What a relief! I am so glad that Finland is safe for now. Like many other NATO members, Finland has its own culture and language that must be preserved against the threat of an invasion, enslavement and the outlawing of the Finish language.

@@briandubois-gilbert8182 You guessed it. But in all honesty, Turkey is the bigger threat. Not so much due to their size of their army that dwarfs Hungary's but because of their invaluable (according to shortsighted Washington bureaucrats) geostratigical position which prohibits us Westerners to let go of our naivete and end any and all relations with Turkey.
But in my very humble opinion, Greece and Cyprus (the latter isn't in NATO though) are actually very legit and valuable replacements.
In the case of Greece, it might not directly control the straits but it does control the Aegean, especially is they expand to 12 n.m. Reason they haven't done this yet is because of a casus belli being issued from good ol' Turkey. Our Islamofascist, anti-West "ally" that threatens with war on a fellow NATO member, that is ACTUALLY an ally, should it do something that is allowed by UNCLOS.
As for Cyprus, it is the most eastern part of the EU. And while it doesn't have land borders with Iran, Iraq and Syria, it's location should be sufficient enough for NATO. Heck, it's location was THE reason it got conquered by many empires over the course of history. Not to mention that joining NATO would be ideal to solve the crisis with Turkey that still occupies the northern part.

Even though it's totally understandable why Russia didn't attack Finland trying to join NATO - the reason being because Russia couldn't afford it, during its own war in Ukraine, which it is making little or no progress in - I'm surprised that Russia didn't attack Finland. Not that I would want Russia to do so. But because I have been so used to Russia's threats against Finland joining NATO. Not only because Finland shares a border with Russia, but also because of the length of that part of the border. And although I wasn't expecting Russia to invade Finland because Russia couldn't afford it, I still had to admit that Russia could have been desperate enough to not let Finland join NATO, that Russia might go through whatever length it could to attempt to prevent Finland from joining NATO. Even despite the fact that it was logical that Russia would not be successful. And of course if Russia were to use nukes or chemical weapons, NATO would have taken action. Across the Russian border.

I'm also so glad that Finland achieved independence from Russia since Finland, once a part of Sweden, never wanted to become part of the Russian Empire. I have heard hardly any national anthem besides the American, but the music in the Finnish national anthem sounds so great. It reminds me of the celebration and beginning of freedom, peace, joy, and a Country's survival of a war/holocaust. Such as Finland's survival of the Russian Empire. Like a century- long Russian war. Illegally annexed by Russia. As a reminder: Finland could have refused to recognize itself as part of the Russian Empire.

Everyone on Europe has a nuke pointed at them. At least in major population centers. This has been a reality for about as long as there has been nukes. I really don't get why this nuke thing is now emphasised to the point of it becoming lame. But if you take the point of view that nukes are pretty much all and everything Russia has, then it makes a lot of sense to be constantly bringing yhem up in statements, declarations and discussions, even here in youtube.
If Russia uses their nukes, then they use them 🤷🏻♂️ Until then I don't loose even a minute's worth of sleep over Russian nukes being pointed here or there.
By the way. Russia always lies. They weren't supposed to considet Finland as an enemy during the cold war, but despite all their friendly talk they had missiles pointed at us, at Helsinki from Estonia all the time.
I always assumed the USSR and Russia were targeting us, with nukes even. That's one of the reasons NATO is a good thing for Finland.

The only losers from Finland's entry into NATO are the Finns! That they will live in a nation occupied by foreign troops and that will live with tensions against their Russian neighbors! Finland has not only lost its neutrality, but also its peace and ability to promote more peaceful Arctic trade! The price of being an American Vasail is hell without end! Now Finland languishes with the greatest regret for its reckless acts! Caution dictates that you should never corner your opponents to the point of leaving them with no way out but total victory after an all or nothing! And that is what the irresponsibility of European and NATO leaders is doing to the world and to Russia. The whole world has already understood that the evil in the world is NATO.
If Russia didn’t have a habit of violating its neighbors’ sovereignty then NATO expansion wouldn’t be necessary. It’s 2023 not 1939, Russia can’t invade its neighbors without consequence.

Finland has not been neutral for 30 years. It joined EU 1995 and all this time it had a close partnership with Nato and regularly army trainings together.
Finns deserve the Darwin Prize. On the eve of a nuclear war, they voluntarily became the number 1 target for nuclear weapons by joining NATO.

I am unconvinced. Right now, Moskva must be seriously pondering it's posture and hopefully, doing some soul-searching. Soumi has a long land border, but most importantly, is very close Russia's only warm water port. Any attack on NATO will result in very harsh consequences, which I truly hope never happens.
