Rubbish!! 😂 It's content that not only makes people think about what they need in their van, but also question and improve your designs by the replies that you are getting from your viewers ie using neodymium magnets ...win win situation mate!! Woohooo!! 😉👍
I used 2mmx20mm N52 Neodymium super strong magnets £4.99 off ebay? Made a boobbys job of it! Fantastic job there Mel enjoy your adventures from BIGMICK🇬🇧
This looks brilliant Mel, most people cover them in material but i think it helps to blend it in with the rest if you use the carpet. Had me laughing at the end 😂 thanks for making me smile today xxx
Did mine yesterday, except I mounted it on plywood, held in place with 3 aly angle , 2 fixed one on magnets. Works great. Sits behind cupboard when not in use.
20%tint Mel, the lower the percentage figure the darker the glass, 100% is clear and 5% is what's commonly called Limo, good idea, why not use magnetic strip, may have been easier and more effective
Yeah, like we didn't see that cut at 8:18 just before you got the paper ball into the bin!! =D Thank you for taking the perfectionism and millimeter tyranny out of van converting - it's refreshing to see your 'good enough solutions'. And, honestly, they look damn good too.
Mel what i thought you were going to do if you can picture it is...... Sandwich the insulation inbetween both layers of carpet at the same time with a glued overlap on each side about 30mm. You can glue in the magnets into the 30mm border then.
You cheeted mel, lol. Video editing to make it look like a hole in one. Great video as usual, now starting our build and these videos are proving invaluable. Thankyou!'
Hi Mel if you buy a cheap motorbike tank. Bag you could use the magnets from it there super strong as they stop your bag flying off the tank at high speed. Look on eBay for a second hand one or give me a shout as I have an old tank bag could always try and get the magnets out
Got my 3 windows in Mel so this idea will definitely come in handy I was doing the wiring this afternoon and it was like being in a greenhouse I`ve got the same van as you but I`ve put the door window in full panel after the door and full panel opposite the door so I`ve only got the panel drivers side rear that's for the headboard keep up the good work
Nice shot Mel, it looked short, bit more of a celebration next time please, great job with the blind, its not easy getting a good fastener system is it, i use velcro but some still come unstuck, great vid, thanks for entertaining and informing us all, regards, David.
Hi Mel look at Amazon there is magnetic strip self adhesive GAUDER A+B Magnetic Tape | Magnet Strips for Fly Screen and Mosquito Net | Self Adhesive Magnet Roll Side A and B hope that helps.
My m8 had a van with tinted windows he used it for a year without closing the curtains thinking no one could see in at night as he couldn't see out , the look on his face when I showed him how clear people could see in lol
Hahaha that’s funny I remember my ex wife thinking the same I was shocked walking back to the van and seeing her completely topless getting change lucky no one else was around pmsl 😂
I did a similar thing in my van but I used some very strong magnets from Amazon, 20 square magnets for a few pounds and they work very well. They also hold my curtain up against the wall and that's through the material and van carpet. You need a lot more practice with your throwing technique Mel. 😎😁😂
I was thinking about carpeting over my rear quarter windows but using that black acoustic adhesive flooring onto the glass first then carpeting over the entire window and frame as i only need my sliding door windows and rear hatch ...what do you think would it be ok to do that or would it come off ....im not sure .... Great channel btw
Use Velcro mate, glue Velcro hook double-sided on the metal and glue Velcro loop, also double-sided on the window side of your insulated panel. I know because I made the same mistake as you did, and even tryed to stick magnets on the metal surface of my Iveco windows. Didn't work and it never will unless you maybe use those expensive silver colored magnets with much higher strenght. I say put your money on Velcro, quit inexpensive and keeps on holding, again and again. Suc6 Carlo
Going to use this idea on my touring caravan and make these for the roof lights, top work Mel lets hope we get out once this virus packs its bags and does one
Why not cut a piece of plexiglass and cover the window. Double pain and still let the sunshine in on cool days then cover it with your custom cover when the weather is hot. Some insulation and draft elimination.
Hi have you used Dodo mat over the whole van to insulate or have you gone with the standard board that every one seems to use. Cheers. Russ. I've just subscribed
Armchair Outdoors Smith Hi Russ thank you for your support really appreciated I only used the dodo mat on my two side panels to maximise the with of my bed the rest I used kings pan and recycled plastic I have made videos about this and I’ve made a play list for this build so you could if you wanted to go have a look at that and you’re be able to see the complete build stay safe and well thanks again 👍🤓👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld hi Mel a quick question I have the chance to buy a 2001 sprinter chain driven self build I'd have to make it mine by rearranging its well maintained with 166 on the clock for 5k whats your thoughts I'm trying to get some freedom back. Well after covid 19
I am curious. Are you expecting the reflective surface to work ... because it needs an air gap to "reflect" radiated heat. If there is no gap then the insulation will conduct heat reducing its effectiveness. I see this over and over on van conversion videos ... cover the walls with reflective insulation then place wall panelling directly over the top effectively removing the "reflective" benefit.

Your carpet will get wet with condensation. I used black sticky backed plastic on the glass side.
What insulation did you use for your Van Mel? Have you got a video for what you did? My head is spinning with so many different opinions etc😜

technically you dont need to glue them to the van, you can just put them on top of the other magnets and glue them straight to the fabric.same effect.
