- Fletch travels to the Highlands Hotel in Mittagong, NSW, for a ‘Front Bar’ style tribute to Neil Joiner, a remarkable Australian and Holden legend who recently passed away. Neil, the founder of the Trafalgar Holden Museum, was a true gentleman with an unparalleled passion for Holden and Australian Manufacturing.
Classic Restos visited Neil at the Trafalgar Holden Museum many times, always receiving a warm welcome and access to all areas while showcasing one of the best Holden Museums in the country. Fletch reflects on the episodes that featured the Trafalgar Holden Museum and his time with Neil.
Neil's profound knowledge of Holden's history was outstanding. The museum reflects the complete history from its origins as a saddlery company to a car body builder for numerous manufacturers and then a car manufacturer in its own right. The museum also houses an exclusive prototype of the Torana from 2004, which, despite never going into production due to concerns about competing with Commodore sales during the GFC, was a futuristic-looking car for its time.
The museum features a wide range of Holden models, with a special section dedicated to Peter Brock and his iconic vehicles, including the renowned Peter's Austin A7 Paddock bomb, '74 LH Torana, Austin A30 and a remarkable collection of Peter Brock memorabilia.
Fletch fondly reminisces one of his first visits to the Trafalgar Holden Museum, specifically two notable vehicles, a 1969 HT Monaro 253 V8 and an exceptionally rare 1957 FJ Holden Wagon, one of only three known to exist.
Neil Joiner and his devoted team of volunteers have undeniably created an enduring legacy. The Trafalgar Holden Museum is indeed a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Holden's rich history.
Fletch I'm sure I speak for many of the volunteers who donate time to the museum. It was an absolute joy to share his company, his passion for Holden . . . .and the odd glass of red. What a revered and much loved man he was, and will forever be in the eyes of so many. Thank you Fletch. Great sentiments. Brett
My absolute pleasure Brett & thank you for the kind words. Fletch.
Never met Neil, but just listening to him here and his enthusiasm and knowledge I reckon he'd be a great bloke to sit down and just listen to his history and stories... We need more Neils in this country.
Thanks Fletch, Shannons and Highlands Hotel...
Thank you Bruce. You are absolutely correct. Regards Fletch.
Thanks Fletch. Another awesome episode. Neil Joiner was and is a True Legend. Holden all the way every day I say. RIP Neil. Amazing Dude.Would love to have met him and visited his Museum.
From a Kiwi.
Thank you Darryl. Regards Fletch.
RiP Neil Joiner, you are a treasure to the Trafalgar Holden Museum . Your legacy will always live on❤.
Thank You Fletch. Thank You Neil !
Hopefully we'll get to visit Neil's Masterpiece one day.
Vale Neil, what a man. Thank you Fletch for an amazing episode. I have started planning a road trip to Trafalgar to visit the museum. I raise a glass of red to Neil to celebrate his passion and dedication. Cheers from Mark.
Great story and a great Man. Thank you
Great story Fletch keep them coming 👏
That FJ wagon got the memory back in to action Fletch, an amazing collection, bit sad to see the Holden museums closing
That's why we have to keep these places going Jim - and Neil was the strongest advocate ever. Many thanks for watching Jim, regards Fletch.
Great Video tribute. Please please Don't let this museum go the way of the Holden Museum in Echuca. 😪
I wish something could have been done to keep that running. I enjoyed visiting it twice in the last 20 years.
I am yet to get to this Holden Museum at Trafalgar. Hopefully Very Very soon.
Hi John, indeed mate, everyone's thoughts entirely I imagine. We have to do our best in supporting these places. It shows in the United States, more people, more volume, and their Museums continue. I know we have smaller numbers here in Australia, we work with what we have. Cheers John. Fletch.
G'day Fletch , Neil, was a great Australian, the museum has a lot of history. I will definitely be calling in for a look...certainly shows what Australia has lost .😢
Hi Ian, thank you very much for your comment here. The Trafalgar team will welcome you. Take care. Fletch.
Thanks Fletch great tribute to a wonderful man and a true gentleman from one of the volunteers from Trafalgar holden museum thank you
From Phil
More than a pleasure Phil - it's the least I could do representing our classic vehicle fraternity. Keep up your work fantastic work also. Kindest regards Fletch.
Good episode Fletch. The original video was one of the best I have seen on Classic Restos.
How sad! :(
Hope his legacy (ie the museum), will continue!
Condolence to Neil's family
Both of them born the same year.
R.I.P Mr Joiner. From the car world at large.
Hello Fletch, we flew from Newcastle to Melbourne to visit the museum in April this year. It was well worth the visit. Neil has left a real legacy behind, I hope they keep it going. We found the volunteers very friendly and helpful.
Hey Peter, yes, our volunteers at the few Museums we have left, do outstanding work. They are keeping the dream alive. Many thanks, and for watching. Cheers Fletch.
For a very long time I've wanted to get to the Trafalger Holden museum. For various health related issues that hasn't been achievable, so far. Sad news indeed about Neil's passing. His legacy will live on, I'm sure his family and those great volunteers will make that happen.
I'm now more determined than ever to make that trip. Great tribute to such a deserving man Fletch.
Excellent John, thank you for making the effort - you will be glad that you did. Neil would appreciate it. He stopped for EVERYONE...he just loved people visiting... Cheers to you, Fletch.
Raise my glass to this great man. Cheers!
Thanks Fletch. I have donated to Trafalgar and hope to visit one day. Cheers, Carl
Very sad news Fletch. Neil was a real gentleman as you say. What a great legacy he has left us all and I am glad that he was able to do something he really loved. 👍
Absolutely Mark. Neil was one of the finest. Many thanks for your kind words and for watching. Cheers always, Fletch.

The aim of the early 2000's prototype "Torana" was not necessarily to actually build and release them but to gauge what was to become the VE Commodore look to the public by stealth as no one really put 2 & 2 together at the time and realise we were effectively looking at a slightly smaller VE Commodore at the Motor Show at the time.
Great tribute Fletch… Neil’s knowledge on Holden was astounding … certainly lost a good bloke…
Indeed George. Indeed. Fletch.
RIP Neil
Is the Torana prototype now in Birdwood Motor Museum?
Sad news rip Neil
The FGX in front of the pub⚠ RIP Neil🙏
Hey Steve, in the perfect world a 48-215 would have been out front, yes. That Falcon is Brett's car, owner of the Highlands Hotel in Mittagong NSW. The Falcon is a moving billboard for his Pub. Because Brett was kind enough to let us use his Real Estate on the day as a mini film set, Falcon out front was a small trade off I think.
Brett also likes his classic Holden's, and as seen in the episode, some initiative on his part shown with some Holden pictures displayed. Cheers Steve & thank you for watching. Regards Fletch.
@@classicrestostv1fletch764 Love your work. Thanks
👍📖❤
Will the museum continue?
Hopefully if us Holden fans support it.
Trafalgar Square
Sth Is. NZ around the year 2000 parked behind my club was around 6 badged Holden Toranas in the guise of a general Smart Cars design & no one believes me nor cares 💀

Fact check: Hurricane was 1969 not 1980, 1st Premier was EJ not HD.
It's hardly the time for a pedantic fact check. Neil has passed for goodness sake. Please accept this tribute for what it stands for. There's no time for the classroom here. Cheers Fletch.
