      I am so glad that you guys were exploring at that amazing old children’s clothing factory. Just like a museum frozen in time. I just love your video very interesting. I think those 3 beautiful kittens were either abandon by their Mom or got killed by a car. Anyway those precious 3 kittens left a week longer would have died of starvation. But I am very grateful and happy your friends came back and saved those kittens life’s and also found good and loving homes for the 3 kittens. You and friends are amazing and kind hearted guys! God bless you and your friends.

    Those sewing and cutting machines really aren't outdated. Manufacturing clothes hasn't changed much over the years, it's just been sent to countries that do it much cheaper. Any of those sewing machines could be cleaned and oiled and put right back to work.

    Most of these places make me think “wow, what a waste” but this one hits so much harder… the machines and threads would be 100% usable today if they hadn’t decayed. Potential to make so much clothing… Even squatters could’ve made their own clothes in this building. It’s sad seeing food, homes and toys, lost, feels worse seeing timeless resources go unused.

    • @eily_b
      @eily_b Год назад +1

      The threads wouldn't be usable after 40 years. They get brittle over time and would rip. They should have sold/auctioned it off/given all the the threads and fabric away when it closed down.

    I really appreciate that you and the other urbex RUclipsrs are capturing these pieces of history before they’re permanently erased. This building clearly doesn’t have much time left, and it couldn’t just ended up another pile of debris with most people having no idea what it once was.. but with videos like this, everyone gets to learn and appreciate another piece of nearly forgotten manufacturing history of the US.
    Also, it’s possible that someone who worked here may stumble across this video someday, having not seen the inside of this building in 40 years.

    Those long flat machines were pressers/irons. The hoses connected to them carried water to make steam to steam iron the clothing. The second machine was a button hole maker and those vintage "Union Special" power sewing machines are worth some money. Up to $4-5 thousand each!
    The stuff you kept calling "twine" is just thread. And the kittens were in a buggy full of rolls/spools of elastic band.

    I never ever use this term, but what an absolute Treat it was to be taken a long for this excellent explore! Of course I was dying over all of the industrial stools and all of the machine era work gear still being utilized from open to close without need to replace anything. I worked on the dock at the Minneapolis Star Tribune and that location that opened in 1983 when the original 1900 building was sold to developers. The desk that the Load Leads used to keep paperwork on was obviously new to the plant when it opened. Totally 80's style and dinged to shit with the entire flimsy side panel missing, likely from a loaded cart full of newspaper bundles hitting it just once. All those old tanker desks made out of steel were in fine working order in the footage you showed, just dusty and paint chipped. The Tribune kept all of the long tables and other various carts in the news production room, and I spent my first month hunting down as much history as I could find because it was surreal working at a plant that was already dead on its feet. We printed the St.Paul Pioneer Press, FFS!! That would be like the Bears practicing in Lambeau Field. Anyway, with how the yuppies have eaten up the whole industrial chic BS, you'd think that places like this would have been wiped out by now. Gross places like Restoration Hardware charge $400 for the backed stools you could see all over that awesome factory. It's apparent that woman ran the offices in that place, because I can't see too many men putting up Teen Beat posters of Rick Springfield (of Jesse's Girl songwriting fame) and Tom Selleck during his Magnum PI prime!! Flipping Awesome! Hang Ten was a Massive brand in the 80's. I'm surprised to see they had a small division there. We really Do need to bring back industry to this country. Not only are we supporting child and slave wage labor, we're openly ignoring the fact while doing so. It would be one thing if we all used AliExpress and bought directly from the slave drivers, but no-we don't trust the quality of foreigners like that so instead we idiotically pay Jeff Besos at Amazon and pay middleman for the exact same product from the same factories, but the slaves working at the warehouses are Americans. We take the "As long as it's not me." attitude about that. Americans like to work with their hands and have a tangible sense of accomplishment after a day's work and computer jobs don't give that to anyone but the CEO's taking in the lion's share of the profits.
    This was hands down the best, most satisfying video I've seen on RUclips in over a year. Thank you for providing such great content. It's your appreciation for the best aspects of each explore that lines up so well with what I look for that keeps me coming back. Even if you Do keep calling thread 'fabrics'. 🤣 And thank you for being logical about those kittens! I was hoping you'd leave them for their mother because they were obviously healthy but something could have happened to her and I'm so glad there was follow up and the necessary rescue in the end. An all around *perfect* video!

    Fascinating on a personal level - in 1986 I got my first job working in retail for a fabric store whose headquarters were based in Pennsylvania - in 1993 they closed a bunch of stores located on the east coast of the nation. Hard to believe that garment factories still existed in the USA back then. Seeing all those industrial-sized spools of thread made just for those sewing machines brings back memories. I am surprised the factory equipment was not auctioned off? Some of those sewing machines command high prices today. Thanks for the memories!

The mama had left and the electronics department head came over and took all the kittens away. Oh My Goodness!!! WHAT AN AMAZING FIND! Kinda made me Sad 😭 .... How American is such a throw away society!!! My children were just babies in the 80's... I was always checking for 2 and. Hand clothes.... Similar to the clothes in this factory.... What a great explore!😳😥❣️ Keep up the great work ❣️

    So many people walk past this place every day - I wonder how many of them are aware that there are so many important remains within the walls of this dilapidated building, that the history of this building in general is so important and, in a way, ground-breaking, in terms of local industry and the consequences of its decline... or do they just pass by the building indifferently, unaware of anything.

    It's sad how factories like this have closed down and moved to other countries. City I live in used to have so many factories and now most are empty buildings or have been torn down and are empty lots. Most (myself included) have had to go out of town to find factory work or anything with good pay. Most of the jobs in my town are now fast food, gas stations, auto parts stores, etc. Nothing wrong in those jobs but they don't offer much in the way of pay/benefits sadly.
