I'm just getting back to FoF after having a sniff at it a few years ago. Thank you for the playthrough, and to the commenters pointing out rules oversights.
Excellent presentation: clear, articulate, and to the point -- thanks! I've had the game since 2015, but haven't played it in three years. This video is bringing it all flooding back, including some disastrous past missions I had pushed out of my mind. Well done! I'm looking forward to Turn 2.
This is my second attempt to learn this game after I shelved the second edition for a few years, and these videos did the trick for me. Good idea to ignore the extraneous pyrotechnics for simplicity-sake and run a no-frills game to get the mechanics down. Excellent! After I plow through all 5 videos I'll be setting up a real game! Thanks a bunch for this!
Thanks for watching and for the kind feedback. I do hope the series is useful. I do make some errors or forget some things although I also get to correct most of them. Important message is just to concentrate on the core mechs because it really is a great game. Thanks again!👍
First, thank you for moving yourself or the bird! Since I'm using earbuds, the sound of the bird tweeting in the first part of episode one was very distracting. Second, indicating the card number(s) when you draw a card would help. That way I can discard the card from my deck and not pull it later. Very good series. Very concise and informative. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Really enjoying this series so far, thanks! Just a note to anyone learning the game from this series: in the 2nd Ed rules, after each activated leader draws for their commands (e.g. at 8:40), they must use/save/lose them before you draw for the next leader's commands (see rule 4.1). I think this was not the case in 1st Ed, which is why Chris Hobbs did not do that in his old video series.
Thank you! From the rules: "After you have finished spending Commands from the selected PLT HQ or CO Staff, flip its Command counter to its Activation Completed side, select the next Activated HQ, and repeat the process" (3rd edition, 4.1.1).
This is why I don't make playthroughs on YT! I would never be able to do as good a job of it as you just did! Great video of a great game. Really enjoyed it.
That's very kind of you and it's great encouragement thank you. Honestly I just say what's in my head and have fun if I can. I have one camera and one light that's all. I thought it was all a bit too basic but some people seem to like it. Thanks again for watching :)
Great video! I’ve just managed to find a copy of 2nd edition for a decent price delivered from the US, really looking forward to giving it a go myself. I’ve seen they are releasing a Deluxe edition and a cheaper “upgrade” box to update to this from 2nd edition, hopefully this will be available soon! 👍
Excellent videos in this series so far, thanks! Played Vol II several years back and now gearing up to play Vol I, your playthrough helps me remembering what's what. 👌🏻
I'm only half way through this video and it already seems like a really elegant system this game has! Looking forward to the P500 for the upcoming Deluxe Edition.
Hi Chris, thanks for watching, I appreciate it. Good on you if you plan to get the Deluxe edition, you won't regret it. It can only improve your experience of probably the very best solo wargame ever printed!👍
Hopefully this is how we all play these games in our heads, but I guess I just say it all out loud :) But it's great of you to point it out and I'm so glad you enjoy it! Thanks for your positive encouragement, it's appreciated very much! :)
Terrific. Enjoyed that! Such a fun game once you get your head around it. Mines + Sniper! Ha ha. That's always the one time you somehow draw no blast icons for the Mines - only to be picked off by the sniper. :)
Your video was excellent. Subscribed. Well done explaining the game and like others have said, your additional explanations have really beefed out why you do what you do. This is a super game. Lots of people avoid it. It is difficult to grasp - mainly because the rules are pretty poor - but once you do have it down pat, it's pretty easy to play and flows nicely. I love it - my number one solo game by far
Thanks Billy, really appreciate your visit and your Sub! I agree its the #1 solo wargame by far but takes some time investment in order to grasp it. Thanks for your feedback! 👍
The deluxe edition that's coming out soon apparently has not only an improved rulebook but also a beginner's guide, which will also be available as free PDF downloads.
@@Hakucho64 I believe there's an update option too for people who have the game that will include the updated manual as well as various other updates elements. Can't wait personally. This is the single best solitaire game out there and the main thing holding it back is the manual.
Brilliant set of videos that help me understand in simplistic detail….it’s radios that seem to be a little more difficult to understand as the game progresses. Keep up the excellent work and sharing with us…new subscriber as a result of these videos…all the best
I feel the same. I've had this for 2 or 3 years now and have tried to play it a couple of times but found certain aspects complicated - I even struggle with knowing which equipment chits I can use in the 1st mission as they didn't seem to match with what was listed in the instructions. Another excellent video (I've commented on a few others recently) and I look forward to watching the rest. Hopefully I'll feel confident enough to get the game off the shelf again in the near future.
Hi Jamey, thank you for taking a look! I hope the videos are helpful. There are some small errors but the important thing is to relax and push on. Just enjoy the spirit of the game 😊👍
You did a tremendous job in those videos. Thank you so much for that! I just ordered Vol I, today and cannot wait to get it on the table. It is immensely helpful, you are going so slowly step by step. Still have turns 2-4 in front of me and really looking forward to it!
I am loving this series. It's so helpful to such a complex system shown in action. I am confused though.... 44:00 - Does the enemy have LOS to the village? Its not adjacent, and the village is surrounded by green. Or does the opponent not follow LOS rules?
Thanks again Brian. Yes the enemy certainly does follow LOS rules. Firstly we can see INTO a green border, but not out of a green border. The intervening card is all White border so those Germans can see thru the White borders and into the village. Hope that makes sense 😊
You make this look so easy to play! Complexity 2 of 9! I don’t get the big deal that everyone makes of it. ;) Great start, you can see the action unfolding in the mind’s eye.:)
Thanks for sticking with it Zilla. I think the key is to remember it's a game and we're supposed to have some fun. And you certainly can have fun with this game :)
Great fun so far. One little correction: the A potential contact market in the Open Fields shuold be removed due to the german fire through the card, il I’m not mistaken. Good luck!
Yes I will correct this, particularly as the German mounted HMG applies grazing fire to the card! I'm grateful for your feedback, thanks for watching! :)
Great video series! I'm late to the party but in the third column from left . How are both firing at each other between the hedgerow and the woods when the card borders are dark and not light ? Can someone add some clarity here please?
Great stuff! One little thing: I believe the HMG and the squad should have been placed on different cards, since they were separated by a “/“ (a “+” would put them on the same card). Looking forward to the next episode!
Yes I did realise that later, and I should remove the A PC marker from the open field card 😊. I'll mention these things in the next episode. So easy to just forget edge cases in the excitement especially when keeping up a narrative. Thanks for watching and the great feedback, it's really appreciated! 👍

Is this a house rule? If I look under section 9.1.5 of the manual (physical copy, 2nd edition), it says 'Resolve multiple markers of the same letter in random order.'
