I sold off my 43X and my 48 and replaced them with the SS CR920. Usually I think two is better than one, but the 920 is a better choice all around for me.
i have a cr920 combat optics model. I have the Holosun EPS carry mrs green on it. Nice set up. have around 250 to 300 rounds and no issues. I followed the manual and lubed it first where they say and it has been running great.
I absolutely love my CR920 Elite blacked out topped off with Holosun and upgraded Johnny Glock trigger! Thanks for the review and i agree 💯 with everything you stated. Over 3,000 rnds of +P through it without hesitation or issue! Shadow Systems did a great job on this compact and it will replace everything I have for Conceal.
Awesome review man! Was an early adopter of the CR920 and loved the size and feel of the gun. I ultimately sold the gun because I wanted an elite or War Poet for the cool factor. I recently just bought the War Poet CR920, and its my new favorite gun. The trigger in this specific one is even better than the original.
I have the elite all black and I must have gotten a good one, trigger has no grit or sponginess out of the box, hard wall, clean break. Actually better than my XR trigger and shadow systems sent me a complete new trigger assembly replacement for it. No failures or anything yet, added a tlr7sub with 507k and TXC holster - loving it so far 🤙🏻
Thanks for the observation that Glock triggers always start out mushy but improve over time. Saw complaints from other reviewers about the mushy trigger.... guess they didn't put the repetitions through the gun before their reviews.
The trigger is fantastic on this gun, but like I said it’s no exception. It needs pulls to smooth out and get better! Most people shoot 100 hundred rounds and call it quits!
@@HuntFishShootChannel They're almost identical in size but the MC9 has a taller slide that's a good bit heavier. The weight is why I sold mine and kept the CR. The MC9 has it beat bad in price and trigger, but the CR920 felt just as soft shooting. When I put the medium backstrap on the MC9, it pointed as naturally as the CR, which is saying a lot for more--that's rare. I think the MC9s will settle around $369 and the CR combat optic cut is like $619, so you're not getting much for the extra $250...and then I put $290 more in my CR with JG trigger that still is only like 1/4 as good as the MC9.
Well scooped this up after that pistol. This would be my personal choice, in fact I’m carrying it now. I shoot it better but it also costs about 300 more. My reasons are the slide serrations, optics cut system, holster compatibility, iron sights, grip textures and I find it to be a more controllable pistol.
Got a thumbs up from me on the rear sight dots comment. Our eyes don't work on two planes. This ruins front sight focus. So having dots on front and rear can make that more difficult and ruin front sight focus which hurts accuracy
For sure! I have caught some flak from folks for that comment on another video, but you are right. There is no need for them due to how you are supposed to focus when you shoot a pistol. 💪 thanks for watching!
Great review man. Always enjoy your videos. Im wantin this for my carry rotation with my hk vp9sk. I was concerned the 13 round mag wouldnt give a full size grip but it seems like it does now. Thank u man.
Thank you! Much appreciated and glad we could and can make videos you like! it does for sure give a full grip and I’m carrying it right now as I type this 👌
@@HuntFishShootChannel Man that is really awesome! Did you have to change out a spring or anything? Or did yours work just fine straight out if the box? Minus the 200 round break in period of course.
Nope! Ran great out of the box! Slinging Hornady Critical Duty 135 Grain as my carry ammo too! No break in period, but I’m at about 500-600 rounds now.
@@HuntFishShootChannel Man that is great to know! Thank you so much that info. Makes me feel good about choosing this as the edc. Will you possibly be doing a certain round count video in the future on it?
You have become my favorite handgun reviewer. Watching all of these I feel like your the most thorough. I’m debating between the Walther pdp f or the canik mete mc9 or the cr920 for my first conceal carry (have a Glock 22 for home defense) which one would you suggest? Money is not a problem. Also if you a different one you suggest I’d love to hear it. Thank you for what you do
Thank you! We appreciate that Jacob and put in the effort! I prefer the CR920 myself due to how I shoot it and it handles under recoil. Another great option is the P365 series. My recommendation is to Get hands on with each and see which feels best in your hand to start and go from there. Many manufacturers make great guns. The MC9 tho is probably one of the best you can buy for the money!
