I keep our travel trailer toy hauler in a storage space in Sussex NJ and yes it is very true. Keeping your RV out of the elements does help make the life of your RV home longer. Some people think its a waste of time and money because from their experience covers rip off and do more damage then protect. We take our time to cover and also use something you didn't mention or maybe don't use but gutter balls help protect our cover from rips. The first place they rip usually is at the gutters from the wind. Thank you for sharing hope to see you one day camping.

I recently bought an rv. I’m excited. First thing I thought about was the covering. I live in Texas so it’s hot. So definitely want to protect it from the sun as you mentioned. Great video. 👍🏼
I just bought a cover for converted trailer RV that seems to be of high quality! Unfortunately, it started raining before I could get on top so I’ll try it another day. I’ll have to learn how to do this without any help. Thanks for the tips!
Love it! I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel I had built for me at the factory. I have kept it garaged or covered the entirety of its life and kept it waxed. It still has that glassy look from the gel coat! Here in Montana fir my $60k travel trailer, I just bought a cover as the snow, ice and summer uv rays are no joke! But yeah, if you can’t check on it almost daily, I’d be really reluctant to do so knowing they can also cause damage! Great vid 😁👍🏻
We've covered our 2015 Cougar travel trailer every winter season, and the rig still looks like new. No fading or cracking of decals, and the roof is in terrific shape. We got nine winters out of our ADCO cover. We also use an ADCO roof cover during the summer when the rig is parked in our driveway..... unfortunately ADCO doesn't make these RV roof covers anymore. After nine seasons we'll be order a new ADCO cover this summer. We current have about 65K miles on this trailer (Annual trips from upstate NY to Wyoming/Idaho/Colorado/Montana and many annual instate trips to the Adirondack and the St. Lawrence River)
Izzy the heck with those haters. The extreme elements of weather, in our case the hot sun, will ruin things quickly. When you work hard for things you tend to work harder protecting them. Thanks for another great video y’all. Merry Christmas to you, MJ and Jason.
I would agree with you. For us pine needles, bird droppings, sun can really take a toll on the paint. My first choice would be garage, since we don’t have that, cover is the only other logical choice. - Izzy
Nice job on review ! One more point to mention ...the roof material protection. Many of the roofs on travel trailers do not hold up well ??? So again the cover keeps the elements away. You do have to check for Abraision wear on some at top edges...we had to glue metal strips on one of our trailers to protect that area. I keep mine covered all the time that I am not using it, in a completely enclosed carport with a tarp entrance. (You can see it in an early video on my rig.) The sun will age it tremendously. If I did not have the metal shed, I would buy a cover like you described. Another big thing that I have learned, is to keep it away from the ocean. The salt air and sand are murder on the finish. I would never buy a used rig that has stayed at the beach. Good video you two!
Exactly! Great point about the salt water too- that’s one thing we luckily dont have to deal with right now. Thanks so much for watching. Merry Christmas. 🎄 - MJ
YES! Cover your investment. We have a Leisure Travel Van Unity. Our stock cover is made by California Car Cover Co. --- price $399.99. We wash the RV, winterize it and put it to "sleep" covered. The cover stores in a nylon bag with handles. I am 5' 2" tall, 130 lbs. --- I can easily carry the cover in it's bag. We have 8 antique garaged cars ALL have their very own custom California Car Cover's.
We do the same thing. At the start of the season the roof is dry and the paint is shiny. It’s a no brainer for us. Thanks for watching and the comment Izzy
I built tubes that attached to the cover that helped with the task of covering and gave us tie down points. We also set pie pans with charcoal in the RV to draw dampness/moisture out. Now we have a heated building.
I bought a cover for my class A 35’ motorhome. It works great with the exception that I have a couple areas that have ripped-even with the small covers they provided to cover the pointy areas. It is a high end cover, so I was a bit surprised it ripped so easily.
I bought my shelter used for about 1400.00 and tore it down and reassembled it myself with a helper, I did have to add on to the length of it and that cost me another 500.00 in parts. It’s almost closed in completely on three sides now.

