The other night we were at a cruise in and an elderly man was looking at our crown vic frame swap F-100 and he thought the 2 valve 4.6 was a Chevrolet motor. I told him what it was and he told me that engine would run longer than a small block because it has 5 main bearings and and small blocks only have 4. I was taught to respect my elders, so I held my tongue. So, Richard, you are really flirting with disaster with that 347 since it only has 4 main bearings!! Be careful!!! I had no idea RHS heads flowed that well. For some reason I thought they were more on par with Ed Performers and some of the off-shore alloy stuff. Nice to know. Great tests, effective for delineating what kind of results your particular path could reap. Makes me wish I had lower compression, and, especially, the "disposable" income to boost my stuff. Last blown Mustang I had was not all that impressive, but probably the PO's combination of parts was to blame.

    Hey Richard!
So back in the day I built my first (and so far only) V8 for myself. It was a 306, Eagle rods, KB pistons, your favourite cam (TFS stage 2 224/232), Powerheads CNC ported E7TE heads, an Explorer intake, and long tubes flowing through a 2.5" Magnaflow exhaust. I never really developed it beyond the initial stage, it made 252/280 at the wheels, and since then I've wondered if I'd made a couple wrong choices that limited me.
The TB was a 60mm and "I read" that a larger TB would only be worth a couple. The headers were 1.5" as I wanted to keep a bunch of torque, but maybe larger wouldn't have hurt. I also wondered how those heads were doing, if they were really capable of more or if I would have been better with some Edelbrocks (let alone the AFR 165).
At the same time my buddy built his own 306 with the same cam but with bigger everything - ported Edelbrock heads, 1.625 LTs, a single plane and a 650 - and he made the same power as me but way less torque (no kidding) on the same dyno day. That made me think I was on the right track with mine...
    Whadda ya think?

    • @richardholdener1727

Could test the difference between mounting it on top of the engine vs off the side of the engine vs a centrifugal. By the way, my buddy split his block in half, launching on that set up with a 125 shot of nitrous!! So yes it does happen, not a myth.... Keep up the good work man!! I'm an LS man now, 2000 WS6 Trans Am, Still like the Mustang though, you can't forget your high school cars...

So i was at my local cars and coffee last week and met the organizer whos an old foxbody guy
he was telling me that making a 450HP 347 is a kind of a waste of money because what he would do back in the day is get a stock 5.0 and put it on a progressive 225 shot and well, now hes caught up with you and your 1500.00 stroker kit and notched block and bigger heads lol
blow it up. oh well, it was a 5.0 go get another engine all you had in it was the nitrous refills and tuning time lol
makes me wanna either just stay 302 with bolt on or go 363W
    or make a 500HP N/A 347
    any thoughts on that?

I’d like to see a back to back test with a similar setup to the 666hp combo shown here. But test 1 stock ignition. Test 2 typical MSD 6AL test 3 LS style coil near plug. Holley has made it pretty easy to goto coil near plug now, but is it worth anything at all vs the 1970’s MSD box ? Lol. I’m an LS guy, but I love the SBF stuff too.

I'm getting ready to put a roller block 351 together for a tow application, looking to go high torque. I have acquired a set of +p heads. I would like to keep stock fuel injection with upgraded throttle body, injectors and a tune. My question is am I spinning my wheels with this combo or should I go with aftermarket heads and intake? Also what cam would you suggest for this application?
Thanks, love your videos, learning so much.

the P heads would be better than stock, but not as good as TFS or AFR. A cam is a good idea

Like to see try y headers vs others. All so like to see how the offenhauser duel port intake performs as well as the offenhauser 360 split single plane. Would like to see a super tall 4 hole carb spacer say 8 plus inches tall on a duel plane . All so like to see a tall 8 in+ tall 2 hole spacer on a duel plane. My idea is to make a engine with a broad power band with a lot of low end. Love to see a custom intake that could out do the rpm air gap! Has to be a carb intake.

How much power can you weasel out of a 302 HO sbf with a stock cam, and no supercharger....?
For us guys with an auto and tall gearing that value gas mileage....

    • @povking1460
      @povking1460 4 года назад

Not much more than stock. Intake and headers. Better off putting in an rv cam for about 300hp. If you want 400hp you need bigger cam, higher stall converter, and rear gears. Aluminum heads will make more power with less camshaft. Low end torque will suffer though.

I am not a fan of the 347 architecture because I'm concerned about the piston speed and the side loading of the piston in the cylinder. Won't those two factors cause the engine to wear much faster than a 331 or stock 302 stroke?

    • @superkillr
