Hellooooooo Jazzmentlists! So this was a LOT of work!!! I transcribed Vince's solo at the bridge - and its smokin'. Really fun to play. I wrote out the arrangement and produced the backing track for you to practice your trio skills. So have fun with this one. I scoured the internet to see if anyone had the solo at the bridge, couldn't find it. I think this is the only one that exists - so enjoy!!! And as always, please leave comment or hit the thumbs up - or this video will never be found. The more you interact with the videos, the better they do in RUclips search. I appreciate you for doing what you can to give this channel a boost. This channel is 1.5 years old now. And we are trying to get to 10 000 Subscribers. I still need all the help I can get - Thank you!! 🙏 - Paul Tobey
I just started piano again after years of switching back to guitar. I spent most of my time using the piano for music theory and posted 1 song I learned then moved back to guitar a few years ago. The piano stayed in my room untouched for some time but I all of a sudden got motivation to try again. That being said! These kind of tutorials by you are my favorite! Piano helped me further visualize chord voicing and names of notes! Now, I’ve found I’m quickly making progress on piano because I already know the names of notes and minor music theory!! I still have a long way to go! This is so fun! Hope u keep making videos!
@@ascentiall That's great 👍. I love these types of life stories. It's so good that you can connect with music again in a way that keeps you motivated. Keep going 💪
Thank you for transcribing this. I played Skating for a Low Bar performance last Sunday 12/03/23. So happy with it I looked for Christmas is Coming and what do you know….You did another video! 🎉🎉❤
Love this! I've been playing this for years. Thank you for the Bridge! I prefer to play the left hand like Vince does on the main hook. He does not change it throughout the song.. You have it close... but i think you missed the plot. Also I have the bridge in C on the Xmas recording.. thank you again!
Hey Clark ...I believe I played it in the original key. I transcribed this one...so I don't think I would say too far from the original. I'd have to listen to be certain. But I'm on my way to a sound check. I'll circle back in a couple of days.
Yes I agree that every take I've heard has the solo with chords C, F and G. I bought your solo transcription and backing track. Great stuff but so wish it was true to the original.
I have a quick question, I'm a beginner, so go easy on me. Haha, I notice the song is in the key of Eb, but with the treble clef, the E note that's played in the intro isn't said to be flat, is there a reason it's not stated?
It's because any E's would be flatted because of the key signature which is stated at the start of the very first clef. Hope that answers your question.
The bit at the end where the right hand rolls the A flat B flat and D flat, I still struggle with. Not only is your left hand on the off beat, but the first time through the right hand starts on the off beat, while the second time through the right hand plays the same line starting on the beat. You couldn’t design a more complicated rhythm if you tried.
So I've got the Artist's Transcription book from the Hal Leonard company, which I wanted in large part because of this song, and it's got the solo in it. Problem is, it has these chords on the left that my hand isn't physically large enough to play, and if I split them between the left and right the solo remains impossible because I'm supposed to be high up on the right hand at the same time. Very disappointing, particularly after getting a pretty good handle on the non-solo sections. I'm going to do some self-care and give your transcription a go instead, it seems a little less punishing.
I've always felt that if you don't have natural rhythm, piano is probably not going to be for you. I know it sounds harsh, but it's true. There are lots of other aspects about playing the piano, but rhythm is probably 90%.
There are a lot of vocations where one needs some innate skills or talent. Something that gives the human an inside advantage. Not everyone can do manual labour on a bridge for example - some people have an amazing ability with balance and heights. Some would pass out standing on the edge of a steel beam at 100 feet in the air. It's not harsh. It's human wiring. We are all wired differently. Passion, purpose and our level of deep commitment determines our outcomes.

I thought the bridge was in C in my version - I figured my ear was just WAY off.
This is wonderful thank you for all the Vince guarldi tutorials! Midway through my first year of piano and I love jazz piano! Thank you!!

Closest I've ever seen anyone do this solo - awesome work! Is it my lack of expertise or is your solo a couple tones higher than the original?

Hello, do you have a bass guitar part?

Hi Paul! Great tutorial. The solo was also transcribed by this kid 3:05

Hi! I just sent you a DM on instagram with a question about this tune. Thanks!!