@@HuntFishShootChannel awesome, thank you so much for the feedback. Went and held the cr920 today feel amazing in the hand. Gonna go pick one up tomorrow. Do you have a holster for it you recommend?
I currently have 2 SS guns(MR elite and MR combat). They are set up the same. I use one for training/classes and one for carry. I've been waiting for all the bugs to be worked out with this one so I can give the micro carry segment a try.
I really like my CR920. I do with the trigger was better. I have about 500 rounds and I have been doing a good amount of dry fire through it. Seems like it's getting a little better but not much. It would just be sweet if the trigger came better out if the box. And I do understand the importance of breaking in the gun. I don't have a problem with that.
Glock triggers have always been like that. If you took the gun apart and polished a few trigger surfaces out of the box it would have that broken in feel but that takes handwork and that cost would likely be pushed to the consumer.
@@HuntFishShootChannel fair enough. It's a minor complaint for me but it's the thing I like the least about the gun. I know other guns have better triggers out if the box like the new Canik MC9. Probably an apples to oranges because of the design differences.
You are correct! I wish it was the case but Glocks trigger design and mechanics are just a touch different than the rest. That MC9 trigger is fantastic!

Sold mine. I got an early one. Couldn’t get it to run no matter what I tried. Sent it into SS, got it back two months later, new barrel/trigger, went through the “break in” again unsuccessfully for another 500 rds. At this point I contacted them and they asked me to send it in again for another 6-7 weeks and told me I would need to break it in a THIRD time when I got it back. I told them I’m not going to waste more money on ammo for a third “break in” on a $850 gun I already tried putting over a thousand rounds through. I was told no returns/refunds/credit. I asked if they could replace it with a new gun, she told me no, I had to send it in again for 6-7 weeks and basically treat it as a new break in when it comes back. I found that unacceptable so I sold it for a loss. On top of all that the trigger was worse than any glock I’ve felt and it gave me slide bite. Unfortunately my first and probably my last Shadow Systems. I much prefer my MC9 and Shield plus PC 3.1” personally.
Similar issues with mine (posted in the comments as well). Shame, as the idea of a "fully squared away" CC pistol from a U.S. company excited me. I have no doubt that other people have good SS guns, but mine simply wasn't. Unfortunate for them as my brother and two friends were excited about it and considering purchasing one...until they shot mine and saw my experiences with it. So overall they lost myself as a future customer...and three other people who were about to buy SS guns. Shows you how damaging letting a bad gun out can be.
@@HuntFishShootChannel well I’m glad they fixed it after their beta testing it on people like me 👍 lol they still gave me the run around after selling me a lemon and refused to replace mine, so they kinda screwed me.
@@oskar6661 I was going to buy a MR920 elite with the new comp and a DR920P after the CR920 too, but I can’t after my experience with the CR920. If they actually fixed it or replaced it it would have been one thing, but no more SS for me.
I just bought one a month ago and I couldn’t get through a single magazine without major issues. Contacted SS the same day I purchased the weapon. Currently waiting to get it back. So disappointed. Don’t think I can ever trust it even if they fix it. Unfortunate because it was much more comfortable than my Glocks
Wow I have the prodigy too 4.25 I've put over 5000 rounds through mine now and not one failure and my serial number is within first 2000 guns. Strange even have a 7lb spring in it from wolf can airrack. So maybe you gust got a Limon or maybe it's you. Just saying.
I’m sure it’s just me. No doubt any issues I have experienced have to be shooter induced…. The pistol has been great and I am super happy with it but it has had 3 malfunctions in 1200 rounds now.
I actually disagree with your remarks on the slide serrations. Sure there's a bunch, but they are all so polished, and 'rounded' smooth that they feel really slippery. My Walther's, Berettas and even Taurus have rough edged serrations that really bite into your skin and give great grip.