I'll never use another cover. I purchased a $400+ vented quality cover for my brand new Voltage 5th wheel. Since it was stored at a facility more than 30 miles away, I couldn't check it daily and the high consistent Colorado winds caused serious paint damage to my RV over the Winter, wore the fabric on the awnings, and damaged one of the vents on the roof. No matter how well I strapped it down (including underneath the RV), it would eventually work loose. Agree with the benefits you cited but I would never use one again unless I could monitor it daily.
I bought my class A from someone and the winter cover came with it. The cover was stuffed into a cargo hold and I had no idea how it even worked. I had a friend help me and first it was a chore just getting it onto the roof and then it took him a long time to undo it and figure out which end went where. Lots of mistakes were made in the process, as we learned. The cover was used and had a tear along one side, which I reinforced with duct tape. I think it is well worth covering because last winter had a lot of downed branches on peoples trailers, from a very heavy snow and ice storm. Oh, I didn't see any mold inside or outside of my RV once the cover came off.
I have a 2013 Big Country Fifth wheel that I uncover for the summer and use for about 3 weeks every year. For 7 moths a year it is covered. It looks like new and I get comments all the time about how new it looks. I see 10 year old RVs that have decals fading all the time. Not Mine. COVER YOUR RV with a cover that breathes.
I agree to cover. We were boaters for 30 years before Rving and still do with the Rv. Reasons are weather damaged to water getting into normal areas freeze opening up cracks for water intrusion. If you have decals will help fading and cracking. Also just like Izzy says all the droppings from trees and birds. It does help if your rig is at your home so you can keep and eye on the straps by keeping them tight.
59 yrs old and just put one on my 28’ toy hauler by myself. I’ve had more pleasurable experiences. If you have anything bigger it’s definitely a two person job. If like me and you have one foot on a banana peel and the other in the grave just have someone else do it for you. I was huffing and puffing. Old age sucks.
You present some good points to consider. We currently live in PA and have a cover we have used in the past, however, this year our solution will be driving south! 🌞
Great informative video. You just keep knocking videos out of the Ballpark. On all good information. I truly understand what you mean by some will hate. I have a Top RUclips Channel and Low RUclips Channel come after this past week. My husband said that I must be doing something right to get those Trolls like that. On a side note. My Christmas Day Video is a very very Special Tribute. To something dear to my heart. Keep up the good work Izzy and MJ. Your videos and channel are TOP NOTCH!!
I'd like to get a premium custom fit cover for my RV but the only one I have been able to find is over 1000$. I don't have that kind of money. So I bought a generic 300$ one from Amazon. Hopefully its good enough; better than no cover
Have a cover on the way for our TT. So tired of needles getting in vents, ac, and gutters while in the driveway. Not to mention the pitch. Putting on cover will save me from climbing on top every week or two. Sub'd, liked video.
Since we weren't going to Florida this year we put in storage, so I'm hopeing it had a nice winter inside.hahaha one more month till I get to see it again. Cost was $700.00 Nov, To April15
You missed a con and that is roof damage. These covers rub through the protective coatings on the roofs. Especially on the edges. I still use mone but every year I cringe a bit taking it off.
Great walk thru guys. Makes perfect sense to me, especially in your climate. You truly have 4 seasons. We have 4 seasons down here too it's just that a couple of them only last a few days! That cover has to save your coach though. It actually looks like one of my t-shirts you got outta my closet. Told you I was a big dude.😜 Must really be tough to have to wait so long to take her out again. In the meantime, stay warm. Troy
I like the way you broke this down. I could kick myself for not getting one sooner, I heard all the cons you mentioned and that stopped me. Big mistake! now I’m dealing with water damage :( Moral to the story ....don’t let divorce stop you from protecting part of your divorce settlement.
Storage was always too expensive. We always just covered it with a tarp. Never had any moisture issues. Always used Golden rods inside for a dehumidifier.
Izzy: I liked your blog on whether to cover or not to cover? Which is why I watched your comment on the subject! It’s too bad you had to even comment on the hate that gets thrown around these days! Sorry you have to deal with it! My wife and I have a 36 ft coach, we had bought a cover for it and used it one season while it was stored in Phoenix Arizona, we live in Colorado which ,weather wise is completely opposite of Phoenix we are bringing it home this year because it’s getting to expensive to rent the space in storage! I am worried about the cold here in the winter for two reasons most of which you addressed in your blog . We have a residential refer in our coach , so we are worried about winterizing it with RV Anti- freeze? Because of the ice maker and water feature. The other was I’ve heard that pex lines with anti-freeze can freeze and break or crack flexible pex even though there filled with Anti-freeze? The other is cold air under the coach! There is a lot of talk about blocking the air movement under the coach by filling in the gaps from the coach body to the ground! Could I just leave the coach cover go to the ground? I’m also worried about varmints , field mice , ground squirrels, & tree rats. They got into my prized 2004 Chevy SS truck and ruined all the wiring! Have you got any insight? I appreciate the fact that you put yourself out there to help those that enjoy Motor coaching as you and your wife do! Thanks for the blog! 👍
