One of the greatest Candlepin matches of all time. A duel between 2 hall of famers. And the walk off turkey is the best ending of all time. Tommy wasn’t gonna be denied.
back in 1967 or so, I worked at a bowling alley in Hillsborough NH. The owner was a steady 120 bowler and had one of the smoothest deliveries I've ever seen. His backswing took the ball to 12:00, and his release left no bounce. The ball usually generated not only exceptional speed, but 'action' when it hit pins. I can't remember his last name! His first was Al. I know he'd entered at least one or two roll offs for the show.
Its funny you say that, my dad had an arm, he could prob throw a baseball high 80s ...He also was on like 3 bowling leagues a week at his peak. He generated so much torque on the ball that if he hit the pocket he had a ton of action...His average has fluctuated from anywhere to 112 to 127 through 45 years of bowling so there is something to be said for good power
Great stuff! I went to high school with Chuckie Jutras, Charlie’s son. We’re both the same age as Tommy Olszta who might be the greatest candlepin bowler of all-time. Chuckie, like his dad, was a heck of a bowler too. I love watching these shows hosted by Don Gillis, the voice of candlepin bowling.
I think Tom is prob the best candlepin bowler I have ever seen. I mean Paul Berger is too but Paul never had that killer instinct that Tom had...that clutch gene. Yes Tom never beat Paul head-to-head but Jordan never beat Bird either..As much as I would like to, I cant put Bird over Jordan
i've league bowled for over 40 years and at 70 years old i had my very first 3 strikes in a row and by chance it came in the 10th box of a string. it was like a dream come true for me but i only got a 136 out of it.
I just started watching Candlepin bowling and I can't stop. Hubby's going nuts. This match was awesome. What a cool style of bowling. I grew up in Maryland around Duck Pin and now live in FL retired. I bowl 10 pin in a league. I wish I could try Candlepin.
Thank you for this !! The most amazing match in all of bowling. Look how happy Tom is and the fact that Craig was just as happy for him is fantastic. I do not know how this showed up in my RUclips feed but I am so glad it did. Look at the 8th Frame , I thought it was over for Tom But no ! Only way this could have been better if if both of them knocked down those three pins in that bonus contest at the end and it was close !!
WOW incredible Tom won all 3 strings by the narrowest margin, how does he do that? 849 must be one the highest combined totals, and Tom rolled a 30 box in the 30th box, unbelievable!
Growing up in candlepin bowling alleys, going to tournaments all over New England with my parents I can say if I had a dollar for every time I heard the phrase "get ovah" I could retire right now at 45
Nope! I don't know duckpin specs, but candlepin balls are made from different materials depending on what you like (rubber, urethane ect.), other than that all balls are the same weight (2 lbs., 7 ounces) and size (4 1/2" in diameter).
I have never candle pin bowled before, but after binge watching a bunch of it, it kinda seems like they throw the ball way too hard. I really feel like they would get more strikes if they put less mustard and more English on the ball. I literally know nothing about this sport. Is it a sport? Ima call it a sport.
Probably the best match I've seen. What a finish! Thanks for sharing.
Another classic with the legend Tommy Olszta. Thanks for the upload as usual.

wow, quite the match and even the 1-7-10 hi-lo jack at the end was exciting.

Ill take Paul Berger. Since Paul owned Tom head to head

Greatest match/comeback from the pressure Holbrook put on Olzsta. This should be on broadcast across the world
This game should be played across the world
Wow. What a great match
Extraordinarily classic show watched in amazement by an almost 7-year old in his summer home in Harwich (me).
Thanks for uploading something which I miss so much.

Awesome, thats amazing Goord job
I have never enjoyed watching PBA as much as I enjoyed this match up!
First and third strings, and obviously the finish, were incredible. That 2nd string was grotesque....

