Jeffrey Bush Ah, good point, I didn’t show it in the video but I turned it on just after I mentioned it in the video. So at 2:10 or so. You just have to have it powered on before you launch the software to flash it so that the computer recognizes the device.
File Transfer Protocol thank you! Then, do you need to have the module fully built at this point? I’ve seen some vague instructions not to finish build before flashing- don’t know why.
Jeffrey Bush Mine was finished at this point and I usually don’t flash until done, but I suppose you might flash it before finishing to eliminate shorts and such if it’s not working. A simpler circuit is easier to track down problems with. The other reason might be to make it easier to replace the chip if you got a bad one, but I tend to finish, check for shorts, heck my work over and over again and then flash it.
Thanks for your sharing. After 3 years, your video is still very valuable for reference. Regarding bootloader, will it go with firmware download? or, I should download bootloader firstly, and then firmware for a new DIYed mutable module?
Sorry for the delay. It’s been a long time since I’ve done it, but if I remember correctly, the .hex file did the bootloader as well as firmware for me. But I was also using it from jakplug (maker of m-brane) module that I needed to flash. I hope that helps.
@@FileTransferProtocol it definitely wasn't the connector, I replaced the crystal and some capacitors but I now realise the problem might've actually been from powering it on after the cable was connected rather than before. In any case, it works and I was able to flash the chip, cheers for the help!
Awesome!! Got the westlicht's performer up and running! Thanks a lot for the video
Thanks for the quick tutorial. I'm a lot less worried about it now.
worked great! On Rings, and Marbles! Thanks. Took a few minuets to get my file preferences set to save .txt files as .hex . But all good now

Thanks for this, but when does the “important” powering on of the module occur?

what settings are you using in st-link utility? I'm trying to flash a yarns but I can't seem to get it to connect
Default settings. Did you try flipping the cable as mentioned in the video?
