Many years ago I used to do calligraphy using real gold leaf having written/drawn the letters with the adhesive on a dip pen. The "tricks" we were taught were to use plenty of gilding adhesive so that you got a sort of raised effect, which flattened a bit when dry and just before applying the gold, hold the paper close to your mouth and huff a few breaths onto the area then quickly apply the gold leaf - it worked every time. I've used the same technique with imitation gold leaf, and foil transfer, and it seems to work well. I suspect that the watercolour paper absorbed a bit too much of the glue to work well with the foil, but the real gold is softer and probably thinner so works better. Anyway, your results were good and I shall now root through my 'discarded' art to see if I can resurrect any pieces with the judicious use of gold foil/gold leaf!

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to try that!
This looks crazy, might have to give it a go myself ☺☺
Great experiment! Thanks for letting us know how it turned out.
Thank you! Cheers!
Those turned out beautifully! The gold is a gorgeous accent on the pieces you showed
Thank you so much!
Love seeing and learning the new techniques . Thanks
First, love your watercolor choices, so pretty together❣️❣️. The foiling is interesting. I love anything with the metallic in it🤎🤎🤎
Thank you!
Using the back of a spoon burnishes it better.
I'll give that a try
I always burnish with a smooth pebble that works well x
Thanks, I'll have to try it!
Fascinating, thank you 🙏
Would an old credit card work better?
Maybe, I might give it a try when I get more foil.
Maybe leave the glue tacky not dry
Thanks, something to try!
