@@MienpraKhmertomtom You never need to do that in FFII, it's actually ineffective this trick is just good to increase Stamina and HP, but these are not important stat and having to much HP is even a nuisance toward the end where ennemies have attacks that scales of your max HP, the queen stat of FFII is Evasion who actually do a far better job at reducing damage than defense, and for some reason Evasion dictates who act first during a turn, and to increase Evasion you need ennemies to target you, keep this stat up all time and you're pretty much invincible in this game.
You're an absolute madlad for subjecting yourself to this, but I'm all for it. Also, the FF series really loves to use the "boss burns down towns" trope.
I love this game so much... Maria: "Hey Firion, how are we going to get strong enough to defeat the Emperor? Are we going to slaughter scores of demons in some remote dungeon for training?" Firion: "Nah, let's take a walk outside Altair and beat the shit out of each other for hours while a goblin watches. Also, we should probably be naked. Oh and constantly rain fire down on us during the whole session." Maria: "I think we should see other people."
Before I even watch this: Yes you can, I have done it. Turning everyone into uber mages is hilariously broken if you are patient enough. Also tossing in some bare knuckle shenanigans makes it even better because then you can essentially make a team of Fairy Tail dragon/godslayers
It hurt my soul to see you put so much armor on them because it actually lowers their magic damage considerably. If you make them just have mage armor then their damage will sky rocket. Makes the challenge a bit easier because you can one rotation most enemies
@@locke103 true, they removed these penalties in future releases (from GBA onwards, correct me if im wrong) but what armor actually DOES is reducing your evasion significantly (also the chance of increasing evasion is diminished you basically will not increase evasion ever) when i play ff2, first thing i do is remove armor, helmets and others to get high evasion, and if you wanna crank up the evasion some more put in your left and right hand shields, also always get better shields since the better the shield, the higher your evasion increases (your evasion also increases whenever your weapon level goes up characters probably learn how to parry with their weapons which could be the reason for that.)
Pixel remaster makes this more difficult by dual shielders having a melee attack each round. It boosts more stats, which is nice, but you can’t abuse the full shielding attack rounds any more. The other rebalancing has been quite nice. I turned off HP boosting, and am playing it straight through. I accidentally did the ocean cave way too early, but I’m about to go back to Altair to begin the fake Hilda arc.
@@randydapurpleboy They actually reintroduce the Magic penalties for protections in Pixel Remaster. Actually IIRC only Shield LVUP increase Evasion when wearing a Shield, other weapon LVUP increase Accuracy and number of hits when wielding their corresponding weapon.

You don't even need that much if the optional dungeon is there to get the character unique weapons... or can do the matching minigame after getting toad to lv16
I actually like this game- it's a shame it gets the amount of hate it does. I have liked all the FF games (yes, 8 and 13 as well). This is an interesting challenge to tackle in this game!
FF8 is the only final fantasy I loathe playing, but thats due to my ineptitude as a child getting to disc 4 at level 100 wondering why the game just keeps getting harder, was the max level higher or was I undergeared? Nope turns out im a dumbass and made the game unwinnable and because im so stubborn I refuse to play the game again from the start to fix my mistake ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 2 isn't bad once you get the ball rolling, it takes a bit to get there though and not a lot of people have that kind of patience.
I find it funny how everybody always talks about how final fantasy 2 is one of the worst games and yet I'm finishing it up right now and it's one of the favorite games that I've ever played I think. I realize that the original version may be not quite as polished and accessible as the pixel remaster but the pixel remaster version that I'm playing is a great game and I am very much enjoyed it
I enjoyed this game. I liked that every battle mattered because of the way you got stronger. What you did during a fight actually mattered. Very different very 😎
The thing with pixel remaster ff games is they are more for nostalgia purposes, not quite for challenges for general playthrough. This is the only problem i have about pixel remastered FFs. Good to know that people think out side the box lol. Good vid.
Well they actually added possibility to turn off EXP and Gils, meaning you can challenge yourself by finishing them at even Lower Level that was previously possible, which is actually pretty fun challenge to do even tough some are more brutal than the others.
If you're patient enough, you can get ultima to do over 9000 damage. And no, I'm not saying that cause of the meme. This game is so hilariously easy to overgrind in. I knew this wouldn't be that much of a challenge unless you intentionally keep stats low. Even a SINGLE character can do this run easily if you're grinding enough.
FF2 would've surpassed FF originals had square released it in the US. I'm just thinking about my 10 year old self. The modern gripes would not have existed, and we would have thought the system was the "best" rpg system. I did a double equip of shield, fought the commanders, then spammed attack 100 times, swapped the shields out for weapons, to power level weapons so they could be 16 at the start of the game
@@ZeusTheIrritable With the way the leveling formula works its for weapons is (Current battle rating - current weapon rating) + 10 + actions in combat (cap 100) The max xp needed for weapon level is 100 so this guarantees a level up since the commander is a 5 combat rating that doesn't run away
I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos, always nice to watch ff challenge runs. I've been playing them for 30 years, and never have I become bored with them. Excellent
FF2 has many flaws, but i still like it. You made yourself a real Challenge there. Every weapons exept staff and knife, every shield and every heavy armor lowers your magic. Attack and healing. This effect stacks, so the more you have equipped from the above, the weaker you'll get.
It's probably faster to solo the game since menuing just Firion over to Teleport away all foes in one action is way faster than menuing four characters all game.
I think at this point he's doing it on purpose as he's got a lengthy RUclips career of mispronunciations and malapropisms. Once you get used to it it's quite charming.
@Primalliquid idk if you ever knew, but there is a hidden mechanic for magic damge that is based off what your armor weight. I learned this from another youtuber HCBailly, he has done alot of research for finding out all the mechanics of the game and the heavier your equipment is the less magic damage you do. I cant remember if its magic accuracy or actual base damage. If you need more information on it, i highly looking at HCBailly's FF2 videos to get some information on that.
A lot of earlier FF games used early D&D elements. As in, consider what armor does. It protects you, yes. But it weighs you down. Magic requires focus, maybe specific hand movements. If armor hinders their ability to utilize magic, of course potency will drop faster than the soap in a federal prison. Imagine a Cure10 targeting your whole party, and everyone only recovers 30-ish HP per cast. That's the system at work. That's the "design flaw" that adds a bit of logic to how fantasy elements COULD work.

Thing is there's a lot of buffs to increase Physical damage most noticeably Haste and Berserk, Berserk in particular stacks infinitly until maxing out the stat, you only need these 2 buffs not even at a very high LV to deal thousands of damage with physical, whereas magic doesn't have any similar buffs, so you need to put more work to reach what physical can do.
I love FF 2 because it's the first of the "junction" FF games (FF2, 6, 7, and 8) and was so ahead of its time. With a proper leveling system for the characters, or at least a less bad one, it would be even better. I did a no grind challenge once, basically had to plan out every step and take the shortest distance between two points. It was 1.5 hells.

Isnt early magic only hard on gold? I think that with no x4 gold drop you would run out of money on healing mp compere to gold got from monster. Or did they incrise gold drop on pixle remaster
if you needed a boost doesnt double shields in the backrow give you basically max evasion and take less damage? also if you need an hp and mp boost theres a hp/mp switch spell that will get you an hp boost every fight. but since you are not grinding and just running through the game it could always be easier.