Hi! Great video on RV covers. 👍 I don’t know if you will get this or answer the question, but here goes: we live in Quebec, just bought a 31-footer with fiberglass top that we plan to cover when winter comes. Yet, we will be going going to Florida in early March. Our concern: with the cold weather, do we risk tearing up the cover when removing it from the RV or is it flexible enough? And considering the possibility of ice or snow, can this type of cover withstand a lengthy period without being properly folded? While we are away, it would be stored in a non-heated garage. Thx and many thx for your amazing videos! Daniel
Very good video, thank you. I am a newbie with the RV and live in the Northwest where we get snow and cold like you. My question is in areas on the roof like where the AC is there is like a bridge of material from my cover between different high points. This bridge of material is somewhat tight and I wonder if weight of the snow could cause a problem (a tear). Do you ever remove snow from the roof and if so how deep of snow would it take for you to make that effort? Or do you think the material should be able to hold that weight. It also causes low point puddles when it rains and likely to do so when snow melts up there.
AC units are not an issue. Just get the right size cover. The material is water proof so once the snow melts we let the water dry up and take the cover off
Everyone knows covering is better. They say it's not because they're lazy, lol. I've gotten pretty good at covering my 39ft Class A DP by myself. Here in southern CA the sun just destroys things! It pains me to see all the Tiffins and Newmars in the outdoor storage just getting wrecked by the sun!
What is damprid and where do you get it? Our older Avion 5th wheel does not have electricity and wont for over a year while we get our campground ready. Its parked Under the Pines (as will be our park name). And is the highest and the coldest point in Alabama which loses power for sometimes up to a week in the winter. The camper interior and exterior are in pristine condition as its been kept under a pavilion up until the last 6 months. We'd like to keep it that way. TY for the video and response. Im a subscriber and will be sharing.
I had a 1962 black Corvette for years kept it in garage but dust was getting on it. It's fiberglass to but it had lacquer paint on it old school ten thousand dollar paint job. We bought one of these cloth type covers like you have here. I was undecided on whether it better in the elements or with the cover. After about a year an a half we decided to do away with cover an than just clean it once a month. We didn't drive it very much. But that cover will do damage so it has pros an cons. Just my story. I'm not agreeing or disagree just wanted to tell you it's not full prove.
Thanks for the information. We also have a Bay Star, and recently bought a cover for it. Won’t be using it for a while, but sure glad we found it on clearance at the RV show.
Do you exercise your motorhome each month during the off season, if not do you start the engine and generator or move it slightly to protect the tires ?
Good video...BUT: What a PITA. No way I'm going thru all of this. Not to mention DANGEROUS. Plus, even the expensive covers only last a year or two before they self-destruct. My plan: Inspect the roof a couple times per year and touch-up caulk to prevent any leaks. Wash roof 2-3x per year. Wax the sides once a year and use 303 on decals. That's it. It should be good for 10 years or more and then I'll sell or donate whatever remains of the rig. Best plan: find covered storage!
$400 for that? What a bargain. I'm looking at one from RV Cover for a 21 foot trailer here in Canada and they are $299-$359. I have an older Roo 21SS hybrid that I've never been able to fix door leaking. It's actual length is about 18'-5".
Great Video... my previous home of many years had a concrete pad with dump & electrical . We used cover a cover Which kept condition of paint like new. If you take pride of ownership and consider resale value the best investment you can make is a good cover. .on a side note on our new property have no room to store my coach. I purchased a large storage building . In my many years of Rving that has appreciated in value.
Izzy I have a 2022 Newmar Baystar 3124 what cover did you guys use manufacture for the top-of-the-line cover? Was it the link that in your Amazon that’s the cover you used? Thanks I also see that you used foam insulation for pipes on areas where the strap would be touching your RV at the bottom is that correct? Thanks for all your help
Hi Izzy & MJ,,,first off Merry Christmas to you. I fully agree on the cover. Living further north than you, (boston) I have always covered my vehicles, boats and certainly pools and I will certainly cover my new RV. One question,,,,since it is located within feet of your home and I know you have an RV electrical hook,,,when covered do you run anything inside the coach for the winter? E.g. dehumidifier, heat, small light etc. etc. or is it not worth the additional worry of having unattended electricity running within? Just wondering???
Fred Piccinni hi Fred thanks for watching the video and the comment. To answer your question, we do keep the rig plugged into 50 amp all the time. Only thing we keep inside is 3 bags of DampRid. One in bedroom, one in kitchen and one in bathroom. I do like the hanging ones as I can see when it is filled with liquid and change out although in the winter it’s so dry it’s not bad. We don’t run heat or any appliances. Rig is winterized using air to blow out lines and then I run RV antifreeze through all lines and traps. Hope that answered your question. Izzy
I live in it full time because of my job (i don’t plan on moving my rv cause my goal for these next couple of years is saving money, btw its an amazing investment despite the critics) and its stationary constantly. Do you recommend having one of those covers on year round?
