www.drillingma... - We use a rubber wiper plug to separate the cement slurry from other fluids, reducing contamination and maintaining predictable slurry performance. Two types of wiper plugs are the top and bottom plugs.
The top wiper plug has a solid body that provides a positive indication of contact with the landing collar and bottom plug through increased pump pressure.
The bottom wiper plug is dropped before pumping cement to minimize contamination by fluids inside the casing. With pressure assistance, a diaphragm in the plug body ruptures to allow the cement to pass through after the plug reaches the landing collar.
