I don't think most trumpet players realize how amazingly talented he is. I cannot think of anyone that has his playing with his style. He can blow thru a horn like he has lungs of a hurricane. If you listen enough, players have distinct sounds. Miles, Dizzy, Louis, Clifford, Hargrove, Terry, Hubbard, Wynton and now Sean Jones (that is a very abbreviated list). He is one of the few new school players who has is own sound and blows my mind every time I hear him play. I love the way he plays.
And till this day, his range is that good on something that big, really comes down to technique from my understanding. Most people dont have the patience to build the proper technique to play like that on something so big, a big mouthpiece will not let you take short cuts when it comes to range.
Yo Sean, I'm from Clinton Ok, the Weatherford Ok newspaper put you on the front cover from last years jazz fest . I'm sorry I couldn't attend to see you . But I got you here on youtube. Your awesome dude
Dizzy said "style" is how you get from note to note. Enjoy the frozen chicken fingers and tater tots. Maybe next year you can sit at the grownups' table!
Scales and chords make up all good music... I guess you’re not noticing all the rhythmic phrases in his lines and tone colors as well as rich bebop vocabulary and interval leaps, which on trumpet are no easy feat. Maybe today’s music with one chord minus the 3rd and scales of 2-3 notes is more your taste Scott
