I think you could run a ridge line and eliminate the poles by snapping it in between the double rows of snaps at the top and use prussicks and toggles to tension the top by using the loops on the ends of the top. Then throw the bug net over top

Yes you can totally set up the tent that way but the bugnet will not work OVER a ridgeline as it has no opening on the ends...

    Good information..
The music is in competition with your voice.

Nice, good to know that the 6x8 will fit 👍. I was going to do a similar project but I was going to add velcro on the tarp and inside the half shelter to make a complete enclosure. Thanks

Yep I had them for over twenty years sometimes I carried both sides especially after I made SSG . Serious though if you don’t want to carry a ground sheet a bug net and both sides of the tent look for a French F 2 tent nylon and bug net included…should be able to find them new unissued around 50 bucks and with everything about the same size and maybe six pounds. You will have a lot more space in your pack too. Love your videos reminds me of my time in way back I’ve been retired twenty years too. Still like a camp out and canteen meal. Have fun stay safe.

I do the same, but use a green canvas tarp I found at Harbor Freight for about $20. The pup is my go to for dump camping, can’t beat the durability. I’ve had too many nice tents become useless because a delicate aluminum pole snapped.

That a cheap and easy hack for the pup tent, well done!
As far as the heat, you seem to be up at the a$$ crack of dawn most days, so go out then 😂

I was taught to be very careful not to over extend your tarp foot print past your tent because of rain. Water would get under the tent if you did not roll the tarp to divert the water. It was better have the tarp undersized than oversized. It looks like your tarp will bring water inside your tent when it rains. I would rolled the edge of the tarp to the inside of your poles to prevent this.

I agree. The ends are sticking out only because I do not have the ends of the tent staked out. If I do that the only thing exposed would be a small triangle of tarp that I can easily fold under