@@EndlessRVing awesome. Im new to the rv lifestyle so im doing a learning-as-i-go process. Great video and response time as well as informative video. Looking forward to see your other videos! +1 sub
Should you cover the roof with a tarp if you are going to live in it during the winter where there is constant heavy snow? What if the bottom is closed in does it make sense to cover the roof?
I saw another YT channel where they put up a garage over their trailer. It's a metal framed garage with a covering over it, not a permanent garage. They had to keep the snow from accumulating on it but it held up and kept more of the wind and cold out and protected the trailer. I know you left your comment a couple of years ago so this may not help but maybe it will for someone else.
Hi Izzy, Hope you are still answering old youtube queries. My husband and I bought a motorhome to get away from Canadian winters. Now we can't cross the boarder cuz of Covid. We have tween 4 and 5 ft of snow here each winter. What do you do with snow accumulation on the roof of the RV cover? Patricia
Hey Patricia, it really stinks about the borders. All Izzy and I would suggest is simply sweeping the snow off (or have someone do it for you! lol) Hopefully things get better sooner than later. Stay safe! - MJ
Your videos are valuable - thank you. My wife & I are in the RV research process. Started liking Tiffin, but now Newmar, and leaning toward gas vs diesel. 2 questions: how does the Bay Star perform through mountains & what model do you have? Respectfully, Guy and Carol
We have the 3626. Gas or diesel will handle mountains. Diesel will handle better but there is a big cost in purchase and maintenance. Thanks for watching and the comment
I’ll be putting on my cover soon! 36’ Diesel Pusher 1997 looks great want to keep it that way. You mentioned your cover would fit a DP, can you tell me why...I already bought a cover🤙
Each cover is sized according to your RV. Our 37 foot class A cover would not fit a 45 foot DP. We would need the appropriate size cover. Thanks for watching and the comment. Izzy
Turn it on. Cover does not cover the exhaust of the generator and also has a zipper portion by entry door which allows us access to interior of coach. We can turn on items appliances, etc. Izzy
@@EndlessRVing OK, that makes sense. But you wouldn't run the A/C to put a load on the generator, correct? The A/C is covered and would need to breathe. I just bought a nice 2018 BayStar Sport 2903 and am learning a lot from your videos. Thanks for the great job you do. A couple more questions: 1) How often and for how long do you run the generator and how much load to you put on it? 2) How do you keep your batteries charged for 4+ months in storage? Could I keep it on shore power continuously? I just bought a $400+ cover and plan to do as you do on that matter. Keep up the great work! Stan
We run the generator 1once a month turn on the lights, tv, you can plug in ceramic heaters they have a nice draw. We let it run for 1 hour or so. We are plugged at home so not worried about discharge. If you are in storage I would remove the batteries as they will drain quickly.
Good Info! Best video we’ve seen with pros and cons about covers. We are newbies and about to purchase our first class C. What brand cover did you buy?
Just watched the video, is the cover still holding up ? Same cover or brand ? Are you still covering the rv ? We live in south jersey so we have about the same weather as you. Happy Thanksgiving !!
@@EndlessRVing I see that they have a few different kinds of materials that they are made with one with non woven....and one polyurethane which material is gonna be better as far as holding up durable better with lots of rain and humidity and if course high UV rays ☀️
@@EndlessRVing hey I got my rain bird cover today what did u put over the 4 corners where the rain gutters stick out like a sour thumb...which will poke a hole in the corners I guess what u call RV down spouts
What y’all did it all wrong. Why would you do it that way? Lol I am just kidding. I think this is great information. Thanks for the great video. Y’all just need to go full time with us and you don’t need the cover. Lol Merry Christmas y’all.
Great video. Very detailed as always. We had our first coach for about 10 years and looked like new thanks to the cover. In your opinion, do you think covering a coach when it's 100 degrees out bad for the coach? Thank you in advance.
Hi Louie. We don’t cover the coach in the summer only in the off season. With that said the big thing for us using a cover is protection from the elements especially the sun. I don’t see a reason why the cover would be bad in the summer. Thanks for watching and the comment. Izzy
Awesome videos. Merry Christmas 🎄. I have a question on my class A, the steps are not extending when I open the door. I had the steps replaced two years ago, and I had a new motor installed about 5 months ago. Do you have any ideas what may be causing the steps not to extended.? (it works for time to time, but I notice it’s getting worst) Thank you
Hmm? Are your door sensors making good contact? Is there anything binding on the steps? Is your motor bad again? It could be a number of different issues, that would take some trouble shooting. Give a call to the step manufacturer and they may be able to get you in the right direction. Izzy
Hey guys love your channel! What brand cover should I get. Man I live in Arizona and don't have it covered. I have applied ceramic coating, hopefully, to help. I am worried about scratches etc. What brand do you recommend. Maybe the one you bought?
Good video... nice breakdown of the pros and cons. We do not cover because we use our RV every month and covering would just be a pain in the butt. Wash and wax and keep the rig in good shape is our plan. Thanks for yet another good video.
Well thank you for sharing a great video and now I’m convinced on buying one for my travel trailer