It was unbelievable.I bet Tommy made close to $ 50 grand from Channel 5
it was an unreal match, it was always hard to beat tom olszta.
The Tommy triple strike win AND the high low jack battle at the end wow
Man this brings back Saturday morning memories.... I'm getting old 😂😂
Finally there's full footage of that classic match which is among the classics of Candlepins. Tom Olszta had his best match that was entertaining.
This was my favorite match of all time.
Great! Thanks for sharing
Love the sportsmanship between these bowers. Class acts all the way around.
I remember watching this at 6 years old. I'll never forget this one.
Wow what a match. 2 of the greatest !!!
what a finish
it was always an uphill battle against olszta even before the match started, that's how good he was, goat.
Holy cow what a finish
Thanks for the post 7-10-22
Love the old rolling TV.
Why do the bowlers change the lane rotation from alternate lanes to two frames on the same lane, after the first game?????
WOW incredible Tom won all 3 strings by the narrowest margin, how does he do that?
849 must be one the highest combined totals, and Tom rolled a 30 box in the 30th box, unbelievable!
you're right about the greatest match ever!!!
42:34 --- the thrill of victory. Fantastic!
Incredible finish! Tommy is da’ Man! 😉

Does anyone have the match from the previous week in which Olszta rolls 4 strikes in a row? Would love to see that one!!
It should be somewhere on RUclips. His match against Charlie Jutras.
Check Alleychat.

TOM OLSZTA WINS $1,000 TRIPLE STRIKE 41:14 41:34 41:38 41:59 42:02
TOM OLSZTA WINS $1,000 TRIPLE STRIKE 41:14 41:34 41:38 41:59 42:02
Always remember that Tom Olszta spelled backwards is atzslO moT.
What a match!
what a dramatic finish...unreal. tom was never out of it.
Wow what a game. Sucks they both came so close to winning the Hi Lo Jackpot. Tom Olzsta and Craig Holbrook 2 great bowlers.
I wouldn't mind a 111 or 112. I'm getting scores in the 70's and 80's. Haven't bowled since the early 2000's. It's still as hard as I remember.
The rugs in the new store there are still sliding all over place there was so much silicone on those plates!
these guys both have a nice freewheeling style which is what i always tried to do just not as good at it especially now that i'm old.
I wonder what Ralph Stewart is up to nowadays. The man got a lot of applause over the years.
The announcer cracks me up!So serious. 😂
I miss bowling.
One of the bowlers there reminds me of Mark Roth (a legendary tenpin bowler (may he r.i.p.)).
A 136 AVERAGE in candlepins is unbelievable.
Do candlepin and duck pin bowlers have their own ball with certain specs like in tenpin?
Nope! I don't know duckpin specs, but candlepin balls are made from different materials depending on what you like (rubber, urethane ect.), other than that all balls are the same weight (2 lbs., 7 ounces) and size (4 1/2" in diameter).
Duckpin balls are usually between 4 3/4" and 5" and typically weigh between 3 lbs 6oz and 3 lbs 12 oz
Not all candlepin balls weigh 2.7 they range from 2.5 to 2.7 most lanes try to maintain 2.6
$700 to the winner? Nowadays that will fill the gas tank up (lol).
Tom is a beast
tom olszta bowled against jack saniuk on bigshot bowling
42:06 Don Gillis: "Three consecutive strikes! He won again!
the 136 average was always unreal.
They should set the pins on fire
Do they ever let that guy with the gray beard and black-rimmed glasses play?
You can't tell me Tom Olszta isn't Paul Rudd.....
Feels like Tom got in his own head in the second string.
Tom Olszta's son of the same name just passed away.
So sad to hear this.
Jesus H what a clinic
Candlepin bowling, where the laws of cause and effect do not exist.
Wolfman do you still have your homemade wheel of fortune?
I have never candle pin bowled before, but after binge watching a bunch of it, it kinda seems like they throw the ball way too hard. I really feel like they would get more strikes if they put less mustard and more English on the ball. I literally know nothing about this sport. Is it a sport? Ima call it a sport.
You should try it. It’s a blast.
Great reception...tin foil and duct tape on the rabbit ears?
Seriously think this is a weak sport compared to traditional bowling
How tall are candle pin bowling pins? Everything I search up always refers to the standard pin size of 15"
