    A topic worth covering. I recall once being taught that the old phrase "action follows motivation" often works in reverse. Sometimes when we just commit to doing something we have set aside or avoided, that once we start, it doesn't seem that bad or even inspires us. I know it has helped me in aspects like music & going to the gym regularly. It takes a mental push to start, but during & afterwards you feel glad you did. Soon it can build confidance & help develop routine.

      I'm glad you could relate to this. Their a weird feeling in this, like, it's easy to think "I'm alone in this" and "this happens to a lot of people" both at the same time. It's good to see that by sharing this, we can lift each other up.

    Thank you very much for the honest recollection of your own struggles with finishing projects and the helpful advice.
    Unfortunately it's the same for me since starting to work with my DAW - Feeling a lot of pressure, regarding the quality to a point where I cannot continue because I despise my inner struggles too much. Relating myself to the work and feeling not enough is definitely a significant part of it.
    I got reminded of different techniques from psychology. Directly related to specific struggles would be WOOP.
    A more broad approach to get distance from exhausting thoughts are defusion techniques from ACT.
    Cheers, really get a lot out of your videos!

    I have this weird obsession of trying to not write chord progressions that haven't been written before, which ultimately leads me to not writing a chord progression at all.

    • @Woochia
      @Woochia  9 месяцев назад +1

      Can totally relate to that. Weirdly, intentionally start a song with a chord progression that "everybody use" can help get out of that. Trying to write something original starting with something common can be easier than to start from nothing at all.

  • @groove_sapient

    Thanks Woochia, very insightful. I think about this a lot too. I came to the conclusion to rid myself of the hurdles and obstacles that get in the way of the creative process, and form a practice that I can keep coming back to. For me that means mostly ditching the DAW and build a "groove station" which is a table of electronic instruments that I can walk up to and perform a groove. Working in a DAW is like sculpting a song like chipping away at a block of marble. It's time consuming, and your mindset always falls into perfectionism which often ruins things. Or at least is lacking a spontaneous energy. Now if instead you just walk up to your groove station and perform something (with your camera recording in OBS) you can develop a library of performances that you can later decide to publish or not. As you get better at your practice of live performance, a certain creative and inspired energy is imbibed in your work that cannot be reproduced with the perfectionist DAW paradigm. I plan on releasing such performances, and would love to see yours as well if you like that practice too. I love the artistry I see in your tutorials and demos. It's such a tease, that I want to see you groove out freestyle!

    • @Woochia
      @Woochia  9 месяцев назад +1

      I can totally relate to that, DAW tends to put you in a perfectionism mindset and that is often more paralysing than anything. Right now I'm working more with to-do lists to push myself forward and not get stuck, but I really like the idea of leaning more on a spontaneous groove machine workflow

  • @monkeyrater

    I hope youre still planning on doing a big music recording tutorial as you mentioned to me before in the comments of a previous video. There is WAY TOO MUCH EDM in this world and not enough recorded live music. Making good tutorials is well within your abilities, no need to worry about imposter syndrome. Also I suggest using Reaper. Its the cheapest DAW, no yearly subscription. Also the trial never expires so its perfect for people who are not sure they want to commit to buying it. And from what I see its a very underrated DAW, easily the most customizable DAW. I would say its equal or better than Pro Tools. I think most DAWs get used for their plugin ecosystem and not for anything about the DAW itself. Just record a bar band playing live in a studio (when I say studio, I just mean in any room with a bunch of mics plugged into an adapter which is plugged into a laptop). And then go through the process of mixing, applying effects and mastering. Most of the production tutorials on youtube just show how to use midi or samples which I think removes the music creation process from the tutorial.

    • @Woochia
      @Woochia  9 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the suggestion. You might like the series of videos I'm working on at the moment: that's a series where I will finish tracks I made a few years ago, so I would retouch the structure of a song, every sounds individually, and maje the whole thing sound better. The idea is to get tips for composition, mixing and workflow all from the experience of a real project.

    • @monkeyrater
      @monkeyrater 9 месяцев назад

      @@Woochia OK, but I hope those tracks are a complete song and not one of those tutorials where you take a bunch of samples and sprinkle them throughout the timeline until it starts turning into a song. I HATE those kind of tutorials. Please, bring back song recording and not song construction inside a DAW.
