This is so true! I have a childhood friend that was wrongfully convicted and sentenced to d**th. He's been in prison for 31 years now. A little over a year ago, his appeal was finally voted on, and found that the issues in his case, should be heard in court. The state has been prolonging the process for over a year now, and trying to come up with a reason to keep him locked up, instead of admitting that they messed up. A witness, who was 13 at the time that he and his 13 year old friend testified against my friend, came forward in 2013, and admitted that they lied on the stand, and an innocent man has been in prison, all this time. He admitted that the detective told them what to say, and they did because they were scared. His friend passed away years ago, and he said that he's felt so much guilt, and he had to tell the truth. Every three years, he's been interviewed to see if his story would change, and it never did. The remaining living jurors, told my friend's lawyers that they came back with a guilty verdict, because of the testimony of the two boys, even though there was no evidence linking my friend to the crime. This is just another example of how so many people have been wrongfully convicted.

42 long hard years to get released from prison but Mr Soto's Justice will take another 4 to 5 years before he really receives some compensation. Chicago Police Department needs better standards of conduct thru the ranks. This should be an extremely rare case not a 15 to 20% of the prison population. To receive that Degree from Northwestern University & achieve academic excellence during an undergraduate degree while studying in prison - Magna Summa Laude - incredible stuff.

It's sickening to think they couldn't find the purp, so they tossed it at the first "believable" person nearby, and stole 42 years of that mans life. There is no truly sufficient compensation for the hardships they put him through, the time away from his life they took, the resilience he had to find within himself... I'm so glad he was able to hold himself up through all of that, and find his "justice" in the end. That's a strong man...

I grew up in that neighborhood. My brother and his friends were often picked up for no reason. The police would get mad when they wouldn't find drugs on my brother or his friends. They'd drop them them off in bad neighborhoods where my brother and his friends would then have to run home before getting beat up... Yup, I believe this story, for sure. God bless this man with a long, healthy, free life!

How is the psychological, physical and emotional abuse Mr. Soto endured while falsely imprisoned healed. Such a shame. How does society trust the police? What differentiates police officers from violent street gangs?

It should be that prosecuters are appointed by merit by their collegues and not by people who know shit about the qualities people have other than taslking smooth and raise money.

Everyone that had a hand in this man's wrongful kidnapping and wrongful conviction should spend the same amount of time in prison themselves this would send a message to the judicial system and police and the Crime Syndicate this wont be tolerated. This happens to often. It's time accountability is served in prison by those who abuse their power and fabricate evidence against someone just to claim they solved a case by pinning it on someone who is innocent.

I feel so sad this man had to live like this for no reason. This Government needs to make sure they have the right person in custody in every case. He's educated and mature now so he can turn this wrong into a right for others. May he move forward with a wonderful life with everything he needs and everything he ever wanted to eat! I can only imagine. Trials going on all over this country right now and one especially in Delphi Indiana where it's really questionable if they have the right person on trial. Maybe just to start with he can start showing up and asking questions and bringing attention to some of these trials. He could start a YT channel discussing some of these cases. Bless this man. He is right about them owing him more money than anyone can even think of as a settlement for stealing his life.
