- Many of you have been asking for Chuck Schuldiner for years. I can see why now. I wasn't until I tried playing his riffs and solos that I can fully appreciate what he did. This album's a masterpiece and I loved trying to learn some of it. The obscure riffs, solos and weird timing makes it pretty difficult. I'll bring more to the channel.

he actually made me buy one, but then I returned it cause I like my jcm800s better. But its definitely a killer amp and huge value for the money
I was gonna get a 6505 mh but after watching just a few of lambchopper's videos I knew I was getting the DSL instead.

Chuck Schuldiner is legendary, so glad I got to see him play live. The Grandfather of Death Metal is very underrated, not many can touch him still.
It’s crazy how much symbolic is not known in the metal community, nvm death metal community, well death in general, but fuck mr symbolic is a masterpiece

1,000 Eyes was always my favorite Death song. That riff and those changes just kick so much ass.

I got the Mxr 10 band eq after watchn this channel , went to put it through my 15 w dsl head and realised there's no effects loop back there 😂 , goes well in my other amps though , great channel
@@jamoman0277 make sure you get a cabinet to plug into before you turn it on! You can damage the amp without the speaker incase you didn't know.

Marshall Valvestate Owner, Collector and lover because of the Death guitar tone here. You are really close to the 8100 sound. Funnily enough a lot of what's seen as chorus is actually the voicing of the those amps. It's insane how good leads on those things sound. Just pure magic. If anyone here wants to get the closest sound to Deaths later guitar tone from his Valvestate or has questions about these amps and their iterations feel free to ask it!

DUDE YES! Symbolic has got to be my favorite album of all time and the guitar work and tone is just absolutely killer!
The solo tone you achieved is unreal. Just like the album, actually sounds cleaner than the album!
Your tones are always on point. You could plug a carrot into a block of cheddar cheese and would still be able to get an epic tone out of it.

I’m amazed at all the different sounds you’ve been able to approximate with the DSL. Death is one of my all time favorite bands. Back in the very late 80’s and early 90’s saw them a bunch of times.
Check out “the sound of perseverance “ if you haven’t heard it yet. It was critically panned when it came out, but its a fantastic album. Favorite song from that album is spirit crusher.

Really thrilled that the web community encouraged you to partake of Death. The sound of perseverance pricked my heart at the age of 15. My love for metal stepped a notch after experiencing chucks discography. Individual thought patterns is a favorite of mine. His band control denied has so great lyrical content & riffs.

@@LambChopper678 ohh man! Cant wait for that video. Love zakks tone in no rest for the wicked and no more tears. I was getting pretty close I thought today with my dsl20hr on channel 2 with a boss sd1 and an mxr234 chorus(same as black label chorus) into a v30/t75 2x12.
Without a Yamaha SPX-90 using the symphonic preset you can only get near the ballpark. That’s pretty much the meat of his early tone. I can’t replicate that but we’ll see how close it can get
@@LambChopper678 his signature chorus is very reminiscent of the chorus ensemble which to me sounds similar to the Yamaha spx90. Setting the rate around 11 ‘o’ clock and the depth a little over half way will get you there
you should check out the sound of perseverance. that record is by far my favourite and the guitar work, especially the solos are magnificent

@@shredaintdead9323 "Best" from the technical/production point, but there isn't a "bad" Death album, just different styles. The earlier Death albums were towards death metal style and the later became more thrash/progressive. Awesome stuff

Hell of a good job here. Individual Thought Patterns was my favorite Death album in the 90s
One awesome solo is the title track the solo for the song "Symbolic" is awesome done by Bobby Koelble a very underrated Guitarist he's like guitar teacher he's so well versed in all the technical stuff

Symbolic is one of just a few albums of my life. Music, tone, recording, voice. I still cannot believe Chuck is not among us.
Every song on this album is masterpiece with unique riffs that are composed with real imagination, not copied from other artists.

Well done dude! Chucks’ tone is hard. Even Ola England couldnt get a good Chuck tone using both the Valvestate and the signature BC Rich. Just goes to show how good Chuck was that he could make shit sound good even with a shitty amp
The valvestate is a great amp, even today. And I don't know what you mean, Ola did get the Sound, he even got it with a Boss Katana Air
Solo tone at the end is out of this world, just like a divine hym from the other side.
Finally something on this amazing band. Chuck is one of the most amazing guitarists of all the time and one of my favorite ones that always inspires me.

