These devices are very good for people with limited mobility who cannot stand at a stove and cook in a conventional way. Have shown my patients with limitations the smaller waffle maker, egg steamer, Geo. Foreman grills, and the breakfast sandwich maker. One or more of these devices have improved their quality of life.

They will be bought up by special needs catalogs and this $40 item will become $120. They sell old stock push button microwaves from the 80s and 90s for hundreds. Ones that were originally $59 at Walmart. And they stand behind nothing they sell. Watches that last two weeks…too bad for you.

If it could do two sunny side/over easy eggs at the same time maybe, but it's rare that I only cook a single egg. Seems easier to just toss a couple eggs in a warm pan and turn it off with a lid over it or something if you really want to be able to walk away. With a few more customizable options though, this could be really useful for a lot of people. Maybe they could make a double unit or something with a few more options. I'm also curious how much egg size changes the results.

  • @OneWildTurkey
    @OneWildTurkey 4 месяца назад +18

Unless you let the unit cool down to the same temp between uses, the extra heat to start with may be making the difference in how well it works.
The price - puts it outside what I'm willing to pay. I've already got a microwave, so I got some microwave egg cookers that were $6 each and they let me select how well done the eggs are by the timer and power setting on the microwave. If I want poached eggs, I put a little water in the bottom and if I want fried eggs I put a little oil in the bottom. They turn out just right every time. And they're dishwasher safe.
    Almost forgot - Great channel!

Totally agree about the heat. Love the concept; not the price point. Sometimes I don’t want to heat up the stove for a simple/light meal

  • @TheNiteNinja19
    @TheNiteNinja19 4 месяца назад +8

Edit: After watching this I got it. Here's my observations:
    PREHEAT IT!
I usually let it run a cycle on setting 3, then after that, sunny side up makes the perfect dipping eggs every time. Usually I can get 2 done by the time the toast is up and ready to be done. Requires very little cleanup, and takes up very little space so when I get home from work, I can make a quick 2 eggs and toast without any hassle and enjoy the rest of my free time before bed. No pans, no messy butter, no dishes, no fuss. Worth it to me.
I just use canola oil nonstick spray, small spurt to each side. I also do like the indent that keeps the yolk in the center.
Original Comment: I like this. Much cleaner than microwaving an egg in a ceramic mug which is what I do when I need a quick egg made.

  • @Jamesnebula

I can definitely see the merit of a gadget like this. I often have a single egg with a meal. It's all about attention span. It's easy to cook an egg but you've got to watch it the whole time and possibly flip it. To just not be able to think freeze you up to prepare other food items. I use a mini frying pan and a lid but you have to watch it that whole time.

I like that product. That's a perfect way to get an egg or two cooked for an egg salad sandwich. It's flat so it's easy to chop up. There's no waiting for water to boil nor peeling of eggs after an ice bath. The egg white doesn't look fried. Minimal cleanup. If you just want an egg to snack on for a hangover it seems perfect. I want to buy this right now tbh. Seems like 3:13 is the perfect cook time for a poached style egg. This is a dream for a busy morning breakfast sandwich. For a single person or maybe a couple who are on the go alone this would be nice. Or better yet college dorm this would be a good thing for quick egg sandwiches.
My son loves eggs and he had me teach him how to cook all his favorite things with eggs.
He would have a fried egg sandwich for every meal and not bother him a bit lol.
I do wonder if you sprinkled bacon bits or a few slices of ham under the egg if it would mess up the timing bit it could be useful in certain situations.
Oh another good idea. It could easily be packed in suitcase for folks who have to work away from home.
My hubby occasionally has to go out of state for a good 7 to 10 days for installation of their big relay boxes or to troubleshoot problem installation.

Most times there is a microwave and fridge in the room and something like this might come in handy.

I think true sunny side up is somewhere between the first and the second attempt.
The yoke has to shine through bright orange/yellow like the sun.
The second one had the yoke muted too much. The first attempt hat too much of the white stuff uncooked still.

I like my egg whites over cooked and my yokes runny. I usually separate the yoke and add it after the whites are nice crispy around the edges if I'm doing it in a pan. If I'm in a hurry, the microwave, 45 seconds works just fine and I'd save $40 bucks.🍳😊

I think this product has its place in certain sectors. Dorm room or someone who travels for extended stays in hotels maybe. I’m thinking it may be nice for a young adult out on thier own for the first time. Maybe. But I wouldn’t give $40 for one unless it was a gift I was giving. Nice review as always!

I have one of the earlier models. It doesn't have the dip in the middle. They must have never changed the instructions after they improved it. It cooks the yolk usually to one side. I took it to a hotel that charges for breakfast and it works great in the room.

As you pointed out, one is stuck with their settings. One work-around would be to vary the temperature of the eggs: right out of the refrigerator, the eggs might be less cooked than at room temperature. Another way to have them be more runny eggs is to let the uncracked eggs pre-soak in water for 1 hour so they are rehydrated to the fullest.

Can you also buy the dash mini pancake maker for $13 an compare the 2 using the same time allotments? I don't want to spend $40 if I can get the same results with a cheaper product and the timer on my cell. Also can we get the same or close results using an airfryer and mini silicone or parchment paper cups, if we know the temperature the eggs fry at?

  • @sdb9884

Pity they aren’t available in the UK. I’d make room for one of these in my little kitchen corner. I’d be curious to find out what happens if you put in 2 eggs and cook them on, say, ‘1-egg well done’ setting. Do the 2 eggs come out with softer yolks?

  • @MrTmarsden

I've used The griddle maker which is similar to the waffle maker mini. The egg maker is a good idea for those who have a tendency to forget that they put something on and it shuts off automatically. That might be worth the $40. Other than that, The griddle does the same thing.

This might be a good product for me. In my house (5 people) it can be hard to find the right pan and lid when I want to make an egg or two and I would eat more eggs if it were simple like this. It probably would have been better to just have a strait adjustable timer so you could just make it what you want. Like eggs can cook differently if they are small, large or extra large so in my case I buy extra large eggs and after a few uses (timed) I would know the perfect setting and would likely write it on the unit with a silver sharpe.

  • @retluoc

It cooks smart eggs? Maybe the egg did come first. 😄
    Ok, no more jokes 😀
I agree with you, I don't know why the first one was underdone, but I think it needs to be pre-heated (like you said).
The second one already had a pre-heated surface, so it may have been slightly overdone.
Yep, the second run of sunny side was better when warm.

I always look for how the clean up is before I even look at any reviews on the cooking experience. If I can't clean it when the plates can be removed then the rest doesn't matter to me. I also do not see my option for OEM on the unit; I dislike sunny side, but I like dippy eggs. It looks intriguing though. Can you stop the cycle such as if you run 1 twice to get my version of eggs? Or are you forced to be there for the full time?

Looks like a great product, does what it says, should be good if you use the sunny side up mode without contents just to preheat it, but personally it would not be used in my house. We all eat sunny side up, so imagine making 3 x eggs for 3-4 people, it would take ages.
