Tracks Ahead is a favorite among train enthusiasts because it gives rail fanatics a chance to visit exotic rail destinations they may only read or dream about. Tracks Ahead presents the best of steam locomotives, railroad stories, model trains, scenic rail journeys and art. It also appeals to the staunch "railheads" as the program also features the technical aspect of trains and layouts.

The first time I had a train magazine in my hands was the Model Railroader of November 1990. In it there was an article about the Utah Belt by Eric Brooman , and the truth is that I was amazed that it was my inspiration to dedicate myself to model railways. It cost me because here in Chile it is difficult to get American rolling stock and accessories because they are very expensive, luckily now they can be bought directly. I congratulate you and thank you for encouraging me to this beautiful hobby. Greetings from Chile.

Eric works at my local Hobby Shop, I always ask him how the Railroad is when I see him. Last week his reply was, its still there. 😂

Loved the video! And I remember that there is an update on his Utah Belt in the December 2018 issue of Model Railroader!! I taught with Eric for many years at Hazelwood West (I was the choir director downstairs and he taught UPstairs and also sponsored the Model Railroad Club with tha wonderful setup in the classroom!) I retired about 15 years ago and have lost track of him. Was this video actually recorded in June, 2022? Many thanks!

An interesting side effect of Eric selling old equipment and keeping his fleet up to date is that now there are dozens if not hundreds of Utah Belt units operating on all kinds of freelance layouts all over, usually patched and heavily weathered compared to their UB service.
So now Utah Belt units are being effectively "patched" for other freelanced railroads, in the same way real railroads will buy second hand equipment and patch the markings. Some are even on their third or fourth patch job by now.

I really want to acquire a Utah Belt locomotive so I can join in on this. Sounds very fun.

Very neat! From what I can see here on RUclips, model railroaders in South Africa are very dedicated to their modeling and the craft, with a lot of make-do and ingenuity. Can't find more info on Brent Nichols but very neat he's the antipodal Utah Belt -- good fun!
