Love this… Thank you for highlighting towns outside of Raleigh. I live near Wendell and it’s an amazing town for families and people who like an active lifestyle.
Wendell is a great small town but like you mentioned its growing. Unfortunately, the infrastructure is not growing. Traffic has become a huge issue (Wendell Falls Pkwy and Eagle Rock Rd. intersection you'll sit for 15mins for the light). and there are no new schools to support the growth. The public elementary school, Lake Mrya, which Wendell Falls is zoned for is at capacity leaving one charter school as a direct local option. Wendell Falls offers a lot of great amenities but also consider there is 1 pool for 3,500 homes. Say there is a family of 3 per home (this is just an estimate) that's over 10k people trying to use the pool. Wendell is a great small town but its losing its charm due to the growth.
Presently Wendell Falls is packed. All your big stores, eateries and traffic. Head further out to Wendell. That’s where you’re getting your small town feel. The downtown is so unique. You pull up to the curb and you feel like you’re back in the 1950s.
The pronunciation actually doesn't matter too much because everyone says it differently. Everyone that I know that has lived there basically their whole lives called it how you pronounce the last name of the poet. 😂 (Also I can't forget the time I was hanging out with my cousin at a picnic table at night in downtown Wendell and we saw a man in a wheelchair chasing down a woman that was uh.. Carrying his clothes. She hopped in an Uber and got away and my cousin and I had to give him a jacket a roll him back home. Crazy stuff happens here.😂)
It missed out the most important fact: School system currently is below average. This is a development made with the expectations that the pandemia real estate boom would continue on. This is just not the case. It is a nice development indeed, but at the moment it’s just overpriced homes with a possible promising future.

Yes, traffic will continue to get worse like it has with other triangle cities as they grow.

My nephew and his wife built a house in Wendell. Due to the pandemic, etc I haven't visited yet. I look forward to exploring it.

Never go to the AGAVE Mexican restaurant.. I've gone 4 times, Got completely different things every time and ALWAYS got food poisoning. 😅👌🏼
Drive times are not correct when you account for the traffic caused by this massive residential growth without the needed infrastructure growth
Drive times are based on where it is now. Any growing city has traffic issues, Wendell isn’t nearly as bad as some of the other cities in the area
