I think others could have used either aftermarket part or wrong washer or cheap torque tool to break that bolt.
Pirouz Farhani Chilton isn’t the best repair manual for those things, you need a pdf manual online. I have the torque specs if you want me to show you the image. Like I’ve said, I’ve torqued it to 33 ft. Lbs with a 3/8 ratchet. If you don’t feel confident, then just snug fit it like the other person did.
Another great informative video. Thanks
Thanks valve cover gasket and PVC valve in one day thanks to you)
Nice work!
How can I know when to replace PCV valve? What are the symptoms?
When you shake the pcv valve, if it doesn’t rattle, then the pcv valve is bad and needs replacing. If the valve is stuck closed due to carbon build up from the blow by gas, then it’ll cause the vehicle to idle rough.
My 2004 Honda Accord 2.4 seems to be burning oil. Would a bad pcv valve be a reason for this?
It can cause the engine to idle roughly and the Check Engine Light to illuminate. A plugged PCV system can cause engine oil leaks. Burning oil would be a common causes by worn piston
rings, worn cylinder walls or worn valve guides in the head. These
failures allow oil to slip into the combustion chamber and get burned
Some 2003-2007 Honda Accords with the 2.4 had oil consumption issues.
There was a recall and fix for SOME Vin numbers for a NEW motor from Honda.
You should check with your local Honda dealer.
The problem is with the piston oil seal rings, they were defective.
2003 and 2004's had a lot of auto trans failures too, Hondas are NOT perfect like a lot of people think!
Motor City Man
thanks, thats good to know. My vehicle is a 2006 and I haven't gotten the notice about that. I also recently checked my oil at around 100k miles and it doesn't seem to be burning oil, so that's a good sign :)
Question...if the new PCV valve doesn't come with the gasket/washer what size washer can I use? Is it the same size as the one on either the oil drain pan bolt or transmission drain bolt? I haven't done this on my car yet but just want to be prepared in case I need to get a different one
from what I read, its the same size as the transmission gasket.
Cool thanks!
Should you change your pcv for maintenance every couple years? It's so cheap that it's better than to wait until it needs to be replaced.
+Rich Lo not too early, they don't need to be changed every year.
@@NutzAboutBolts mine still works after 10years.
My pcv valve is made out of plastic. I submerged it in a mix of degreaser and paint thinner. It was clicking again. I ordered a new one just in case.
Is this also for a 2004 Honda Accord EX?
Hi the rubber holes ripped when I tried to pull it out of the PVC valve. What is the part number so I can replace the rubber holes. Do you have a video on how to replace the rubber holes?
Sorry we don’t have info on that, maybe call the dealership for the part number.
William Chau simple man. Follow the hose, disconnect it from the other end where it is connected and take it to the parts store. Or tell them you need the PCV hose for a 04 Honda Accord. Or whatever your vehicle may be. If you can’t figure this out then take it to someone who can. No disrespect, but you are going to cause more harm than good if something this simple stumps you.
he aint autozone buddy
Hey I have the 04 v6 model. The problem I'm having is warm air blowing on one side when ac running.
is AC low on Freon? whats the history of the vehicle before noticing that?
I have an 06 Accord v6. same issue. dealer count find problem. Turned out the accumulator dessicant bag failed and plugged the condensor. starved the compressor of oil and took out the compressor as well.
Change your cabin air fliter
old post, but for someone else who might have issue, turn the heater on full heat then turn it to coldest. it should free up.
Hey does the socket have to be 17 mm?
Yes 17 mm deep socket
hello.accord I have drowning in my vehicle.
if the pvc is full
Still active here bro I have some questions
My new one did not come with a washer so I put it on without one... will that hurt anything?
It will leak
they are $1.50 at Autozone, or a 4 pack for $3.00
I have a 2002 Honda CRV and I'm trying to replace the PCV valve it is in a very tight space.I have removed the clamp but now the hose seems to be stuck on the top end of the PCV valve. Even pulling really hard on it does not budge, any advice on how to split the hose from the Pcv valve so I can get it off with a socket?
+Integrafreak1 use a plier to wiggle it back and forth to break the hose, if that doesn't work, spray WD-40 on the hose and let the lube the hose up and you can break it loose much easier.
I have alot of cendisation in the morning light white smoke comes out exhaust will replacing pcv fix it?
