25 /7/ 2021 Statement from Satakunta Osprey project about Ossi & Alma's two relocated chicks: Many have asked about the two babies of Ossi and Alma moved to the second nest as a result of the unfortunate events on Midsummer Eve. The chicks were ringed and investigated during the move. The inspector of the nest visited the scene and found that one of the chicks had passed away. It was surprising that the deceased baby was the one who survived the raven attack with seemingly minor injuries. The cause of death of the baby was no longer able to be concluded at that point. The relocated chick has a yellow ring SRS, which was added during the relocation. On Thursday 22.7 SRS was photographed in flight near the nest, so this story seems to have a happy ending. Midsummer's Eve events showed once again that anything can happen at the nests approach something you can't possibly prepare for. Hopefully Ossi will find a good partner for next year. A good sign is that Ossi has not abandoned his nest place due to setbacks, but has lived there in the last few days. And best of all, we've also seen females with Ossi on the nest. Next spring we'll see how the story continues in Ossi's nesting swamp. The presence of ravens at Ossi's nesting swamp has also sparked discussion. However, they have been living in the same areas for a long time and they haven't been more harmful to the weather. The weathers have been nesting in that nest continuously since 2005; the first failure came only the other year as a result of a visit tby a goshawk and the second setback this year because of the raven. saaksilive.fi/.../tietoa-alman-ja-ossin-poikasista/

This is the dad Ossi bringing fish for his two surviving chicks. After his mate Alma was injured by the raven, it returned and killed one of the chicks leaving Alma unable to fly and she was taken by the fox.
If you read the description, you'll see that the nest is in a remote location with a nest cam streaming live, from which this clip was taken. There is no person nearby holding a camera making a recording. Also, please keep in mind it is illegal to disturb birds during the nesting season so if someone by chance happened to be nearby, it would be a criminal act to intervene. Nature is harsh! Even if they could help, Alma fell km away from the nest, no way somebody sitting near the nest, could have run over to the fox to protect Alma. The Osprey project managers made the decision to remove the surviving chicks after the attack which killed their mum, and relocated them to another nest to be fostered by the resident pair of Ospreys. This was done because it’s not possible for one parent alone to protect and provide food for chicks. After the chicks were relocated, the surviving male parent Ossi returned to this nest a few times before leaving on migration. It’s hoped he will return as usual in the spring and raise a new family with a new mate.
They were still a little young to be self-feeding, you can see them having difficulties getting into the fish. Sadly after the two surviving chicks were moved to a foster nest with an adult to look after them, one chick died. But the last chick made it to be ringed (Darvic ring: yellow SRS) and fledged, and we hope we might see him return to the area as an adult, he is three years old this year.
That raven would have come back. By removing the chicks, whether or not you agree with intervention, both Ossi and the two surviving chicks get a second chance.
@@sylviakovessy Sadly that's how nature works. I'm not usually for intervention, but as I've followed this family for a while, I'm happy to hear the chicks are getting a second chance.
Ravens are big, powerful and smart. It's thought Alma may have been injured flying into a tree in the battle, and thus unable to fly, forced to the ground where the raven was able to overcome her. She fought valiantly, the fight was a good 15 minutes long before the raven felt sufficiently safe from her to return to the nest for the chicks. The actual cause of the chick's death has not been revealed.
Not usually dad’s job to do the feeding, just the providing. Louis at Loch Arkaig is quite unusual because he likes to help incubate the eggs and sometimes feeds the chicks as well. I’ve got lovely footage of him feeding the littlest chick and Aila feeding the older two.

Ossi continus to return to the nest, I hope he will pair with a new mate and raise chicks again here next year.
Yes it does feel like they need to be moved now
That raven would have come back. By removing the chicks, whether or not you agree with intervention, both Ossi and the two surviving chicks get a second chance.
@@GeemeffGeemeff thank you. I definitely agree with intervention. I’m just traumatized by this ! Poor mom.
@@sylviakovessy Sadly that's how nature works. I'm not usually for intervention, but as I've followed this family for a while, I'm happy to hear the chicks are getting a second chance.
Heartbreaking
Yes, a tragedy for Ossi's family and all the nest cam watchers too.
Was this after the possesed raven wrecked havoc?
Yes, clue's in the title, details in the description.
It's a pity that it has grown so much😓😓😓😓😓😓残念
That’s very sad 😔 a way of life
WATCHED THE ATTACK AND FINALLY GOT OVER IT THEN SAW THIS SO RENEWED DREAD OF IT LOOKS LIKE ONLY ONE IS GOOD OTHER IS PRETTY BAD OFF
Everyone thought the Crow lured the Osprey into the woods and the fox had eaten it…wow
It did...the female is dead...its the male that came to nest
@@shivamplays8598 wow
5:04 what a cannon
Show that the injuried chick is still ok to pass motion lol.
The balance of nature.
Hay lắm
Bloody hell Dad, where were you!!!!
That crow wouldn’t of stood a chance against this bird

Dang how was a raven able to get chased by the mother and win that battle… did he break the neck of the first chick
@@GeemeffGeemeff It's a Raven so it probably pecked open the skull to get the brain.
@@Ushio01 Perhaps you might want to watch the video or read the description before commenting.
That second chick that got attack it was badly beaten by the raven around the head and face but somehow recover fast
I wonder how severe that chick's injuries are, the raven had a good go. Fingers crossed for its survival in its new nest.
@@GeemeffGeemeff The chick is still able to shit well, goes to show how tough it is.
omg. Dang ravens. Dad brought a fish but didnt feed it though
Not usually dad’s job to do the feeding, just the providing. Louis at Loch Arkaig is quite unusual because he likes to help incubate the eggs and sometimes feeds the chicks as well. I’ve got lovely footage of him feeding the littlest chick and Aila feeding the older two.
It looked like to me that he delivers the fish, then keeps waiting for mom to come take it. That was heartbreaking 😔
@@JeanBrewer yes heart breaking the whole thing im very sad about it all. Im hope to hear more on how they other 2 are doing
im cry..😭😭
Very sad the Reaven is killing a chick because he wants to reduce rivals in his area, but people kill millions of chicks every day just for money😥😥🥺🥺
Human logic is a bitch. Especially when morals and ethics interfere
Very much the truth. People should visit slaughter houses. Or Finnish fur farms. People are Evil.
The parents are cowards!
💔💧💦💦💦so sad 😢
一羽死んじゃったの?
(question transl: Did one die?)answer: 悲しいことに、はい (tranl: sadly, yes)
Osprey is amazing, crows are evil beings
If you want to see a sweet revenge video check out the one where a Komodo dragon snatches a raven and swallows it.
I thought raven will harm the rest t babies if not they will revenge when they grow
Жалко третьего, ворона похоже голову то ему свернула
Только один цыпленок в конечном итоге выжил
👍🙏
Surullista, mut tätä se on. Karu luonto ja elämä
하나는 뒤진건가;;; 움직임이 없네
Question Google-translated from Korean: Is one behind? no movement
Answer: 뒤에서 움직이지 않는 것은 까마귀에게 죽임을 당한 것이다. (The one at the back not moving is the one killed by the Raven)
yanpa❗
5:03 projectile shit 😝
Hope the babies grow up and hunt that raven down.
That raven was only acting according to nature, it is neither good nor evil, it just is what it is.
@GeemeffGeemeff people hate Ravens and Crows. They are smart birds, I love them. Plus they help clean up our roads of dead animals.
:(
太可憐了
Look like the 1 chick is eating the whole fish n letting the other 1 have any he might start eating his dead little brother if he gets hungry enough
Leaving the nest was a huge mistake, stupid bird
