Rajat Parr-esteemed sommelier, wine director of The Mina Group, and co-owner of Domaine de la Côte and Sandhi-knows a thing or two about the food and wine of Santa Barbara wine country. Throughout the evening, Raj takes our taste buds on a journey around the world: grapes from Burgundy, grilled avocados and fresh wasabi from California, Mexican-inspired kati rolls from India, and 80-year-old apple brandy from Normandy-all from this picturesque coastal region. And as a bonus, he manages to make road sodas classy.

not even copious amounts of wine could make these people interested in each other.
xD
😂
Hospitality can’t be taught in a class, service is in your blood🍍I love it!
I love how they all work together at the end, instead of one drunk dude making it all!
an awkward bunch
That's literally just an avocado slapped on a grill with a side of wasabi.
Bryan Liang best shit ever created by "man" lol and his favorite dish...serious delicate palates or just overwhelmingly pretentious
Bryan Liang probably like $20+ too
“Best dish ever” ha
Sandhi doesn't mean collaboration, it means joining. It is used in the sense of a grammatical joining between two words, never as a joining or collaboration of people to do something.
🤪😆
Da home cooked food looked better than all the resteraunt food
Raj had out me on to many beautiful wines
“You know me and chickpeas, big fan” 😵
I definitely dont want that guy around when im drinking wine...
just those two talking about wine all night! id shoot myself
Talented people tasting some really amazing wine. Not a bad episode. Nice to see wine centric videos. A nice view of the restaurant scene in Santa Barbara as well. Blessings ChefMike
I just lost 2 shades of my brownness..... time to watch some breakfast club
Very chill episode. Actually kinda refreshing. For a second, I thought this episode was going to be slow...
Whoah! this episode of Chef's Night Out was pretty Wild!
Raj takes "wining and dining" to the next level.
Munchies this is boring as fuck!!
Boooooring
gustavo3379
Everyone in this episode seems soo robotic. No chemistry at all
There's a reason Santa Barbara pushed Elliot Rodger over the edge, the people there are insufferable...
😂
Lmao
This food and wine looks delicious. They are cooking their butts off!
Rajat Parr - the legend!
The feeling of this one was pretentious
Wow grilled avocado so exciting!
don't skip leg day, bro
I like the sounds ...Indi max!
*SCROLL DOWN and see so many dislikes*
So happy. I'm glad I'm not the only one.
This is a great show
Los Olivos is 20-30 minutes from Santa Barbara but my hometown Lompoc is a badass little town.
What an exciting personality. His enthusiasm is so great. Like watching a shit float in the toilet.
Sommelier kinda pervy/cheesy
Best thing about the whole episode..... the rice pudding. 😢
You can’t teach hospitality says the man who learnt hospitality in Calcutta. Perhaps I misunderstood what he said in the beginning.
What an awesome episode. .
I'm glad munches has explored a bit... But let's bring it back to NYC
Wait where was this filmed?
Hi Raj good show I believe I had some wine with you and John Kapon many yrs ago.Fellow Indian ,my name is Don. I am subscribed!
mmm...send me some of that wine plz and that desii taco yummy
Awkward..? If not the alcohol I don't know what was holding this bunch together.
SIDEWAYS: THE REALITY TV SERIES
Pakistan I drama
Badnam
When nobody in the comments know how fucking amazing raj is 😂 this dude is a god in the wine industry and you guys think they’re uptight or “posh” because you have no wine education 😆 amazing video, great to see raj in his element
He is practically sitting on that poor woman when they are in the car.
Lompoc, my hometown.
The smug elitism on display here is rather alienating for us joe lunchpale folks.
Oh god. Who exactly is being smug or elitist?
Santa Babe represent!
Question: are all sommiliers drunks?
Hahahahaha omg I literally drove right by this winery on the PCH when passing through Lompoc. Crappy town, but this winery looks kinda amazing.
There's about 20 tasting rooms in Lompoc. Bout all of em are awesome
Does anyone know the brand/type of glasses they're tasting from?
muptagraw zalto denk’art
What Wines!!!
I dont get it, there's an Indian guy in California, he likes wine and he keeps talking about french wine and Japan.
+irishelk being cosmopolitan has nothing to do with being well traveled. it has to do with being comfortable and fluent in different cultures. we live in a cosmopolitan world where traditional stereotypes no longer apply. people can abandon their childhood culture and become a part of another culture, or many cultures that they feel an affinity for. it's actually a beautiful thing.
