I can't understand how Lupe can be so goddamned underrated. Rarely rappers make me emotional and give me chills through their lyrics alone. Guy is brilliant.
He deserves to be much more famous than he is now. For now, when his songs rarely went viral. It's bad. But his songs became like diamonds, sittin' there, waiting to be found by people who actually appreciates this level of lyrical ability.
Bruce Snow The 2 wack albums that were a screw you to his label, didn't do him any favors. Even then, those wack albums STILL have some amazing songs on them. Lupe Fiasco is like Canibus to me. Both amazing rappers that deserve way more in their career, but major label issues halted their progression.
he was black balled. he has said it many times, even on this album. Not many people know that though for some odd reason, even though most lupe fans are already aware of it. its weird.
Song is about "Long Chains" slaves that jumped into the sea instead of becoming slaves. They live underwater and curse the water trees stars etc for their part in the slave trade.
Yeah, this album is super different, over my head at first. It's a concept album so I had to do some research, but I learned a lot. It challenged me. It's not for everyone, but I crave great albums like this. Lupe never dumbs it down for the audience. Please react to more from this album!
Lupe is so lyrically above everybody in the rap game. You literally have to research every line he says. Then you have to research the shit you just researched. It's not hard hitting punchlines. It's a rhyming lecture. The talent is takes to do this is so above and beyond the average rapper. Em can't even get to this level of lyricism. Also, for anybody that doesn't know, this album is about the slave trade. Mainly the journey from Africa to America. That 2nd verse is him just listing off slave ships. The album cover is a pic of manilla, which was a currency used in the slave trade. So if you want bangers and radio music, this album ain't for you
It's also about resurrection and giving an alternative destiny/story to lives that ended tragically. For example, this song is about slaves that didn't survive the trans-Atlantic journey from Africa to the West Indies (they were buried in the Atlantic so to say) but what Lupe does is change the story a bit; he resurrects them and gives these slaves (who Lupe calls the LongChains) an alternate destiny. Instead of drowning, the LongChains survive and live underwater (the clue to the concept is when he says Davy Jones locker) and spend their lives sinking slave ships and saving slaves (Lupe lists the names of slave ships sunk by the LongChains in the song). Lupe takes these slaves that died tragically and gives their story new life by making them into a legend, the LongChains. By the way, the LongChains save themselves just like Alan in Alan Forever and Jonylah in Jonylah Forever. In Jonylah and Alan forever, Lupe does the same for both Alan and Jonylah who died tragically and and tragically young. In Imagine, Lupe talks about his journey as a rapper and the death of his career in Atlantic (the label) and wonders about alternative outcomes. His struggle with Atlantic has always been about his lack of freedom, both financially and artistically. On and on throughout the album. This is one true masterpiece.
GURU Ka is a Brownsville rapper his cadence is much like Roc Marciano and Earl but that mans penmanship and lyricism is underrated asf. I’d check out some of his stuff like Grief Pedigree, Honor Killed the Samurai, and his joint project he did this year with producer animoss called Orpheus vs The Sirens, def top 3 RAOTY imo
After hearing the name of all those ships,I felt a dark cloud of sadness. Thinking about all those souls stolen and broken away from their families and land. Esau tells us it's in the pass and we need to get over it! In the same breath they speak on the holocaust, Pearl harbor and 9-11 and say never forget. Lupe always brings it!!!!
Incase you not aware, this whole album is about the slavery from back itd. Crazy concept. Lupe killed it. AOTY Also, in the 3rd verse he was singing all the Slaveship names, incase that confused you.
The whole album is a story from begining to end. Very complex, and will take many listens to grasp everything but it's worth it. Lupe is amazing. The album is phenomenal. Great video! keep it going! Keep representing good hip hop! :D
Lupe fiasco is crazy man literally his bars are on another stratosphere you cannot listen to it once and catch it all you have to keep listening to him over and over again
Listen to lupe fiasco -murals. Its off the album tetseuo and youth album. The album is meant to be played backwards as well as forwards. Prolly one of the most creative and underrated albums in years.
This album is unbelievable Preston. Please check out more from this album. My faves are king nas, stack that cheese, and mural Jr. But the album is perfect and any track will satisfy you. Love your reactions
Man I felt Wav Files in my spirit when I first listened to it. This album is special. Very Special. Please react to Manila or Happy Timbuk2 Day from Drogas Wave.
I thought I was spoiled after getting a logic and eminem album release in September but when I listened to this album, it was the best out of all 3. I am now officially a Lupe fan. He didn’t hold back anything on this album. Album of the year..You’re damn right
its different!!! lol perfect title for this video. This is my favorite track off the album.. One of Lupe's best all time. love your reactions bro keep it up
Im happy you made a react video to this. This is the stuff that should be circulating. anyway good stuff.
Lupe isn't trying to be different he's not wasting talent to do nothing with it. He's repeatedly delivering a message of truth to his brothas and sistas.
Jonylah forever by Lupe Fiasco please!!!! It’s about the little 5 month old girl who was shot in a passenger seat with her father in Chicago.. true story you gotta react to it
First listen through I was like I have to instantly repeat it, then the second time when I understood exactly what he was talking about and caught the lyrics I caught goosebumps instantly bro great reaction my guy
First off I havent put down this whole WHOLE album since it dropped. Wht like 5 or 6 weeks now. I still hear and Learn something new every day. So crazy this song is so fire!!! Most underrated MC. Second love the Seahawks beanie #gohawks
I love how Lupe switched up his style on this song, to sound Caribbean..similar to Mos Def. Which is ironic, because the song about the Atlantic Slave Trade/Amistad and the Souls of his Ancestors.
This was, by far, the best hip hop album of 2018. And prolly most slept on too. Unfortunately I think the whole concept and complexity and depth went over most people’s head.
I love the imagery and mythology he creates referring to slavery... this track was written flawlessly from the lyrics to the track... it’s brilliant... The creativity is reminiscent to “The Cool”
I take it this guy is also a lupe fan ..props to sharing light to such a masterpiece.lupe too underrated, I feel like his music is not accepted nowadays and it hurts me soul.
The things he was saying was raw and real, but in such a peaceful manner that truth bites like a damn pit bull. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but I liked it. Keep it going man.
First ❤️ nice content! Keep up the great job.

That slave ship verse is just... damn. Long Chains pulling all those boats down
@@Comrade.Question Damn right man, shit hit me hard.
No the whole album isnt about slavery. Its about resurrection.
@@chaosinorderrr It's about slavery. This album is lupe's resurrection as an artist after he put out those mediocre albums last year and 2016.
The concept is about slave ships that sank and the slaves lived underwater.
Wav Files is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard
