      Unfortunately not with the over-the-counter SELF-TEST version in the video. There is a BinaxNow HOME TEST that can provide a digital pass and is essentially the same test, but that test is NOT sold over-the-counter -- it must be ordered through eMed.com, which can FedEx the test to you the next day (except weekends) and is only sold in packs of 6, with one test per pack. You get 6 individual tests for $150, plus FedEx shipping and taxes. When you are ready to take that test, you perform the test while online with an eMed representative. You'll also need to create a free account on an app called Navica. If the test is negative, eMed issues you a temporary pass on Navica, which usually takes 15 minutes but can take up to 24 hours to issue. That pass is valid for 72 hours if negative, or 7 days if positive. So, unfortunately, you cannot simply go into a pharmacy, buy a test, test negative, and get a pass. You'll need to spend $150+ and wait for your test to arrive before you get potentially get a pass. In addition, airlines accepting the Navica pass appear to be very limited in number. Other types of tests and documentation are more commonly accepted by airlines.

    My understanding of the significant benefit of this test is to know whether you are currently able to pass the infection on to someone else. A negative result does not indicate no infection - it simply indicates not enough infection to pass along the virus. This can indeed be very significant, especially if the test is administered frequently and the results are available in near real time.

      Please see our answer to Gina, above, because, unfortunately, the over-the-counter version won't work with the the Navica app, so it won't give you a digital pass. A "HOME TEST" version needs to be purchased and it's only available for purchase on-line right now. As for sporting events, like a baseball game, it's possible that the venue may accept seeing the actual negative test card from the test in the video above (the "Self Test"). Here's what it currently says on the MLB - Yankees website (www.mlb.com/yankees/ballpark/health-and-safety/testing-requirements-faq ) : "At-home COVID-19 rapid antigen tests, such as the BinaxNOW Self Test, will also be accepted if they are taken within six (6) hours of the scheduled start time of the Event you are attending, along with an appropriate ID matching the name on the COVID-19 test results. Upon entrance into the Event, Guests tested using the BinaxNOW Self Test must bring their test results to show proof and confirm negative COVID-19 test results taken within six (6) hours of the scheduled start time of the Event you are attending. BinaxNOW rapid antigen tests can be purchased at major retail and pharmacy locations."

    I did the test by myself for first time, and it showed a pink line which says that it was negative. But I have a doubt:
    I was trying to put 6 drops in the top hole: but I think I put 5 and a half because I failed a little bit. I put the swab in both nostrils by circling 5 times, but in the left one I did it in less than 15 seconds.

    • @ConsumerlabPlus
      @ConsumerlabPlus  3 года назад +1

      Good question, but this is not suggested in the instructions, nor by the CDC (www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/testing/How-To-Collect-Anterior-Nasal-Specimen-for-COVID-19.pdf). For some tests requiring swab samples from nostrils, blowing the nose beforehand is recommended, but only to remove thick mucus (see here as an example: www.fda.gov/media/146500/download).

      Faint lines should be in the instructions on wether that means it’s a positive or negative. It should be a strong line or otherwise it’s a negative depending on instructions. I took a drug test 3 times over a 24 hour period and one of the test came back with a faint line for mdma which I’ve never done. Went to go take a drug test the next day and I was cleared of everything. Sometimes the faint line shows up it’s best to have 3 test kits to be safe if you can get your hands on one.

    Can blood on the swab from a dry nose cause a false positive? My result shot up the panel and gave a super strong pink sample result right away (immediately), and stayed there well past the 15 minutes. Just curious, I'll be getting a PCR test to confirm, but it begs the question.

    • @ConsumerlabPlus
      @ConsumerlabPlus  2 года назад +1

      If it was just a pink band, that’s very likely a positive result due to the virus being present in the sample, not the blood.

    • @ConsumerlabPlus
      @ConsumerlabPlus  2 года назад +1

      It's smart to double check this result with a PCR, or retest with a cleaner sample, as this could certainly be true positive. We did find, however, that the FDA has noted that "Test interference from patient-specific factors, such as the presence of human antibodies (for example, Rheumatoid Factor, or other non-specific antibodies) or highly viscous specimens could also lead to false positive results."

    • @ConsumerlabPlus
      @ConsumerlabPlus  3 года назад +1

      That's right. It is easier to miss an infection with an antigen test than with PCR test, as it only detects high antigen (virus) levels. If you took the test too early the first time, the second test may be positive, since your viral load will be higher. The major focus of the test is to help identify infections.

    What happens when you have a positive antigen test but a negative PCR test ?

    • @ConsumerlabPlus
      @ConsumerlabPlus  3 года назад

      It would likely depend on the time between the two. If they were the same day, the PCR would be considered more reliable. But if you were positive with the antigen test and didn't get the PCR until several days later, when viral levels had fallen, they could both have been correct.

      If you test negative twice (at least 2 days apart) and have no symptoms, it's very likely that you are truly negative and should use the standard precautions.

      The results suggest that you may be contagious. Getting a PCR virus test at a lab would seem appropriate.

      @@born2reign90 quarantine for a vaccinated person is 10 days, so if you passed 10 days and even if you still have some symptoms except for fever you should be good to go. 10 days and 24 hours of no fever without the use of Tylenol means you are clear. However if you are not vaccinated it goes up to 14 days. The chances of you having an active infection after 10 days are slim at best and pretty much non existent at 14.

      It's possible but unlikely: The currently authorized antigen tests have been shown to correctly identify 98% to 100% of negative samples, as we discuss in our article about this at www.consumerlab.com/answers/how-and-where-to-get-tested-for-covid-19/covid-19-tests/

      As someone who gets pcr tested every week for the last 14 months along with these I can guarantee you that's a load of shit, haven't seen a single one contradicted by pcr out of thousands. They are 90- 95 % accurate among symptomatic people and iv seen several accurately show positive with unsympathetic people which are later confirmed by pcr. That's a grand total of 0 show someone as negative who was later confirmed to be positive by pcr. Though iv seen several instances of people who were exposed to covid and show symptoms of covid test negative multiple times by pcr and rapid tests while they obviously have covid but this is rare.
