Hey, Hedy, the moment I saw you beginning layout for your green beans, I KNEW what was for supper!!! I ran to the freezer, grabbed the half gallon container of beans (thanks to our Neighbors, the Fairchilds) got the snipped bacon and onions a-going then plopped in the green beans, frozen chunk and all---THEN I got back to your video. Everything in our kitchen is smelling good... yours look SO SO GOOD!!! We figure that pot liquor's good with some hot crispy0crusted cornbread!!! THANKS for tonight's supper inspiration, Hedy!!! You did good!!!
I made this recipe for dinner tonight and all I can say is that these were amazing! These are the best green beans I’ve had in a while! Thanks for sharing this amazing recipe!
I am impressed. I am an Italian cook and I can see that you use the best ingredients and the best flavorings in your cooking. I'm going to make this for my family I know they will love it
Great heady. Nice to see someone making something southern instead of just telling us it's the southern way, and then showing us the darn Yankee way of cooking. Thanks again and get well. A displaced hillbilly here.
LOL! Hey Daryell! I know exactly what you mean! I was of course raised cooking Southern and Louisiana style for sure. I guess it is mainly what I know. My sweet husband is a Yankee LOL! So I have learned from my mother in law how to make some things that way too. Let me tell you, though it is good, it is night and day worlds apart from Southern style! Thank you so much! :D
Aww, Tonia, thank you, you are so welcome! Yes, if you ever make them this way you will never want canned again! They are good using fresh or frozen! :D
I grew up eating this dish from about 1948. Yum! I make it slightly differently using Shelly Beans (I like Libby's but brand does not matter). I add some sugar and several whole onions that usually dissolve in the process, so I add a few more an hour before I finish YUM YUM. This is even better the second day (if you have any leftovers). I made a batch yesterday and barely had a cupful left so I am making another batch right now. And the leftover liquid is delicious too.
Your way sounds delicious! You bet they are better the second time. I try to mention that in my videos here and there that some dishes (like the green beans) are BETTER the second day! So many folks don't like leftovers! They are missing out aren't they? LOL Thank you for your comment and for watching! :D
I bet they came out just great! You know even if any recipe doesn't turn out perfect the first time, you just try it again and you will succeed! I apologize for the late response. I have had health issues for the last few months. Let me know how you liked them! :D
I am honored! Yes it is good with or without the broth, but the chicken broth does add flavor! Please let me know how it went! I sincerely would like to know! :D
Yes of course! I made a very basic recipe for this video. I usually always make a basic recipe for videos, as not to overwhelm any newbie cooks. The potatoes were listed down in the description. I do personally add them when I am making them for my family.
Best place to get them in season! But anytime I can't, I have a confession, I use high quality FROZEN green beans! I just go through and check them all. Also, I am also sorry to just be answering you as I have been ill and just able to get back on RUclips :D
LOL! It is so hard to NOT eat them up! I sure appreciate you honey! Happy Thanksgiving belated! I am way behind on comments as I am healing from major neck surgery. I am doing good right now and planning new videos to start coming out in the next few days!:D
LOL Thank you! I keep trying to stop saying ok LOL But I just keep doing it! Guess I'm just too old to stop! I am also sorry to just be answering you as I have been ill and just able to get back on RUclips. :D
Julia, you always make me smile honey! It makes me happy that you use these recipes! It is why I keep making videos, if I have helped anybody make a great meal, then I have done what I set out to do! :D
I love green beans. Mine are blooming in my garden. I only use to make my beans, bacon, ham or smoked sausage, onions and a pinch of sugar. Salt and pepper, and cooked low and slow. Sometimes potatoes cooked with them and sometimes canned biscuits steamed on top of my green beans. Only cooked in water. Chicken broth is used for chicken and noodles :) Thumbs up on your video. Grandma Sue in central Indiana and Izzi Too
Thank you again Grandma Sue! Low and slow only way to go! The chicken broth is a preference for sure (we all cook mainly how we were taught growing up) though the chicken broth definitely adds to the flavor. I have done both ways over the years and hands down the chicken broth is a winner. I am glad you mentioned chicken and noodles, I had a very old low quality video that I made for that, I took it down ages ago. I have been meaning to remake that for a very long time! Also my Grandma's chicken and dumplin' recipe! :D
I've used your recipe a good 4 or 5 times now and can't wait to again tomorrow. Just here brushing up lol. There's nothing quite like down home comfort food like this!
So easy, just make them up. Let them cool down, then just store in the refrigerator. They are great to reheat! To tell the truth they are even BETTER the NEXT day!