RedroomStudios Okay thank you but it does mean that, i looked it up, thats how you learn things, by doing some research. Well i hate to inform you, you may live in a well sheltered area and nicely cocooned in your upper middle class neighborhood, but unfortunately people do still use stereotypes, i personally dont care about a persons social status because these things are just bullshit, once someone is decent and down to earth and doesnt look down on others then im cool with them.
+irishelk the only one looking down on other people appears to be you. the people in this video are totally down to earth. just because you feel inferior to them.... that's your problem, not theirs. you seem to be obsessed with putting labels on everyone.
of course stereotypes still exist, but the point is that the world is civilized and free enough now that stereotypes or tradition no longer limit what individuals can do. you see it a lot in chef and wine making culture. in fact that is pretty much what this Chef's Night Out series is all about... the appreciation and fusing of different cultures.
none of this has anything to do with social status. you are simply showing your own insecurity.
You are an idiot. Just because a sommelier is Indian. The old stereotypes are changing for Indians
yeah, ah no, i know where your coming from.
8:34 Thumbs up!
The beginning made me cringe
I like to swirl my wine to feel fancy
NO Comparison between this boring lame episode and Action Bronson's Paris Edition with Clovis !!!!
Totally contrived...thumbs down
so damn boring worst chef's night
Wine people are the worst
The dude carrying that dumb sign is the type of guy, that just doesn't let a dumb joke rest. Where you have to physically just throw the shit out on him, when he goes to take a piss.
There was something missing from this episode... not the usual vibe? The end kind of brought it together, but overall a bland episode from "our" supposed sommeliers favorite sommelier...
SOMM, SOMM 2 & SOMM 3 led me here.
No proper sommelier is calling an American sparkling wine Champagne!
pay attention
If you look closely, they are drinking a very expensive bottle of Jacques Selosse, which is from Champagne. Also, Rajat Parr is one of the best sommeliers in the United States.
X379 You are right... it didn't even stroke my mind, thinking of a grower champagne. It surely doesn't look like a classic champagne.
Very expensive? Only for what it is [Dom Perignon rose or even Roederer Cristal rose are more expensive].
Not sure though, if it shows great appreciation, to drink on the road a prestige rose champagne...
Dominik MJ To be honest I don't really see respect with people drinking gobs of Dom Perignon or Armand de Brignac either, in clubs and at parties etc. So I feel like drinking a great grower champagne in a car is at least a little better, but not right. But still, if you asked me to have a bottle of Selosse rose or Roederer Cristal, I'd rather have the Selosse. I think the price is based on reputation from the producer and still being Grand Cru just like so many other prestigious champagnes.
X379 You are right. To get drunk in nightclubs seems quite wrong [well it really also depends in the setting]. But at least a sommelier supposed to know better. Cristal is pretty much overpriced - I never tried Selosse - however I tried a lot of wines and champagnes and I can't see a point to spend so much money on one bottle. It is reputation, limited production, etc. - but I can't see a wine to have that much value. Actually I have tried e.g. Moet & Chandon Grand Vintage - yes it is slightly more expensive than the original - yes it is still a big brand - but this champagne I can have fun with [sounds a bit wrong, doesn't it?]! Amazing [though on a clearly higher note] is Nicolas Feuillate Palm d'Or.
I am usually pretty disappointed by Dom Perignon - not a bad champagne at any means, though not really what I expect for the price...
Raj is goals
No shout out for the François Raveneau? What gives?
I'm not sure my sommelier has a favorite sommelier. I could ask him.
so pb
i miss what Munchies used to be.. this "elitist dining" as i like to call it, just isnt for me
RIP Seth Kunin
Aw man. You could always see the ones that really want to be a host of a show. But I'll give Raj the benefit of the doubt and just attribute it to his sommelier profession.
BTW "sommelier" is not recognized by the auto-correct or whatever it's called.
plot twist, munchies needs to make some bad episodes and this is one of them
I miss Cali! Wine is so cheap out there.
It's hard for me to abstain, here in France. So much very acceptable wine is so cheap!
CuteCatFaith Prices pretty high here in Pennsylvania. I had really high tolerance after my 2 week trip in San Francisco. I found a place that sold bottles for $3.