@@HuntFishShootChannel yeah man! And actually had the same issues with slide bite as you, angered me enough to the point of wanting to sell it, but kept shooting and kinda figured out my grip for it. I can't state how much I appreciate the deep optic cut to give me a full co-witness with the red dot. Punching out looking for the irons and getting that red dot in the window as a bonus means I never fish around for the dot. Have been waiting for a Glock that isn't held back by polymer-round-reducing magazines. Certainly smitten. Thanks for the reviews and not feeling 'so bought and paid for' like a lot of other channels lately
We will always stay true to who we are! We owe it to the viewer and when issues happen or if they present themselves, they will be shown and noted! I had so much slide bite in the first couple hundred rounds I nearly thought about not carrying it, but I shot it more and it went away and now carrying it in place of my MR920 for the upcoming warmer months and it’s a great shooter. Thanks for watching and your feedback!
I’m really on the fence of buying a Shadow Systems CR920. I love the pistol but I’m hearing and seeing a lot of complaints about them. I just can’t see dropping a grand on a gun that will eventually start acting a little finicky. Can’t trust it as an EDC.
When the CR920 came out or first launched they had an issue with the barrel on some guns. Shadow Systems replaced the barrel on all the guns purchased and changed the barrel design. What you would be purchasing now would be problem free ( most likely, I of course cannot guarantee any gun to be perfect) I would also recommend the foundation series CR920 over the elite and you can find them for about 500-600 bucks
My 2 cents worth. With a carry gun I don't see the need for any optics. Only one more part that can break. With the long term statistics showing the average gunfight distance being like 7 yards (according to the FBI) you are better off just practice hitting a target at that distance (which ain't really hard 😄)
You are still acquiring a sight picture at 7 yards and worst case scenario you have to make a very precise shot at 5 or 3 yards and the red dot it’s just better. It allows for better information processing and target ID. Modern day red dots have come a long way, the likelihood of them failing is slim, of course possible. Thanks for sharing your input!
@@HuntFishShootChannel streching out the arms to get that red dot in sight might not be a good idea if the enemy is in close. I practice point shooting and at close range almost always hit the torso.
Within arms reach will be close quarters retention shooting and not point or instinctual shooting. By all means, do what you feel comfortable and confident with, that’s what matters
In the process of selling mine off. I was pretty excited and bought one on a bit of a lark - a "do all" package, I got the Warrior Poet one with an included optic, etc. On paper, glorious. In practice, I got a lemon out of the box. A ton of malfunctions through 500 rounds. Ended up sending it back to SS. They fixed it, and it's been fine for 800 rounds since the fix, but I simply don't trust it. As a non-Glock guy, it aims as bad as one for me - and I find it exceptionally snappy. I outshoot the CR920 with every other CC gun I own, or that my friends own (Glocks, Walthers, Smiths, and Sigs). My trigger did not break in even after 1300 rounds (and uncounted dry fire). Maybe I just got a serious turd of a CR920 but I went back to a lower capacity pistol simply because I shoot it so much better. On the plus side, someone local is about to get a stunning deal on a CR920 with a Holosun. :D
Damn it sure sounds like you had a turd for sure. Definitely not the case for me and I’m glad they have made changes at this point but sad to see the issues out of the gate!
We've had an exceptionally interesting time with the "break in" period on our MR920L. Serious FTF/FTE "fun". It IS a great RANGE gun...but the reliability on SS guns is so bad I'd never EDC one. Very likely gonna go with a Mossberg MC2sc. Same size...1/2 the price...far more reliable. Quite the $1100 lesson but it is what it is.
We haven’t experienced those problems or at least to any extent. Out of every pistol we own from them, the only pistol which has any FTF was the XR920. It happened two times in the first 100 rounds and nothing since then. And before the statement of they give you guns, I bought the DR920, MR920 and XR 920 from a local store. I have thousands of rounds through their pistols. However, you carry what makes you feel comfortable!
I want one of these to go with my other Shadow Systems guns. However I’m not thrilled with the optic options. I prefer the RMR CC, hopefully the latter will be reconfigured along the lines of the Shield footprint. We shall see. As usual excellent content.😎✌️
My MR920 just came back from repair, again. 1500 rounds and it's the worst trigger I've ever used. The CR920 is so much worse. I'll send them to you with a case of Blazer Brass. I'll send a good 20 year old Gen3 19 for comparison.