Can you show how to bake a big ole Country Ham, & Red Eye Gravy ? I think Dad used to soak it , its salt, & bake it low&slow. I can't remember the details & sure hope you know. I'd love to make a Christmas tradition OnCe again. Thank you sincerely. 💕👣🏡🌛☺
Yes Julia I sure will! I will also give you a shout out when I do! Believe it of not I already had it on my schedule to shoot during the next few weeks! So stay tuned honey! :D
Just LIKE Mama use to make; IT Don't get "No'Betta than THAT" ← … NUFF Said ... “🍺 Dilly Dilly”❗ PS. Mama did cook'em with "Small Red Taters" though … JUST Say'n ... “🍺 Dilly Dilly”❗
:D Thank you! I usually do as well, my favorite way to have them (I listed them under optional ingredients in the description) I try to make a basic version to start with for those not accustomed to cooking anything. LOL Dilly Dilly!
You think i can substitute canned green beans instead of fresh ones? ik canned anything with give it a different flavor but have u ever tried??.. thankss.
Hi Stephanie. In all honesty, you can "doctor" up canned green beans (and I surely have done it), you are correct, different flavor. While they would most certainly be better than regular canned green beans, the flavor would not be the same, but good. Now might I suggest that you try it instead with frozen green beans? Frozen is the far better alternative. I apologize for not answering you much sooner, I am getting over some severe health issues. I appreciate your question and hope I wasn't too late. :D
I am so sorry to just see this (I am behind on comments) Believe it or not I don't know anything about canning. I am not sure in this case because of the bacon. I am SO sorry I honestly just don't know. If anyone else does I would appreciate your comment in a reply to this.
Has anyone seen new videos from Hedy? She and I used to talk online and she was leaving her videos for surgery a couple of years ago and it seems that she has just gone away. :-(
Well hey there! You had great timing leaving a comment! I happened to just be on checking stats Elizabeth! I did get extremely ill and also I was devastated that my sweet Mama passed away on top of my illness. It was indeed a difficult time for me and I was gone for a very long while but in January I pushed ahead and came back with several new videos about 10-12 new ones. In February I became unexpectedly ill again, but am now pulling myself back up and slowly gaining my strength back. I have several videos that I shot about 2 1/2 months ago that I am slowly trying to finish editing so that I can upload them. I have many more videos planned, so Elizabeth stay tuned! I appreciate you sticking with me and I am glad to see you are back! :D
Where’s the link below for your own Cajun seasoning. We love Tony’s but it’s not gluten-free so my wife can’t have it anymore. ☹️ I know the ingredients but the amount of each has been a sticking point.
Hey Danny, my sons recently informed me that all folks cannot see annotations, that is where I had put the link, I did not realize that so I will put the link here for you and also up in the description. Thank you! ruclips.net/video/RRwB2iFYfF8/видео.html
The answer is actually both. This particular time I did not add the sugar. I do usually add it, though I honestly don't remember why at the time (5 years ago LOL) why I didn't. However, I do always add the salt. Down in the recipe description, it does show the sugar. as optional. Great question and thank you for asking! I hope I answered it! :D
Thank you for commenting. The liquid was cooked all the way down and they came out absolutely perfect. I have been making green beans for 40+ years LOL
Heidi honey, they are NOT mush. That is the way they are supposed to be made. In the South, many of us LOVE them cooked Southern style "to DEATH", as I stated in the video. You don't know what you are missing, some VERY YUMMY green beans. If you want steamed crunchy green beans honey, this is not the video for you! Thank you.

The way you cut the bacon and onions is amazing
Thank you so much! I always try to make things easier! :D
Reminds me of back home, good ole country green beans from deep Tennessee. Thank you for sharing. Made me miss home something bad though.
I made this recipe for dinner tonight and all I can say is that these were amazing! These are the best green beans I’ve had in a while! Thanks for sharing this amazing recipe!
Well that makes me happy! So glad you liked them!
Question in the video she said 7 cups of chicken broth but in the writing ingredients it says 4, how many cups did you used?
Made this today for Thanksgiving. It was AMAZING! Thank you so much.
I tried the recipe and the green beans were awesome, and everybody loved them. I make them often now.
Thanks Hedy

I've always bought canned green beans but not anymore. I've made green beans like this twice and your recipe is great and easy. Thanks!
Aww, Tonia, thank you, you are so welcome! Yes, if you ever make them this way you will never want canned again! They are good using fresh or frozen! :D

how long did you soak the beans?
I don;t normally soak green beans unless I am just washing them.
That look good but I like my beans cooked down dry maybe little scorched and greasy and few taters.
Yep that's what we call "cookin' 'em to death, that way of making 'em is some GOOD eatin'!! :D