Tone sounds spot on, i wasnt watching screen and thought intro was ripped from the album somehow lol because id just been listening to Symbolic doing washing up. Fantastic stuff.

Can’t wait for the Zakk video!!!! I had a Marshall AVT 150 Valvestate way back. It was awesome. But the GAS at some point kicked in and I replaced with a Peavey XXX.
The comparison to old Megadeth tone is spot on . It's the same sound just punched up with more crunch.

You basically made me buy the DSL20 as my first "bigger" amp (used a small combo before).
I got into Death thanks to the Scream Bloody Gore album, I was really into thrash before and that album made me jump onto the Death bandwagon and its my favorite band now.
What can the DSL20 not do?! What a great amp.
Something about those riffs is just so satisfying. Dude i know EXACTLY what you mean about the riff you are talking about how you were blown away. I LOVE THAT RIFF.
I learned quite a few songs off Symbolic, they are so fun to play.
I had one of those Vavlestate amps back in the day and I loved it. To me they were the way to go with a tube preamp and a solid state poweramp.

Great stuff, dude. Slayer was the reason I picked up drumsticks and guitar (my sister's Fender) but it was Chuck who really inspired me to love guitar. My older brother showed me Symbolic back in 98' (I was 15) and it touched my heart and soul. And then I saw that B.C. Rich Stealth in the 'Lack of Comprehension' video and thought it was the raddest looking guitar. It took me 6 years of continuous searching the internet till I found one for sale. It was designed by Rick Derringer and built by Bernie Rico. They only made 175 originals from the B.C. Rich Custom Shop from 83'-84'. I'm very lucky to have it. Took it on tour with me and it got a lot of attention and offers. But yeah, I love all the Death albums. They took me to a new level on drums and guitar. Chuck was a special talent and very warm-hearted human being. I've hung out with his former bandmates (Steve, Gene, Richard, Sean) and they all miss him very much. Check out his documentary Death By Metal.
I forgot to mention Control Denied. Chuck retired Death in 98' and started Control Denied. It was basically a more melodic version of Death but with clean vocals. Rob Halford actually auditioned but the position went to Tim Aymar. Fantastic album. That was Chuck's last work before he passed away.

Chuck and Bobby on this album gelled very well. Definitely the whole " you rule dude, rip whatever leads you can come up with" attitude Chuck had was very much important thing when I was a youngin, learning how to develop my lead guitar - Masvidal before him, laroque before him again, and Hamm after him - intense differences he found great variety from. I love heari g the..live knock it down 10bpm for feels same sometimes haha.
His symbolic solo was fuckin searing.

I had the same experience with death. It was hard to get into their earlier stuff. But Symbolic and Power Of Perseverance are absolute metal masterpieces IMO.

The Sound of Perseverance is a pretty incredible album, too. That and Symbolic are my two favs.
I am more of a powermetal-jmetal guy, and for years I judged Death by their first albums, when I listened to Symbolic it probably became my second fav album of all time. So good. Then I became familiar with the band and enjoy other albums

Great Job! Really glad you decided to do Death tone! I had heard them previously maybe around the Leprosy album and I wasn't really into it but when I heard Human I was blown away! Human is still my favorite Death record but Symbolic is great also. You do a great job and love your playing!

Awesome! I love Symbolic. In the late 90's i played in a Death Metal band for a wille, and we used to play live "Symbolic" and "Crystal Mountain"!
Regarding to the tone, the lead tone sounds to me 100% perfect compared with the album. The rithm is almost there, but i do hear a difference between the DSL and the Valvestate.

DSL20 is the most versatile amp ever!
Chuck's tone on Symbolic has got to be my favorite tone of his. In their previous albums it always sounded too scooped, this one sounds a lot more balanced and present in the mix, apart from being aggresive as hell.
By the way, i would like to know your opinion on the new Gojira song. The new album drops in April and i couldn't be more excited.
Awesome job! He was using the Marshall Valvestate 8100, but you nailed it using the DSL20. Been a couple of years that I am interested to this amp but I was hesitant. Now after watching all the tones you came up with, I am definitely buying one. It look like a very versatile amp which I like. Would like to hear a Black Sabbath tone with it.

It’s crazy that I wanted a mark v but honestly that dsl with either the Mesa or preferably the Marshall cab just slays that mark v! That amp is insane! Just unbelievable. Probably getting one. Couldn’t imagine a beod in front of that! It’d be a fire breathing dragon. Well it already is!
