Kevin Drew is getting older just like the rest of us. And dealing with the joys and tragedies that it brings. But unlike most of us, he has the ability to channel the experience into gorgeous and personal works of art. I'm referring, of course, to his latest solo album, the fittingly titled Aging. Inspired by a series of recent losses in his life, the Broken Social Scene frontman and his collaborator Nyles Spencer have crafted an immersive record from layers of lush synths, low-impact beatboxes and Drew's earnest, dreamy vocals. Not bad for a project that started out as a children's album. Midway between the vinyl and digital releases of Aging, the 47-year-old singer Zoomed in from his Toronto home for a wide-ranging chat about unleashing his inner child, hand tattoos, the brilliance of Warren Zevon, the next Broken Social Scene album and a lot more.
