Hi mate i manufacture a similar ground anchor. I have had a little to do with the pulpal anchors and within Australia mine was established earlier than the pulpal. On a seperate note you were not really using the anchor correctly, you need to think about where you want to pull the vehicle to before deploying the anchor. At least 2 to 3 times the length of the vehicle past the final stopping point of winching must be left so the winch rope angle isnt compromised and the damage of the anchor is reduced. This was part of your difficulty and also the ground was very hard , thats not really the fault of the anchor just the limitation on the terrain it can be used. These anchors are really just for soft earth , sand, mud and snow. But this design of anchor is the best one on the market all the others are rubbish ive had them all many years ago and this is what led me to design this type of anchor before the pulpal. Cheers Stuart

      Hi Stuart,
Yes you are right, but in the end I have worked it out, you really need to put the anchor as far from the car as possible. I have just came back from Simpson desert crossing (off the beaten track and Madigan), and the pull pal saved my bacon more then once.

When the anchor go stuck (4x4 moves a bit) jump in and drive by with wheels and winch because this the anchor need less stucking force.I build my own Pull Pall three size smaller for my Samurai and it works well.

I imagine any situation where the cable hits the ground, as cresting a hill, would be difficult.

It would be handy if you got yourself into strife , when you do find yourself up shit creek without a paddle , any device that gets you out of trouble even if it takes you 3 or 4 tries to get it working right is a welcome bit of kit .
Spending 6 hours on your own digging , winching , jacking , and burying your spare as a last resort is just no fun at all :).

Yes, it did save my bacon, when I did my expedition across the Simpson desert (in mud of all things), without it I would be pretty much stuffed. (you can see th pretty good video from this trio it on my channel), and it did save me again, last year, during my expedition along the southern coast of Australia (I have not got to that yet on my facebook page) when I got stuck on a beach with no help in sight. I would not leave home without it now, on solo expeditions into remote places.

Would of been fine off the start if used in conjuction with the vehicles 4x4. Instead of only poorly using the anchor.

This was only first test to see what the anchor can actually do. I could drive out of there without the pullpal if I wanted to. The first real test came in the Simpson desert, when I pulled myself through about 50 m of mud. Have a look at the Expedition Red Center video.

Go to a good Marine store and get a aluminum sand anchor! Much better then that monster

I am not sure if it would do the job, it is not only sand it has to work in, but then you might be right, it would definitely be much lighter :-)