What do you do to prevent moisture buildup?
I agree to cover. We were boaters for 30 years before Rving and still do with the Rv. Reasons are weather damaged to water getting into normal areas freeze opening up cracks for water intrusion. If you have decals will help fading and cracking. Also just like Izzy says all the droppings from trees and birds. It does help if your rig is at your home so you can keep and eye on the straps by keeping them tight.
Yep! And we do keep a close eye on it. Thanks for your comment Tim. 😀 - MJ
So informative!! Thx for sharing.
Good video! we don't use a cover but ours is protected between 2 buildings. All good stuff gotta protect your home.
Thanks! Glad you have a way that works for you. 😀 - MJ
My husband and I are in our 50s and 60s and yes!! We were glad when we were done.
You present some good points to consider. We currently live in PA and have a cover we have used in the past, however, this year our solution will be driving south! 🌞
Keep On Rv'n driving south never hurts!!
Thanks for watching and the comment.

Thanks for subbing. Our cover will be going on this week.

Since we weren't going to Florida this year we put in storage, so I'm hopeing it had a nice winter inside.hahaha one more month till I get to see it again. Cost was $700.00 Nov, To April15
Inside is always the best storage. Thanks for sharing
Izzy
Troy
We’re counting the days til we get her out again!
Thank you Izzy and MJ. We are researching covers for our rv. This gives us great info. , and helps us know we are making a good decision.
Glad it was helpful!
This is the cover we are currently using. It’s excellent

