As someone who's pursuing a career in animal welfare, that line really speaks to me. Laika, I'll make you proud. I'll do my best to make sure that something as terrible as what they did to you will never happen again.

I never even knew about Laika until I heard this song and one day I looked it up on google...soo sad history tells of a poor stray dog taken by the Russians and sent into outer space in a little capsule contraption and she died in there after I think a couple of weeks when the life support systems failed. My understanding is they had no intentions of bringing her home, and as the capsule/rocket contraption (whatever it was) reentered the earths atmosphere it burned up. My interpretation sucks so look it up for a better more accurate story. Also Kill Hannah is one of the BEST.

She was launched on November 3, 1957 and died the same day a few hours after being in space. She died due to the extreme heat in the capsule and the stress she felt.