Do you know, or did you try, to run 43x/48 mags in it? Including the 15 rd Shield Arms mags? Ive heard you can but might have to switch the mag release? That's one of my big loves of the other SS models is the Glock parts, mags, holster, etc compatibility
No I did not and don’t intend to because those magazines will be longer than the grip on the CR920. The CR920 is a a G43 size gun with that size grip. Hope this helps!
The CR920 was my carry gun until the trigger placement pin broke in half while shooting it at the range. It may have been an isolated event, however I won't carry a pistol with parts falling off.
We don’t delete comments, but depending on what you said, RUclips will hold them for review or not make them post. Besides not concerned with someone criticizing it, we didn’t have issues and still don’t. I carry it off duty and love the gun for a micro compact.
@@HuntFishShootChannel There was nothing wrong with my comment other than I totally disagree with your assessment of the CR920. You deleted the comment.
I’m telling you right now we do not delete comments, there’s no reason to do so. We never have, with the exception of racism and vulgarity because there’s no space for that. Besides it’s ok if you disagree with my assessment of the CR920. It’s my assessment, not yours and it’s being carried right now by me. So if you totally agree with the assessment, speak your mind please.
I just can’t justify this much for a carry gun that isn’t proven and has some reliability issues. It’s also far more snappy than most other micro Carrys. I’ve carried all of them except this one and the shield plus was and is the most accurate and softest shooting out of all of them. My point is since you give honest and great reviews why would one purchase this other than looks really🤷🏻♂️.
In my experience this is not the snappiest of all the micro compacts, has the best optics mounting options, good capacity and competes with the other ones. Has the best serrations and gripping surfaces. Price wise, I routinely see them for less than 700 bucks and they give you some things the others do not. On top of all this, it’s shooter preference. Especially in micros, pick what you shoot best and stick with it.

Thanks for sharing.
Heck yeah! Thank you for watching!
Thank you for sharing your feelings about the slide serrations. Appreciate the input
Does it run Glock mags?
No it has more capacity than standard Glock mags
Still carrying the CR920?
Sure do! Depends on the situation or plans. I still carry a MR920 about 90 percent of the time!
What state are you in, I am getting g ready to order a War Poet?
Thanks David! Of course Trijicon couldn’t just make the footprint the same as everyone else!
My MR920 just came back from repair, again. 1500 rounds and it's the worst trigger I've ever used. The CR920 is so much worse.
I'll send them to you with a case of Blazer Brass. I'll send a good 20 year old Gen3 19 for comparison.
Ok sounds good to us, if they were so bad, why buy two SS pistols?
Hard to believe you get slide bite with every pistol.
I don’t get slide bite with every pistol, but I do get it with nearly all the micro compact pistols out there.
You can always tell the guys who dip tobacco lol
Not saying I haven’t but it’s been quite a few years at this point 😂
Do you know, or did you try, to run 43x/48 mags in it? Including the 15 rd Shield Arms mags? Ive heard you can but might have to switch the mag release? That's one of my big loves of the other SS models is the Glock parts, mags, holster, etc compatibility
No I did not and don’t intend to because those magazines will be longer than the grip on the CR920. The CR920 is a a G43 size gun with that size grip. Hope this helps!
@@HuntFishShootChannel yep absolutely, thanks for the explanation
Glad I could! Thanks for watching!
The CR920 was my carry gun until the trigger placement pin broke in half while shooting it at the range. It may have been an isolated event, however I won't carry a pistol with parts falling off.
Yeah that’s a freak thing, but carry what you are comfortable with!
I ll take my gen 5gen
Ok great! Thanks for sharing
Why did you delete my comment? There was nothing wrong with it. All I did was criticize the CR920. What a guy.
@@HuntFishShootChannel The comment wasn't vulgar or racist. I guess it's just a mystery within a riddle wrapped in an enigma.
Suppose so
👍
💪
@@HuntFishShootChannel totally agree on optics and I do love the ergos. Shine on man …
👍🏻
Junk, bad quality control
Ok
