Nitin Gadkari, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Monday (19 July) said that so far, 703 km length of National Highways have been constructed using waste plastic.
Indian Roads Congress (IRC) has formulated guidelines for using waste plastic in hot bituminous mixes for wearing courses.
Green National Highway Corridors Project (GNHCP), 781 km length of various National Highways passing through Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh would be upgraded.

Segregation of Trash remains a major issue, Delhi government should make it a mandatory subject and raise guidelines for entire Delhi ASAP. I can't believe this shitty government is not even trying. Atleast educate the educated people to segregate the trash into organic and non-organic waste. This saves millions of dollars in return, allows good recycling of materials and better hygiene for all.

where a resource is used for making profit and during that process the waste which is created can again be used for creating something valuable.
eg like stated above plastic road
- recycling solar wafer
this is one those fields where extensive r&d is required.

When will Mumbai BMC start using it's massive amount of muck to improve the quality of it's potholed roads? The technology is available. The King of Highways & Flyovers Minister who hails from Maharashtra is so helpful. Yet the Maharashtra MVA government is not using this to improve the quality of the city's roads. That is because their hafta from road Contractors, who repeatedly do patchy sub-standard road repairs (can't blame them), will no longer be available.

It sounds very good, but long term impact needs to be seen... I think the fundamental problem of plastic pollution still remains the main issue, once the road starts breaking down the plastic particles/bids will be washed off into the drains/gutters and eventually into river, ocean and in fishes/marine lives. It can never be recycled again. It's the same issue due to which shower gel with plastic bids were banned few years back. We need to invest in bio-degradable plastics.

YES.........I have seen roads made by using plastics, in my locality i have that road. Crude oil is expensive day by day and its products like asphalt, petroleum, diesel and kerosene everything are getting expensive day by day, So my request to Govt. of India is that, the Govt. should promote this technique to make roads in every corner of India, so that our Indian roads will be smooth and fine one day like foreign countries have.

I'm from Surat and one day I slipped on a plastic road as I was learning to ride a bike and I applied the front brakes in panic 😂

There are 2 or more sides to effects or after effects. A plastic is as good as you use and is bad as abuse it’s usage.
Human comforts are significant factor in Human Development Index, and usage of chairs, tables, etc are part of comforts and plastic plays significant role. A good quality plastic chair or table or any other will help in reduce to cut down trees ..
Without the advent of plastic our comforts would have been made using lumber/ tree.
So A plastic is as good as you where and its usage.

Road dust is composed of rubber from tires and tiny fragments of materials used to make the roads. Substituting 10% of Bitumen, a fossil based petroleum product with plastic waste is a sure way of converting the plastic into airborne dust particles that will ultimately find a way through our lungs into our bodies besides entering our food chain. The ancient Roman roads just used local stones, paved in a way that despite chariots, horses, wagons, and 1000s of years, the roads still remained without introducing toxic airborne pollutants.