It’s possible, has it been changed before?
@@NutzAboutBolts never
wahh Taoo I would change it and see if there’s any change
our 07 Accord seems to have light smoke from the tail pipe. doesn't seem to be running smooth something a lil off. has like gas or strong exhaust smell but no check engine lights.
you figure out the problem?
I sure wish the second generation CRV was as easy as this accord
went to change mine and its stuck stuck stuck... any tips?
Did you use a breaker bar?
This would be the same for an acura tsx, right?
If it’s the same layout and engine, yes.
why one change this? How to confirm that removed one is bad?
Rough idle due to a clogged pcv valve. Remove the pcv valve and shake it, you should hear a rattle noise, if not, then you’ll need to replace it
my 2005 accord v6,Leaking oil by the oxygen sensor . anybody knows why.
Thank you 🤗 excellent
Great video thanks
Your sure it's not Newton Meters not Ft/lbs?
Nice diy video. It will probably nicer if you explain how to inspect pcv valve, when to replace and other related info before just changing a part.
+Gerardo Hugo if you don't hear the pcv jiggles when you shake it, then its bad. You want to replace it when its bad or around 90k because eventually, it'll go bad. Some people use carb cleaner to clean it but I rather just replace it than to have it go bad later on.
+NutzAboutBolts Thanks!
Thank you!
Thanks man!
I get a smell of gas/oil when I turn on the heat in my accord 03 I believe... pretty sure it smells to when I use the a.c. in the summer... mainly smells when the defroster is on any ideas what thay could be? Valve cover gasket ? Pcv valve or maybe the engine is rusted and burning oil?
RIZLA stamoy I had a similar issue. There are many different possible causes. Either loose spark plug (if your getting a misfire), oil leak under the car or around the engine cover, or worst case fuel line leak/gas pump going bad best to get it checked out
Clean your pcv valve first just in case
You can take out the old valve, wash it with soap and water to get the grease out and test out the spring inside by pushing lightly on it and it should go back in easily. Why waste $60-$80???
The old PCV valve is all metal.
Who is paying $60-80 for a $30 part? www.amazon.com/Genuine-Honda-17130-RBB-A01-Valve-Assembly/dp/B00KTL454M
You are quoting the after market price; the OEM price is around $60-$80.
Wtf you mean? I linked a genuine Honda part with p/n for $30 on amazon
uhm.. I paid 5 dollars for this at autozone
@@zacharyayoubi7449 The extra money for an OEM part is worth it on this item in my opinion
33lb torque just destroyed the new valve's thread.
There’s a crush washer, and that’s the torque from the repair manual. Look it up.
Destroyed mine also. No way 33 ft-ibs
Which pcv valve did you buy? I'm trying to find one on amazon but they all look different
+dom flagepole I bought it at the dealership... Its more reliable than online and I hate returning parts that is needed at the moment.
+NutzAboutBolts alright thanks man
My nephew changed my PCV on my Element a few weeks ago, now that cold weather is upon is, the engine is still stalling during cold weather. Any ideas?
+Chewi863 any check engine light?
+NutzAboutBolts it will come on for about a day, then go off.
+Chewi863 get a scanner or have one of the auto shop get the code. Then google the code and it will tell you what you need to fix.
+NutzAboutBolts Thanks, I will
NutzAboutBolts hi! is your obd2 port kind of obstructed? mine's kind of slanted so i can't insert the scanner. do i need to remove the plastic cover?
by the way i have 03 accord ex with 95000 miles
And?
BS it's not 33ft-ibs. I did with a lexivon torque and stripped the valve and need to get a new one...I would have been better installing with my hand and then just a quarter turn to feel tight...ffs
My pcv snapped
How? It’s a metal piece…
33ft lbs is wrong , Honda must be making their new supply of pvc valves with inferior materials , I suggest just snug it … your funeral 😀
@@robertcowie8230 yeah, tell that to the manufacturer recommendation from the repair manual 😂
Thats a clean car. You dont need no freken gloves on that. Grow a beard.
jose Montouy If you’re going to insult someone, at least spell correctly.
Will this prevent engine oil in the air intake? I have oil residue in the air intake of my 03 accord. It does burn oil but it is through pipe that comes from the engine cover and inserts into the air intake.
