Wow, I’m Burmese and hearing this story from JC is such a profound experience.
Sukhavti is definitely my favorite Joseph Campbell piece.
The ritual of the Priestess kissing the cobra is incredible. And it can be found by searching for the film’s name “Kingdom of Burma” and “priestess kisses the snake god”.
In the Minoan culture, the bull was never killed. Dancers jumped over the horns of the sacred bull instead - however the basic analogy is true to form.

Why are all the comments about Joseph? He would want you to instead focus on what he's saying and not on him. The conversation should be about what he's talking about, even if you don't understand it. Just like the herd, fixated on the light bearer rather than the light.
Disjointed, hacked up, out of context bits and pieces of Campbell"s message?
The world needs, for example, the full Moyer / Campbell interviews uncut, But this foumdation is instead hacking Campbell's core messages up into tiny little disjointed hacked up bits and pieces. They are doing that as teasers to commercially monetize Campbel's work.
The very nature of Campell's works must remain freely available, intact, in context, and sui- generis on a "giving foot forward" monetization model, which primarily is not the JC Foundation monetization model.
Does this greedy foundation have copyrights on these works?
Why can't anyone post these works up on IE. You Tube etc. free uncut unedited? For instance the full uncut Campbel / Moyers series.
Why is Moyer not acting to counter this outrage?
How to obtain these works intact & unedited now like when Campbell was alive without profiteering? That would be Campbell's will.
The Campbell Foundation, in the guise of proliferating Campbell's body of work, is instead fragmenting it for commercial monetary motives.
So aggravating!
Seriously any effort to keep Campbell's work free, and free of being hacked up, and free of being exploited by the world system, then count us in.

@peacechild61 Yes. He comments on it in "Occidental Mythology," which is the third of four volumes in his "Masks of God" series. The man has a considerable body of work on which I have only started, so this is the only example I can provide, though I imagine he probably describes it in greater depth elsewhere. I will not deprive you of the utter joy of reading him to learn his interpretation, but he generally doesn't have many positive things to say about monotheism.

NO, the bull represents the constellation Capricornus, and later Taurus, from where the Taurid meteor stream radiated. Snakes symbolise comets and meteors. See Gobekli Tepe.

You're referring to the literal and material aspect of these things. Campbell is referring to human psychology and human behavior and what lies underneath it all. The exoteric is so predictable and boring, look to the esoteric aspect of everything.

Snakes represent multiple things.. in some pieces of art, it represents the ecliptic of the sun...in others, it represents the animal mind, etc...it's not just one thing

Killing of the bull as a ritual has much older historical roots. At some point it may have been mixed up with what you propose. Read Campbell his Masks of God. And yes there can be more explanations, symbols rarely carry one explanation inside of them.