Blayer PointduJour
You might want to look into my Slovenian relatives in the Cleveland, Ohio area. I don't even recall their name, but the clevelandmarko channel can direct you. My Parisian spouse quit drinking well over a decade ago, but he was an absolute wine snob, and he was thrilled with that wine on a visit to my family in Ohio. He felt it compared with the lower tier types of French wines just fine, and I recall I found it highly, highly affordable. The regions just South of Lake Erie are great for vines. The weather is horrible, the people are horrible, but hey. I went nuts over the wines of the North Fork of Long Island, New York. You will likely have to bite the bullet when you find something you like, and buy a case at a time. I relied heavily on Astor Wines in NYC back in the day. I could get a human on the phone to help me select my orders, and even though I lived in Brooklyn most of my time in NYC, I could get in on their weekly Brooklyn delivery. I think when an economy is busy, wine prices can be quite reasonable. It's just a theory. I am in my sixth decade, and have lived, worked and studied in four countries. The poorer the population is, the more any vices will tend to cost. Despite what I hear from the sour grapes crowd in the USA, France is doing fine -- not everywhere, but in and around Paris, things have been gangbusters since 2010. The recession was hell in 2009, you could hear a pin drop, but it was very, very, very short term. A lot of people in France have a NICOLAS in their town, city or village. This is a "caviste." You can arrange for cases of wine and any specialty alcohols they have, but they also have these cheapies from family vineyards, general label, and it's about 2 USD per bottle. PointduJour means daybreak, right? xo bises
CuteCatFaith Thank you for the information. Everyone seems to have a different translation of my last name. Im haitian. I was told once that pointdujour means bridge of the day.
Blayer PointduJour
I know it to mean "daybreak." "Pont" is bridge, "point" is a period in grammar or some other things. I knew some really nice Haitians in NYC. Very hard-working. There are some pretty funny names for people among blacks, in French. A flower or a month is a man's name, such as Hyacinthe or Violet, or Avril, and Dieudonné is a fun one, "God-given." Aimé (Amy) is also a man's name in French ("beloved"). A lot of people in the South of the USA have French names and they don't know why. They are probably descendants of French child slaves. Any unaccompanied child was seized until about 1800 (a little before). The parents or guardians had to show up and pay the fine, or the kid was sent overseas "to propagate the French race." This was highly lucrative for the régime(s). They either got the fees, or the price on a kid for free labor. I have an ancestor in the USA who was named "Favorite." He wasn't the favorite at all, she just had a lot of children, and that was the easiest birth, so he was "Favorite William." How did you end up with "Blayer?"
Seth already six feet under
So why is this supposed to be the favorite Sommelier ? To be honest they are probably better in Europe espacially France since it has been a craft forever there ...
cool shit
did that guy call himself humble? also, what kind of sick fuck doesnt feed a pug human food? i see alot of negative comments, felt like i had to leave one too even tho i wasnt that appalled by the video.
raj parr = indian guy trapped in side of italian guys body
Daydrinking
Chef's Night Out is my favorite series. But this shit was boring.
Boring AND pretentious. What a combo.
I’ve never been so turned off to go to Santa Barbara.
Interesting that if you are a low functioning alcoholic that you could just call yourself sommelier and everything is fine.
That 'rose champagne' has a colour of 1970s sauternes. Either too old or light-strucked. Don't think that will taste right. And Chinese cha-siu sauce BBQ vegetable... erm, I will pass that.
Classic wine bore.
But is he a master sommelier?
Raj Parr is THE master sommelier in California. The Bloom's Field pinot he produces is the most Burgundyan stateside. Liquid gold.
nope
he's so stiff!
No.
boringgggggg
not the most exciting sommelier... kinda boring.
Half of those dislikes, just cause his Indian
Or for Michael Jackson pepper (I put up with the dead raccoon penis comment over lunch but paused and disliked when some nobody disrespected Mike), plus you poured too much on a drinking tour, the boring food and lame style or just generally because most Norml people would not hang with these lames - except the chick, she was ok.
I really don't want to sound terrible, but there should be an age limit for Munchies chefs. People like this guy would do better on Food Network or something; this shit was intensely boring. The Guns and Butter guy from Detroit was a douche, but at least he was entertaining
This just felt awkward
glad they didnt spat out more wine
i wanna do nice things with her
Ugh the douchyness is too much over wine
why the franche name when is whin from america? haha this people have no idea what is good wine, thats for shore. the best wines are from portugal and thats the end.
The guy is insufferable
yeah... awkward as fuck
Ugh
ridiculous "job"
This episode was trash I had to turn it off, we need more Eddie and Bronson
Painful.
Boringgggg
this was pretty terrible. i dont trust that sommelier at all
weak
