I love how Bump is able to admit when he's wrong and does keep his word. He's a great subversion of typical teachers in a show like this, and one of my favorite characters.
Principal Bump was always a personal favorite character of mine. He definitely subverted the hardass principal trope without being incompetent, and I appreciate it.
I love the little detail of Amity being nervous about Luz going to the same school. I love Amity's character developement. Dana did amazing writing this show!
I love Principal Bump. He seems like a villain when he first appears, but then it turns out he's actually a reasonable authority figure who genuinely cares about his students and is just as much of a goofball as everyone else. He's definitely one of my favorite characters. I forgot that Luz was the first person we see in the show to call him "Princey B". I can only hear it in Young Eda's voice.
"So you two go to the same school now, this doesn't change anything" ~ What can Amity just mean by that. 🤭 I love how Weeby was the first episodes like, "they should be besties" and now she's slowly on board with the ship. ❤
Funny story: when this episode first aired, it actually had an animation error. During the opening, when Luz is backstage talking to Eda, Luz was wearing the multicolored class uniform she got at the end.
Remember, the bile sac that gives witches their magic is directly connected to the heart. So draining their magic basically mean draining their lifeforce. That's important to know.
I love how although it took him a little to realize the inspector was an imposter, once he did Principal Bump actively chose to put himself in between her & Amity in order to protect his student. He tried to shield her from danger by putting himself in it. That just shows how much he does care for his students and how he wants to keep them safe. His adherence to the Emperor's Coven's rules was just him looking out for the students, but he does acknowledge that he was wrong in the end after seeing the benefits of mixing magic in action. Even though he's the head of the school, it shows that even he can learn & grow as well. It's a great way to show kids that adults may not actually know everything, and have room to improve & grow too.
Mixing Potions with Oracle Magic CAN be useful...you just have to use them in a different way. One idea I can think of is creation potions that allow whoever drinks them to see brief visions of possible futures
I like to share to you and your community to say during this episode, it started the spark of “Owl House Sonas” for artist to draw themselves as Witches/Wizards throughout all ages that like to be in a coven or covens. 😄 Also there is a quiz out there you can take to assign you to gain some covens within each description on what they do. I highly recommend you give it a try and let your artist side of your community make you an Owl House Sona. As I feel like you might like Beast, Illusion, and Bad Girl Cove within what I see in your channel status. But I can be wrong on it 😅
As a guy in his 50s watching and loving this show, Bump was a godsend. I can relate to the kids through my memories of childhood, seeing aspects of myself in Luz, Willow, Gus, Amity, and most particularly [redacted], but Bump is someone I can relate to who I am right now. Like him, I'm a smart, experienced guy in a position of responsibility, dedicated to my job, and confident in my ability to do it. I also like to think that like him, I'm not locked in to the 'official' way of doing things, and pay attention when new ideas come along. In this episode, Luz gives Bump an opportunity to make up for his unwillingness to help Eda with her broad interests back in the day, and he doesn't make the same mistake twice. He sees what makes Luz remarkable, and realises the best thing he can do is foster it, not only in her, but in her fellow students. He may only be 300 years from retirement, but this old dog is ready to see some new tricks, and never mind what the Emperor thinks! Also, Viney! Love that girl. Great design and concept. Wish the show had gone long enough that she could have got her own episode to fill in some back story.
Episodes like this really make me love Principal Bump as a character! He had a bit of a rocky start with how he tried to dissect Luz but the more we see him we see he's a dang good principal. He's funny, he admits when he makes a mistake and while he does try to do what's best for the institution, he makes sure not to forget that students are the foundation of what they do at Hexide.
The two moods from this episode when it aired according to the fandom: “Viney!!!!” “So you two go to the same school, now. That doesn’t change anything! Sigh…”
It'll take a while, but the school allowing students to study more than one track will definitely come back up later! Also, King trying to pull a School of Rock type thing right at the very end only to get chased off with a broom kills me every time lol Edit: idk if anyone else mentioned, but Dana did say in a Q&A I believe at one point that the "300 more years until retirement" line was meant to be taken as a joke and witches don't actually live much longer than humans in this world