I like the way you broke this down. I could kick myself for not getting one sooner, I heard all the cons you mentioned and that stopped me. Big mistake! now I’m dealing with water damage :( Moral to the story ....don’t let divorce stop you from protecting part of your divorce settlement.
We use a cover every winter. Thanks for watching and the comment
Impressive presentation. I will use all of your advice down here in sunny east Texas; but now, it is 23 and cold.
Thanks for watching Ray

TY! This has been so helpful for me.
Storage was always too expensive. We always just covered it with a tarp. Never had any moisture issues. Always used Golden rods inside for a dehumidifier.
Glad you have an effective way that works for you! Thanks for watching. :) - MJ
3rd season using the cover, no issues. We do use several damp rids inside rig we change out regularly.- Izzy

Daniel
Not a fun task removing with snow and ice on it. Would not recommend.
@@EndlessRVing Thx for your quick response, really appreciate.

Thanks for sharing your experience! - MJ
Can you please share the damage?
Thanks for the information. We also have a Bay Star, and recently bought a cover for it. Won’t be using it for a while, but sure glad we found it on clearance at the RV show.
The cover will keep you coach looking good for a long time.
Thank you for your advice
Awesome video! Thank you!
Do you exercise your motorhome each month during the off season, if not do you start the engine and generator or move it slightly to protect the tires ?
Once it’s under the cover we do not move. We park on rubber mats. Run the generator once a month. Our coach is plugged in at home
need a video on trussing and tarping a class A to shed ice and snow
Do not put a tarp on your RV
How to make a truss for the RV
Out here on the west coast if you don’t cover your RV it will soon turn black from fungus. Also tons of leaves coming off the trees!
Great video, great advice...
Thanks
Lonny Mossey
Glad you like the video. Our rig is under the cover, dry and protected from the elements as we speak!!

$400 for that? What a bargain. I'm looking at one from RV Cover for a 21 foot trailer here in Canada and they are $299-$359. I have an older Roo 21SS hybrid that I've never been able to fix door leaking. It's actual length is about 18'-5".
Thanks for sharing, enjoyed the information.
Thank you

Great Video... my previous home of many years had a concrete pad with dump & electrical . We used cover a cover
Which kept condition of paint like new. If you take pride of ownership and consider resale value the best investment you can make is a good cover. .on a side note on our new property have no room to store my coach. I purchased a large storage building . In my many years of Rving that has appreciated in value.
We agree. Thanks so much for watching! - MJ

Has been excellent so far.
Izzy
do a video of putting the cover on.
👍
I live in it full time because of my job (i don’t plan on moving my rv cause my goal for these next couple of years is saving money, btw its an amazing investment despite the critics) and its stationary constantly. Do you recommend having one of those covers on year round?
You can’t cover if you are living in it. Covering is for when not in use.

Good video!
Should you cover the roof with a tarp if you are going to live in it during the winter where there is constant heavy snow? What if the bottom is closed in does it make sense to cover the roof?
If you are living in it make sure not to let to much snow accumulate on the roof. Thanks for watching.
Izzy
Diesel - PERIOD! There's no comparison! (It's hard to believe you're even considering a gas motor)
Thanks for the info really good
Thanks for watching and the comment Linda.

Not yet Karen we will this season.

Izzy
@@EndlessRVing So the height of the cover, how is that determined?
Merry Christmas and Happy New year
So how do you exercise your generator when the coach is covered?
