I love that you have the edit in mind when you add the light. Most photographers will go straight for overpowering the sun, which is a personal preference, but also sometimes a big mistake, because once you go to edit, you realize your subject stands out way too much and it's always better to lift shadows than to dim highlights.
@@tranvthuy I use the ad100 pro (which is basically the same as this pro foto a2 pye used) and the 200 pro with the xpro controller. The controller I use doesn’t have phone connectivity but the newest one does. Then for the modifier you can use the angler fastbox almost the exact same set up for probably half the cost.
Besides really digging the final product of the first location in this video, I also appreciated your workflow here. It seemed both the steps you naturally take to obtain the shots you are after, as well as instructive to the viewers of this content. Specifically, I like how you take your first test image without any lighting modifications, then step up the lighting with automatic mode flash, then dial it in with the Connect app, and then play around with various angles and distances from your first test shot. As an early amateur portrait photographer, this is the most useful takeaway from this video for me. Though, I also came here to continue my evaluation of acquiring an A2 + softbox.
I just noticed that if you go to his link for the A2 in the vid description they’re giving a free profoto connect if you buy the A2 in the month of October. Perhaps that’s some motivation for the both of us (and I wasn’t even in the market for a flash until I saw this video 😂)
@@Travisrogers87 it’s what led me to pull the trigger on one yesterday. Though, his video on the ReflexS has me second guessing the comparable utility of the A2.
I've done a little hand held setup like this and I loved it. The ease of use and a very raw and unique look to the pictures. Very cool! Thanks for sharing.
I agree, that said the background audio (Base thump) was distracting to the point of being annoying, and definitely did do the content creator any favours. I've noticed this type of audio used in other videos, I genuinely hope its not becoming a trend that it's just an unfortunate choice of background music . I wish the creator well and look forward to future content but without the annoying background bass thump.
When I shoot, I don't use my phone. So for me I would prefer the remote contros on the hot shoe. I think it would be an obvious manufacturers cost saver to get us to use the app, but will they pass the savings on to the consumer?
Agreed; I stay away from any photo related equipment who relies on phone apps; my phone can discharge, fall down, or became old and incompatible with the newest phone app, or maybe in 10 years the manufacturer would not update anymore the app and I can't use the equipment anymore. Any photo gear I buy (especially with Profoto prices!) must be functional even in 20/30 years, and I bet that app in 20 years isn't going to be available anymore.
*Does it really matter how small the hot-shoe transmitter is, if you have 2ft. octobox?* The "RAW" sooc images looked far better than the desaturated edits.
I have the exact lighting combo (A2 and Click Softbox) and the only issue I constantly have is that the magnets are not strong enough. I've had to replace an A10 because it detached from the softbox and the A2 fell at a wedding. I ended up buying a thin cable to run it over the flash and softbox , it continues to detach but at least keeps hanging from the softbox and doesn't hit the floor. Design should be improved, other than that I'm happy with all my Profoto gear including 2 B10's, A1X, A10 and A2
The SMDV flip box (which is almost identical) has an additional lock button to keep the flash mounted to the box. I personally don't trust the magnets.
Maybe someone can answer this: Is the auto mode from profoto different with ttl? If yes, how does it work, like how does it know the distance to the subject etc.
For something like this I would use a tripod, but that's just me. Also, using the built in flash dialed down a bit would also fill the shadow areas. I like this too but it might be overkill.
Hi Thank you for this great video. Very well explained! I'm currently thinking about what kind of softbox I should buy so that I can be as mobile as you are. What size softbox do you use in the video? Best wishes Boris
I have the Stella Pro Reflex S light. Very compact and powerful and it’s a hybrid light that can be used as a 6000 lumens continuous LED light or up to 9,000 lumen if you use the power supply. It can be put into burst mode and deliver up to 20 fps bursts with no recycling time and 18,000 lux in burst mode. That little hand held light is no joke lol
I use this setup, it is magic. Profoto needs to make lockable positions in remote though. I look with left eye and move remote's position with forehead all the time. It rotates way too easily.
that has to be oc. i don't know the hill trails. it's not rim crest as far as i can tell. could be irvine park for the park shots, but not sure either. the tarantulas are out! :) the pf stuff is very nice, but the godox is way more economical. granted, the trigger system for the pf stuff is nice.
A 4'30 j'aime infiniment mieux la photo non retouchée... d'ailleurs, quitte à tirer autant sur les curseurs, autant ne pas mettre de flash. Merci cependant pour vos super vidéos Pia. Je regarde souvent.
I imagine if flash had two more stops of power (hello much bigger and heavier B10X Plus) there would be less need in shadow recovery. This is example of "work with what you have".
Nice, the first thing I was reacting to on the final shots where, if your going to edit them so saturated and cold you might as well get a Sony 😊.. I’m sitting here with a Sony jealous because I can’t afford a R5 , and your killing the color beauty of canon hurts my feelings 😅❤

This guy always sucks at editing pictures. Just look at the comments under any of his vids. Crazy after all that time he didn't change a thing. Very very bad edits
The raw image's with flash looked magical.
loved her skin tone in the RAWs
Yea that edit kinda ruined it for me
Sabrina should flash her raw image, I bet that would be even more magical

for some reason I like your pictures before editing, can't tell why! Great Channel
Thanks Pye. Your videos are very helpful since you show your whole process through the camp framework. Mucho gratitude my man!
Glad it was helpful!
You are the inspiration for me to help others in photography. You’re just an awesome photographer and a great teacher.
Always thankful for your lessons Pye, learning a lot each time 🙏. Simplest items you make it stand out. Most grateful.

I noticed they are running a sale for a free Connect with purchase of an A2 right now. So for now, at least, they are passing along the savings.
