So glad I found Alex here. I’m going to do some of his other Tutorials. Particularly grateful for the way he explains his color choices. And what they are.
Sir, within watercolour circles, there can potentially be much debate about which tape to use, with lots of differing opinions. Some people have pretty fixed ideas as to what works best, usually based on their own experience. Often, it has a lot to do with how well, or otherwise, a tape peels away from your paper once a painting is finished. For myself, I use here in the UK a wide, brown parcel tape that needs wetting. I use this as, personally, I always stretch my paper. THIS is why the person asking most likely asked her question, I'd venture 👍
As an artists of 80 plus years, I agree with you. Some people never learn to figure things out for themselves. I'm guessing you paint size you are here and we'll aware that tapes can make a difference; Although, people today can't seem tolearn to trust their own opinion. For me the goofy question was, do you view your reference photos digitally or from film? As if it matters. As if changing what you view your photo on suddenly advances ones skills. I grant we can learn much from others, but at some point one must rely on practice, practice practice and their own inner voice. Otherwise, we aren't individuals. Just faint shadows of those whom we parrot.
7 months late, I am finding this. Alex is an inspiration for me! Love his work. Wish he had more tutorials available.

Perfectly reasonable question.
