I had the same thoughts after having a Remedy since 2010! Still have my 2017, but I ended up getting a 2021 Fuel EX 9.7 (130/140mm). It was a great bike for trail rides, but on the rough trails and big hits it was a bit of a handful. Almost the perfect all-rounder! Then I moved to a Ripmo AF which is my current ride, and what did Trek do??? Yep, more travel on the Fuel along with ditching proprietary stuff and updating the geometry. I love my Ripmo but have an eye on the new Fuel...thanks for the stoke!
I have the gen 6 9.8 xt on order at the moment, due date is 05/12/2022 at the moment so in the mean time I’m on my giant trance x advanced pro 1 live. Looking forward to the arrival.
@@DustyTrailsMTB haven’t seen colour in the flesh, will be changing brakes to tech 4s and possibly tyres. Can you give an honest opinion on the bontragers? Current uk conditions in mind are damp/wet and muddy. Tempted to try them first.
@Anthony Pooran I tossed my Bontragers pretty quick. I wasn't liking them on the loose sand covered rocks of Moab. I tossed in some cushcore and Assegai tires and am much happier. Took me a bit of work to get this bike feeling the way I wanted. My experience with the Rwmedy was that it always felt good right off the shelf. I was expecting the same with the fuel. But im starting to understand and like this bike!
Dude, I watched both videos and those are fast and gnarly trails were you ride.. but you looks very confortable with the new Fuel Ex. I think IS the ONE bike for everything, What do you think?. I usted to have the Slash and is just a superenduro bike, too much for me. I has a remedy, but I prefer 29 wheels. Do you recomend this bike?
Thanks bud! These trails are sweet! I can't say yet if I recommend it or not. I'm still working through it. I miss that extra 10mm of travel in the rear that the Remedy Had. But I'm working to dial in my suspension to see if that makes a difference. Most of the time I felt like I was on a super capable bike. Felt amazing! But I was always disappointed when I felt that bottom out.
Hey man, I'm kinda curious what do you think about your Fuel Ex. I know you weren't sure about it in the bike park at first but you also said that you needed to ride it more. In the end, what's your opinion about it and what setup did you go with ?
I'm thinking about putting out a video on the topic, but it's hard to put my thoughts together. I constantly find myself saying "this is the best bike I've ever ridden". The bike is a beast. It does climb really well, and feels like a true trail bike. It's just so much more capable than the Remedy all around. But I do sometimes feel under-biked. As I charge harder, I sometimes wish I had something like the Slash - Especially in the Whistler Bike Park (and I'm not even riding the big stuff). I love the bike enough to have talked Anna into buying one (she rides hers in a mullet configuration and loves it). I would buy this bike again. But maybe I am a two bike kinda guy? Anyway. Hope that helps for now.
I got the 9.8 because it was the only build available. But i swapped out enough components to make me wonder if I should have built up a frame - but that was also not an option as they were unavailable as well. For you, it depends on whether or not you like the idea of carbon and how long you want to hold onto the bike. If you're the type of rider who will hold onto this frame for years, you could always go with the 9.7 and upgrade components in time.
I did after this ride for a short period. I found the benefits of the smaller wheel didn't outweigh my love for feeling that big rear wheel claw its way up and over obstacles. So I'm riding it as a 29r now. My wife rides her size small as a mullet. But she took my wheel to do so, so now I don't even have a choice!
@joshking3267 I didn't. I've considered it, but the suspension is one of the places where this bike shines. The tune of that rear shock is so good, I am afraid to spend the money to potentially make the bike worse. Know what I mean?
Hi! I'm about to get my new bike, and right now I'm between an used Trek Remedy 9.8 2020 and a brand new Fuel EX 7 Gen 6, I see that those models are exactly the ones you have. What would you recommend me to choose?
Can I ask how much you're spending on the used Remedy? I love my Remedy. But this Fuel feels like an evolved version of that bike. I'd go with the newer bike for the more modern geometry with the knowledge that you can always upgrade components as needed.
@@DustyTrailsMTB sure! the used remedy is about 4,000 USD and the new Fuel EX 7 Gen 6 is in 3,699 (not sure if that is the one you have but is the one under my budget), I'm also looking at the scott genius 940 2022
