I have a piece of angle iron about five foot long with two holes drilled in it, that I bolt to the hub, then apply full torque. That tool you use is very handy. But most places that carry it are usually out of stock. The angle iron is an easy alternative if you can’t get the tool. For flywheel, I use a locking tool. Great video by the way.

Good video, Slade. I use a regular claw hammer to remove the cap from the front brake drum. Lots of leverage, and no fighting and twisting of a screwdriver. It’s just like pulling a nail. You just hook the claw in the cap lip, and push the handle toward the drum. Spin the wheel a little while doing this.
The controversy about the rear wheel nut is such a joke. It’s 217 ft. lbs. for swing axels, and 253 ft. lbs.for IRS (cars with CV’s). So, if you own a 1969 and later Bug, you go 253 ft. lbs. If you own a 1968 and earlier, you go 217 ft. lbs.
However, there is one exception to this rule: if you own a 1968 autostick bug, you also torque the nut to 253, because the 1968 auto-sticks have CV joints..

Once again an excellent DIY video on the brakes and hub. Since I have had many presenters use various points to lift the VW up could you give us your points of lofting the Bug up and where are your preferred points to apply jack stands. You could incorporate these points in any point of a video you are filming or just show them as stationary. pictures. Just my request. Thanks and keep these videos coming.

And of course I will be doing oil change very soon on a friends beetle, so I’m going to film it.

I received my Torque Multiplier not long ago. Today I torque those hub nuts down. I bought this 1 (2) trick Pony because I want to KNOW the torque value of the hub nuts. Luckily, I bought it just before the 33% price increase. I thought $99.95 was expensive.......

A 5 foot iron pipe does the job for a lot less money. and only use a breaker bar, not a rachet that might strip the internal gears.
