Potensic Atom Waypoint Mission Demonstration and Flight

- Waypoints are a feature that many drone flyers look for when purchasing a drone. The Potensic Atom includes waypoints and executes them quite well. In this video I demonstrate a waypoint mission with the Atom, and I take a couple of pictures with the drone too. The flight was in mid-October before many of the more recent firmware updates.

Nice demo of the waypoint feature for the Atom. But I wish Potensic would clean-up the signal issues, horizon issues and RTH height issues and get them working correctly before worrying about things like waypoints. Great video Marcus, thanks for sharing.

Looking to buy a drone, and so far so far Potensic Atom 3 is in the lead. In waypoints, can you set a point of interest that the camera will focus on throughout its path? Your video is much appreciated.
Marcus, I don't know any other RUclipsr who has dedicated so much time to this little Potensic. It's a feature packed little drone, and Potensic could really improve on it in their next version. It's funny, I hardly ever read my Instagram messages, and low and behold, there was a message from Potensic asking me to do something for them. TBH, this wouldn't be my strong suit.

Hello from Sweden, i saw that you have some problems with the height when you set RTH. If you taket a look above the minimum return altitude settings there is a smal arrow pointing down. If you click on that you get a smal checked box that you have to uncheck to let the drone use the hight you want to use at RTH

For the $300 price, this seems like a good intermediate mini drone for the hobbyist. Obviously the Mini SE is better but if this one doesn't have geofencing, I'd get this over the SE. I'd also look at the Fimi in this class before making a final decision.
15:32 So far the Hubsan drones are pretty much the only ones that will let you complete waypoint missions beyond the advisory limit.. Love my HZMSE 😉👍 I was almost thinking about this little Atom... Maybe the Atom 2 Pro 🤷
Had the same trouble on return 2 days ago...a real fight with the drone to get it to land manually. Typical when it happened, a dog came to say hello and was fighting to land manually when the battery was low, without the pooch having the opportunity to chew it up. And the onscreen boxes are a pain, as they are right across the screen and the only way to get rid of it during a flight is to go into settings.
Did you solve it? I also had the same problem last week twice :/
Quirky drone, Marcus, but I always enjoy your demos of brands other than DJI so I won’t be tempted to buy one of those “others.” Oh, for the beautiful day. By the end of the day here, January 12, 2024 I will have about 14 inches of snow on the ground from three snowfalls this week. Cheers, buddy.

Good video! Of course there will be little glitches, especially in these less elite drones. But, I just got this little beauty, with the "fly-more" package. And I love it!
Also, from my research, and after looking at many reviews on various drones, near this price point, I think the next best thing is probable going to cost anywhere from 200 to 300 dollars more than this little drone costs.

I just wish the waypoint set points offered THREE extra options: (1) Allow the setting of a radius from 0 to a few feet to obtain smoother transitions; (2) Allow for an "action" to occur at any one of the points, like STOP for a photo or rotation of some kind; and (3) Allow a height transition between points. That is LOT to ask, but I think a firmware update or two could do it (and if they DID, this drone would sell like crazy, if it's not already doing so. Just sayin'. By the way, there is an add-on control app that does these things but only for DJI (it's called Litchi).

I was going to ask this very question . Waypoints are great but a bit ‘stop, change direction, go!! I was hoping there was a feature I hadn’t yet found to make the change of direction smoother. Seems there’s no such option, yet.
There's people practically all over RUclips flying this drone almost 2 miles if they push it. But they are using their smart phone and joystick. It seems like your mic was jamming the signal. But could be your headset too. I have one and I can atest it is amazing for the price

at 16:50 you mention changing the gimbal angle while flying to waypoints is that manually done while flying or setup ahead of time?
...Does adjusting the angle break you out of automated flight?
Some drones only allow up and down tilt while using waypoints.
I've seen how the Fimi X8 can be aimed towards a "point of interest" while flying waypoints... is that combination of features possible in the Potensic?
You can point the gimbal up or down. I'm not sure if this one has POI for waypoints.
You alter the gimbal and the drone height while flying along waypoints without breaking out of the programmed route

Thank you! I use the DJI mic system and then add the audio in post production.
Thanks for the videos - I have ONE (yeah, right) more question to add to the comments: How on Earth do you get MAPS to show up on the App? In particular, can you preload a map to your device the day before you head out to fly? May be a dumb question, but I cannot find anything, anywhere that discusses this -- not even the user manual. It just states in passing, "click of the map." I seriously cannot find ANY reference to HOW the map gets there or just as important, can a map be preloaded from online (Google Maps) the day before as with DJI and others. Thanks again and feel free to say I am a Dummy 😋

What I am asking is (keep in mind I have not set this drone and its App up) HOW the map gets there onto or into the App itself. That is, does Potensic Pro have its own mapping sub-app similar to Google Maps or Apple Maps or Mapquest? AND can you preload it for the place you will next be flying? Apologies for being such a pest - just looking for answers before I get the drone running.

