You showed us the "o" ring, but you didn't show actually removing it and replacing it. Is there anything not obvious about removing it? Pry it off over that big chunk of metal in front of it? Will it slip over that without breaking? Thanks

Is that o-ring special? I know some rings are effected by diesel and brake fluid. Reason I ask. I wish I could buy it from you but I’m currently anchored in Nuku Hiva FP

Vince, this is Bill we talked about that PCM 40 leaking out of the bolt on the side. Is the 1.23:1 pcm 40 able to come apart like this?

it seems that in your example leakage is coming from the three bolted plate were the neutral safety switch is located, I looked mine but there on the outside it looks dry. Or is the leakage inside and going out thru the shaft. I loose halve the content of oil in 30 hrs of running time. Is that the only place where it could leak? Does the outgoing shaft not have seals. The oil in my case is splashed outboard at the flywheel. Please advise.

What if the o ring is fine and the transmission still leaks. What else could it be?

A rubber seal then, there are many more.
I rebuilt mine. after removing the front plate, there was a square rubber ring. The cast iron plate got rusty, Rust built up on the surface displacing the square ring and caused a slow leak. Basically rubber seals, gaskets and corrosion cause leaks. It is a very simple hydraulic transmission these Velvet drives.

since it was a flat surface, I used a razor blade and scraped the rusted metal smooth. used grease on the surface and put in new seals and clutches and it's been perfect for many years.

would it be easier to just drop the $400 to pick up an ebay trany instead of going through all the nitty gritty and i do mean shitty gritty of the tediouse process of .....huh, wat....that looks like allot of tedium

You would rather spend $400 on a tranny that someone is trying to unload on ebay vs. spending 20 minutes of your time and 50 cents on an o-ring?
