    "I'm showing you this one because we're friends and I promised to show you the whole collection" -- Dying over here! that was so cute. The good, bad and the ugly. It's real life. You've always been the youtuber that I associate most with anthurium so it was great to see your whole collection. I still don't have any but this year I really want to change that. I almost bought Selby's Silver but now I'm glad I did not. I will start with something a little simpler although I'm very much drawn to the silvery ones, maybe silver blush!

    Looking at your wendlingeri I think of two things, give that thang CalMag and maybe adjust the pH bc that could also be sth preventing it from uptaking nutrients... anthurium do enjoy more acidic water with a pH of around 5,5 - 6,0

    • @PlantFriendDownTheStreet
      @PlantFriendDownTheStreet  Год назад +1

      You’re right I need to stop being lazy and give it the cal mag again… I normally do adjust my anthurium PH but lately I’ve done a few Azamax applications and I don’t PH balance when I do that. I’ll have to start up again with giving it the good stuff. Thank you for the tip! I really want to get that plant turned around.

    • @PlantFriendDownTheStreet
      @PlantFriendDownTheStreet  Год назад

      Crystal hope is a specific lineage though. Without documentation that this plant is from the sale line, you can’t call it that. I honestly think it’s a better dupe for the FTG silver than the crystal hope but there’s no way to know for sure. It’s just a Indonesian complex hybrid that happens to be really nice. Hope you’re doing well!

  • @theonyxblack
    @theonyxblack Год назад +1

    What an amazing collection! Your videos are always awesome 💚 I sooo want to buy a Blue Papilillaminum x, but it's 190 USD. Do you think it's worth it? It's so stunning, but I'm not sure if I should spend that much money

    • @PlantFriendDownTheStreet
      @PlantFriendDownTheStreet  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much! So for the blue Papi it’s tough to say without more info but my hunch is that if it’s only 190 it’s either tissue cultured or not pure Pap. What that means is that it doesn’t really have any intrinsic value and unless it matures into something special, it won’t be worth anything for breeding or resale, which is fine if you just want the plant for what it is but may be annoying if you ever need to sell it. I’d honestly probably join some anthurium groups and maybe save up to get a plant your 100% in love with or some seeds to play with or seedlings or trades or something. 190 is not a lot for a Pap but it’s a lot for a plant in general. There are a lot of low quality complex hybrids floating around out there right now. I’d probably be very conservative with buying expensive anthurium right now without the proper paper trail of what the parents looked like and where they came from. Never pay a lot for an anthurium without mother plant or parent plant pics, and even then, the breeder should know the specific line all of the ancestors came from. Without all of this, you could get ripped off, but you could also be buying plants that came from plants that have been poached. Hope that’s helpful?

    • @theonyxblack
      @theonyxblack Год назад +1

      @Plant Friend Down The Street Thank you ever so much for taking the time to reply! It's a hybrid for sure, but they don't know the parentage except for one of them being a Papi. It's a cutting with four gorgeous leaves. There's a picture of the mother plant and she's stunning too! The mature leaves look extremely dark with a blue hue.
      I probably wouldn't ever sell it if it was mine. I guess the value would just be for its beauty, not its family line

    • @PlantFriendDownTheStreet
      @PlantFriendDownTheStreet  Год назад +1

      Ok, that’s all helpful info! Especially considering that it’s a fairly large plant and not a seedling and they have the mother plant pics I think 190 is an understandable price. If you feel like if you pass that this will be the one that got away and the money isn’t an issue, then I’d say go for it. Might be good practice with Paps to build confidence in case your eventual goal is to get something a little fancier… but be warned, this will absolutely be a gateway to wanting something fancier! My FS x RL narrow form was like mid triple digits for that one tiny, yellowed leaf so can confirm that sexy Paps are terrible for your financial well being, haha! Feel free to tag me on Instagram, I’d love to see the plant if you get it!

    • @PlantFriendDownTheStreet
      @PlantFriendDownTheStreet  Год назад +1

      I would be comfortable calling it “Chrystal hope aff” maybe but as far as I can tell it’s not quite the same. I don’t think the crystal hope has the pink/purple emergent leaves. I really believe it’s just a complex hybrid from Indonesia that just happens to be really nice. There’s no way to prove out what it really is unfortunately.

    The second anthurium doesn’t look like longissimilobum.

      I’d be curious to know the source of the ID you’re comparing to because I see lots of people posting plants that don’t look correct under “Longissimilobum” but pretty confident mine is the correct ID. I’ve had it since before they started being mass produced and got it from Ivan Portilla personally. Also possible that the plant can have morphological changes as it matures or based on growing conditions. This one had much more narrow lobes before it started to mature. Also possible there could be multiple eco types with slight variations.

    Any advice on how to avoid crisping leaves? Your crystal mag is just pristine, meanwhile mine gets the same crisping that you see on your forgetii and queen, and I can never tell if it's caused by overwatering or underwatering. Also, your Besseae aff is ingrained into my eyeballs. That wide sinus coupled with those "wicked" veinations as I would describe it, I feel like getting a Besseae aff would make me feel okay about not having a Delta Force
    Edit: Oh, and your Doc Block looks scrumptious as well. I almost forgot about it because of the Besseae lmao

      So for perfect anthurium leaves I’ll tell you what Ivan from Ecuagenera told me and that it’s all in your water quality. I only water my anthurium with filtered water that’s been ph balanced because that’s all I can do, but if you can collect rainwater, use aquarium water, RO or distilled that’s even better. If the crisping starts at the very tip, that could be over fertilizing.

      @@PlantFriendDownTheStreet ohhh. I water using aquarium water because that's all I have available and it still happens, so maybe I should dilute my fertilizer water more. Thank you!

      Yeah, I’d probably start with that. Other thing is you could maybe look into Phyton 27. It’s a bacterial/fungal systemic in case the damage is from something like that. Only other thing I can think of would be underwatering… if you’re not sure whether it’s over or underwatering, maybe your substrate isn’t retaining water and you need to up pot? Idk what system you’re using but if they’re in semi hydro, you might be letting your reservoirs go to low or need to increase how often you flush… there are so many factors but I hope something clicks that’s helpful!

      @@PlantFriendDownTheStreet this is super helpful, thank you! I'll be looking into Phyton 27 just in case I might need it. As for the substrate, I actually repotted the crystal mag the day before yesterday and the substrate it was in was too peat heavy, so that could've been a factor. Repotted it into a more airy substrate but in a container with no drainage with the expectation that it will provide moisture to the roots while the substrate itself doesn't remain too dense and water retentive. I know it's kinda unorthodox in the community but it's helped me monitor when to water plants compared to pots with drainage, we'll see how it fares with those conditions. I think the water quality is my biggest challenge though, I hope distilled water becomes a viable option for me one day. Thank you once again for your advice❤️

      A brita filter does the trick for me!
