    Kenpo looks more Kung-Fu base than any other Karate I seen. Jeff Speakman love his movie the The perfect Weapon. I'm a TKD,and Boxer, person but I just love looking at any Martial art much props. Folks don't realize Martial Arts is alot of hard work you will not get good unless you put the time into it.

      Karate is no different than dance classes. You have to have a cooperative partner. It’s as beneficial as years of ballet would be in a real fight.

    The exhibition in 2004 is but a variation by Mr Speakman of what Mr Parker had been doing this type of exhibition since 1964 and before and it has been part of all Kenpo shows that I recall. This is Mr Speakman's version as of that date and I am sure the choreography has evolved over time.
    Those who evaluate Kenpos potential as a fighting art through this video totally miss the point that this is meant to demonstrate the excitement, speed, coordination and potential of the art.
    As a student privileged to work with many of the highest ranking Masters including Mr Parker over the past 35 years - to a person they would say the art as a fighting system has been established and systematized over the years and the true measure of its value comes from the student and what they bring to the art and the amount of time they spend mastering its skills.
    While Mr Parker evolved hundreds of endings to its techniques he would be first to say that the secret to Kenpo mastery is in learning the basics- through repetition and real body work.
    And when the student reached a high enough level of skill he would be acting in what Mr Parker liked to call a gaseous state, where the moves flowed almost without thought in a continuous fashion and the basics are melded into a flow of aggression to match the situation.
    Michael Bobrow

    As a kenpo instructor I've never told my students that the katas and techs would be what they used irl. They are for learning how/where/when to use strikes/blocks, for learning how to marry or flow from one strike to the next, and to open your mind to ways to attack/defend (we use alot of improve drilling as well). Anyone teaching them otherwise, with all due respect, is going to get someone killed.

    It's awesome to see people that may need to lose a few pounds and aren't so flexible doing backflips and jumping spinning back kicks! Jeff Speakmen must have been an amazing teacher, no doubt.

  • @sledge56BV

    I used to be a Black Belt practitioner, of Kenpo Karate, back in the 1980s; this video reminds me of why I packed it up, and switched to more authentic traditional Martial Arts - supplemented by basic "combatives" for 'unarmed combat' training. Demos like this just seem pretty silly to me now!

    • @AGC828
      @AGC828 7 лет назад +1

      How so? My only comment would be that Jeff packed on the pounds. Doesn't look very good in demo's having to carry the extra weight. Prevents some movements from being fluid. Can make a great Kata person suddenly look sloppy.

    In school I saw an older kid getting picked on he was overweight and just got slapped hard by this black kid he had his hands up and was backing away. He then took off his glasses and I could see he was crying. He breathed and took that bully down fast with what initially looked like flaring arms only to realize he was the only standing and that those were a multitude of strikes. I remember asking Stewart how he did that as he stood kind of like he was trying to balance on a tight rope or something (actually looked kind of funny? I asked how he did that? He said my parents couldn't afford N.E.S for my birthday but my moms friend gives us a low income discount at the gym. I remember all the tournaments he enjoyed!!!!!
    What I remember most is that he never bragged, he knew what he was capable of and really had nothing to prove.

    Those who know their arts and don't get too scared in a fight to remember them do well. Those who forget everything they know because they are keyboard candy asses who spoke to the wrong person with disrespect the way they do on facebook and youtube videos usually get their little asses kicked. It doesn't matter the art, it matters the person. Be good to one another, this life is too short.

    It wasn't a bad system, there was some stuff I really liked, like their street-oriented groundfighting over BJJ but overall it seems it would be better to start with Israeli Krav Maga then switch from other systems. I am looking to learn WW2 combatives. I think Carl Cestari's material will be more compatible with the striking I've been exposed to. The Line System looked interesting though.

    you are right, i`m black belt in kenpo kosho ryu a two people attacked me, i survived, it was an instinct, but it´s different in real life, to many tricks doesn`t work at all, keep it simple, we have to learn haw to punch and kick as quickly as we can and run, real fight isn`t like a movie we have to face it that

  • @MrBigdaddy8
    @MrBigdaddy8 12 лет назад

    Mr. Speakman is also a true innovater in the art. He added a ground fighting element to kenpo with his 5.0 system. I was always told to do my kenpo on the ground but I never saw how that was possible. how do you use back up mass or gravitational marriage when you are flat on your back with some 250 pound bad guy pounding on you? Mr. Speakman is a true kenpoist and Mr. Parker would/did agree.

      yeah, kenpo people unfortunately are brainwashed. anyone who trains real martial arts or combat sports can see this is pure nonsense. Ed Parker was a conman and a lying sack of shit who was never a black belt in anything and there's no fight record of him, only his claims of being a "street fighter".
      this is NOT KARATE, and has no connections or similarity to any real Karate.

I am in my fifties and had a fight with a neighbor recently, why he would want to pick a fight with me is startling, he knows I pratice martial arts. I ended the confrontation with a palm heel to his chest with full power after giving him several warnings to get off my property. He felt because he is this body builder bully he could start a fight with me, well he was surprised after he went 20 feet across my lawn. Use what you know.