I don't know if u noticed, but Eda was also in the potions track, so Luz was literally following in her footsteps. But also, this ep and this show overall highlights so many things wrong with our education system not just in school, but even in university (speaking from expirience). It's this idea that students must only study in a certain way and this way can never change. I like how here it takes the form of tracks, as it is also a comment on oppressive systems. And that scene with Amity is... Smth.
Bump is an awesome headmaster. While watching the show it kind of made me want to get back in school somehow. Fun fact - he & Boscha make up the name of Hieronymus Bosch - one of the artists who inspired Dana Terrace to create the show. (His full name is Hieronymus Bump)
I think I have an Idea that would work well in this universe. Assuming a 4 year school period, Year 1 Semester 1, you study everything. Y1S2 you drop 1 thing and double down on another. Y2S1 you study 7 things 2 of them twice. Y2S2 6 with 3 doubles. Y3S1 4 double courses and 1 more thing. Y3S2 1 triple and 3 doubles. Y4S1 3 Triples. Y4S2 1 Quadruple 1 Triple. At the end you pick your coven. This prevents students from having their most talented track ignored in favor of "better job opportunities" like Willow. It also lets those who make it into the Emperor's Coven be better at their jobs because they actually know the other magic they are now able to do.
With this, the Second-Half of Season One Starts for Real and i wish we could’ve gotten more Episodes focusing on Luz’s time at Hexside, but oh well should still be fine with what we have and will look forward to see your Future Reactions.
I know he acted like it was random, but I headcanon that Bump usually puts students like Eda and Luz who can't choose a track into Potions because it's the closest they can get to doing everything while still following regulations (you could theoretically make a wide variety of potions). Either that, or he put her in Potions cause he thought it'd be easiest for a human who can't do magic the traditional way.
Don't know how far you're recordings are, hope you get this: You have to dress up fancy for the episode 16 reaction, or else Hooty will haunt you. Crikey! if Luz had taken Eda's advice, she'd have had to punch Amity in the face 😂 She actually fell for that Amity line🤣, remember this is still Disney we're talking about
Word was Luz going to school was something that Disney wanted in the show, despite Dana not wanting it. I feel it shows as there’s a certain element of “meh” to these Hexside episodes.
i get both sides of the coin. Like on one hand you want your students to to be experts at their traks so they can join a coven already strong. on the other side it would be better to let them test out diffrend magic fields before they decide which one to focus on. im glad Bump choose to agree to multi-tracks and he can definetly argue that students should try the tracks out before dedicating their life to it.
The next episode is one of the weakest in the series so I'd recommend the next to be the last 2 episode reaction since every single episode going forward is an absolute banger
4:38 This reminds me of The Simpsons episode where they show Homer's origin of getting the job at the Nuclear Plant, and when he comes home to give the good news, Bart quietly throws the cake out that says "At least your tried"
I feel Luz should have put more effort into learning potions even before now. Eda sold potions for a living, the human trash was a side hustle. She should have taught her something before now. However, Luz wants to do the flashy stuff she can't learn, at least not the same way they do it. She uses a different magic system but she should still be able to make most potions. I feel it is like the training wand all over again, though she was able to summon that oracle spirit.
Yeah, he’s honestly pretty cool when you get to see more of him. XD
Best Principal.
Yeah, and seeing his time under Principle Faust makes it clear that Bump cares about actually helping his students; which is very respectable.
"I kinda ship it" - well you are certainly not the only one
Too bad this is Disney, so they'd never allow two girls to get together.
@@KBRoller Crikey, I wish they'd allow it... 😔
@@KBRoller If only… 😔
"i feel like potions is the worst choice for her" well its probably the only one she can actually learn, because you need magic for the others
Also, that was Eda's track, so Bump knows that she has a really good mentor to help with her homework.

0:34 Actually Weeby, in Harry Potter, major characters first started dying in the fourth book, not the sixth.
Luz: "What if I die?!"
Weeby: "Girl, it's not that serious!"
Ah...it actually might be? The Boiling Isles is different.

Such a fun episode. And yeah... will Bump get into trouble with the Emperor for this? I guess we'll see!

Little did we know that “inspector” plays a much bigger role in the life then any of us ever anticipated

I like that Luz met other hexside students. They are great showing that Luz, Willow, Gus, and even Amity aren't alone.
Every time you say Cohvin I’m thinking Covid and like what? 😂but yeah it’s pronounced CUH-ven
Princy B rising to the occasion! Always appreciated how quickly he threw himself in front of Amity the moment he realized she was in real danger.

See unlike a lot of principals Bump will fight for his students and try to protect them from a crazy monster in the building. Take notes Dumbledore.
