    Good job. You were channeling Mike Vallely for a minute there. Nice to see a younger person who is into old school. I've never seen a Lance Mountain deck like that before. I was going through some old photos of mine and I think I had some white Rat Bones like that on the deck I remember skating the best on, a Vision Kele Roscrans, which I just ordered online. I'm thinking of getting some Rat Bones for it if they get them back in stock. Back in the 80s I'm pretty sure they made those in harder durometers. I remember a friend having some 97as. I'm pretty sure they were Rat Bones. I would prefer 95a or 97a, but, I guess 90a is as high as they are making them now. I think you would be able to slide better with the harder durometers. I almost thought you had blue Ventures. I had a pair of those "back in the day." Long narrow axles like that. I'm not sure how easy to find Indy 215s even are now. For some reason, NHS only has up to 169s listed on their website. I just got some 159s for a Ray Barbie deck I had from around 1990 and they fit perfect. However, that deck has a really short wheel base (I want to say it's only like 13 5/8") and the tail is kicked up a lot. Way different than skating a Popsicle board. I wasn't sure if I could get away with not using a riser with some 53mm Mini Logo A-Cut wheels, but, it looked like wheel bite would be an issue unless I really cranked the trucks tight. So, I put a 1/4" riser on it, which makes the tail even more kicked up. I can't see myself using the Barbie deck much. Once I get the Roscrans which has a 15" wheel, I'm hoping I find it more skatable. I used to be able to ollie over 5 boards interlocked vertically. My ollies are sucking these days. So, I'm curious what I can do on the Roscrans board and how it compares to the Mini Logo Popsicle boards that I've been skating. I just upgraded to a 8.5 Mini Logo deck yesterday, which I like better than the narrower boards I had been using previously. I don't think I would want to return to a 80s style 10" board, but, I just find narrow boards to be ridiculous. It's like riding a 2 x 4. Even the 8.25" deck I've been skating felt that way after spending a few minutes in the Barbie deck. I agree with you about the shape of the wheels. Wheels that are symmetrical on both sides are better IMHO. I tend to cone my wheels out. Especially, the front ones from tic-tacing around. So, i rotate them and flip them. Pretty cool seeing someone young doing old school tricks, not making fun of it.

  • @TheSurfskateboarder

    Nice video. Regarding wheel shapes. Longboard and surfskate wheels are wide and square in order to increase the contact patch. Contact patch refers to the surface area a wheel makes with the ground. A wheel with a round edge is lighter, flips easier, and slides better but still has the width needed to protect the axel. The downside of these wheels is they lose speed quickly in flat areas. A big wide square longboarding wheel has a large contact patch which makes it more grippy and more difficult to slide but your weight is distributed over a larger area and it’s easier to maintain speed, even in flat areas.

      I have both. The difference seemed neglible. Actually, Powell released a Dragon formula of them that are narrower and 93A. I have those two. Better than both the others. • @idmhead0160
      @idmhead0160 Год назад +2

      @@Natecoxy Powell has re-issue wheels for Rat Bones and G Bones. I think those are using the same urethane from the 80s. Or at least they have the same shape. The Rat Bones are 80A for the black ones and 90A for the white ones. The G Bones are 97A. A couple months ago, Powell released a version of Rat Bones and G Bones that use the new Dragon formula urethane, which is 93A. The versions of those wheels are a little narrower than the originals. They slide better. I would definitely go with the Dragon formula versions. I have the originals and the Dragon ones and much prefer the Dragons. Regarding Rat Bones versus G Bones, I think it mainly depends on whether you want 60mm wheels or 64mm. The G Bones are taller. The other thing is, Rat Bones are offset wheels. The wheel extends out over the end of the axle about 1/8". So, if you want the wheels to line up with the side of your deck, you want to go with a narrower set of trucks. For example, I have a Powell 8.75 Popsicle shaped deck that I have Rat Bones on with Indy 149s (8.5"). It's pretty much a perfect fit. I like the Rat Bones better because a prefer a less tall wheel.

      @@idmhead0160 I've got all the reissue wheels, I ride rat bones 90a and mini cubics regularly. I'm just wanting to know if the dragon formula soaks up vibration better than the 90a rat bones or if they ride harder. Dragon formula g bones are $129 here in NZ so trying to find out if they'd be any good for a cruiser before I waste my money

    • @idmhead0160
      @idmhead0160 Год назад

      @@Natecoxy IMHO, they eliminate the need for the old formula. I can test them side by side to refresh my memory and get back to you, but, off the top of my head, my impression is that the old formula no longer serves a purpose. The new ones slide better and roll over rough asphalt no problem. Way better than smaller wheels, even smaller Dragons. If you don't care about doing slides and you are only cruising on rough pavement, checkout Mini Logo AWOLs 80A. They have them in 55, 59, and 63mm. They are definitely the fastest of the wheels that I've used. Better than the harder wheels. You can't really slide with them though. The Dragon G Bones slide better then the reissues do even though they are 97A. If nothing else, because the wheels aren't as wide.