I cannot remember if the Atom has POI or not. I know the Fimi Mini 3 does.
I do admire the waypoint feature. I wish that my Air 2S had it. Is the dialogue box during landing really non-cancelable? I kept wondering if you could tap somewhere else on the screen to make it disappear. Does putting your finger on it allow you to drag it to a different part of the screen?

Just ordered an Atom 4K and waiting for it to arrive. Do I read those on-screen buttons/icon in Waypoint mode correctly in that you can save and retrieve a flight path? If so, how accurate does it reproduce the flight path? I’m thinking of a lower altitude, say filming roof top flyovers with before and after Solar installation, so you could seamlessly blend/wipe between before and after. I assume it wouldn’t be pixel-precise aligned, but alignment could be adjusted in post-production.
I've never tried saving a waypoint mission with this drone. If you are considering a commercial use case like you describe you're much better off with a commercial product.
Another nice feature to have in this context would be the ability to record a flight path (including gimbal tilt settings/changes) for later replay. Think for instance filming the same path/set at different seasons of the year. As for the waypoint editor, it would be nice to turn sharp corners into rounded corners, so that the camera so to say doesn’t fly into the corner and then abruptly turns around/changes direction, but rather flies a small curve (precisely: Use the set waypoints in a B-Spline handle fashion).
Return to home when disconnected from the phone,, it is progamed to go to maximum return height,,,, because it is disconnected it doesn't know what you programmed on the phone,, for safety sake it gos to maximum height. I've heard you say that in other videos. Please explain if I am incorrect!!
Yes, that is exactly right. You can set it in a secondary menu in settings, but you must reset it before each flight as it reverts to 120 meters with each power cycle.

I have a question, I have a Potensic Atom 3 gimbal drone and 1 motor doesn't start, it tries then stops and I get a Warning to make sure there's nothing obstructing the propellers. I've replaced the arm and problem persists. Is there any way to factory reset the drone?
Thank you! There is no reset that I know of. You may want to contact Potensic support.
User manual page 20 states that when signal lost if the "Return" option is selected it returns at 120m not the normal RTH altitude that is set....

Were I live I'm up in the mountains I can reach 7000ft with not 1 glitch Wich is amaizing I'm super surprised and happy with just how awsom this little drone is.

Did the off-kilt-erred horizon issue ever get resolved on the Potensic Atom?
Yes, I think it's pretty much solved.
Isn't the return to home altitude supposed to be higher when it performs return to home due to loss of signal than when you just manually perform the rth function with the remote or aap?
The Atom is different than any other drone I fly. You have a separate place in the app to reset the Loss of Signal RTH altitude.

I just watched another video about the Atom SE (I just got one too) and the person said that the iPhone is best with airplane mode on. Android seems to be OK.

I don't know. 🤷♂
I'd say yes. The Potensic App is what makes the phone connect to the drone. The App says: iOS 11 and newer needed. A quick online research delivered that all iPhones 5s and newer will at least support iOS 12. The Potensic Atom comes with three connection cables: USB-C, Micro USB and Lightning Connector for iPhones (so it would be iPhone 5 and never).
The resulution of the Video Signal shown on the display is HD (720p). Easy for your iPhone 6s. The recording quality of the drone is way better: up to 4k at 30 fps.

Should have illustrated the ability to save your Waypoint mission to fly the exact mission again in the future.
I believe, or correct me if I’m wrong (sure would like to be wrong), but saving them isn’t an option with this drone.
Is this the newest drone that’s coming out or trying to compete with DJI ? And is it an American made drone? because the technology that American made drones are trying to do doesn’t quite stand up to DJI

What just happened to you it's happened to me but lost connection the app got disconnected on it's was clear day went connect back to the drone it's was up 326 feet high I had set up to return 115 feet high that s wired about this drone
I found out that they have a different setting for loss of signal RTH. I agree, it's weird.

Turn off the mike... and also when you lose connection,,,,the drone has no choice but to go to max height , remember at this point it is not receiving data from the controller, it doesn't know where it is, only where it is going!!

i dont get paid on youtube. Im very happy with the Atom.. I almost pulled the trigger on the Cfly mini.. i was looking for over a year before i bought ..I've had no troubles with the Atom. Your doing something wrong. Or your paid to push dji product's
I tot potensic had addressed this for all modes in their latest updates? I saw a video from another user and he also made reference to you
