What's with all the hatred? They honestly seem like a bunch of chill dudes and look like they get along with each other pretty well, considering they probably spend upwards of 65+ hrs a week with each other in the kitchen.
These dudes fucking rule, most chefs don't have the determination to just go in an open up a spot like that. Awesome to see they are still around and making killer food.
Long time ago, I ordered an Irish Car Bomb. My Dad's face went white. He had given me a summer to visit family in Belfast. The most polite ass kicking I ever had...
I agree with your point here, however the video is called 'A Night Out with Brooklyn restaurant owners', so thats what its expected to be about. The start was merely the documented guys briefly explaining their occupations and commitments, before the main event, which is their night out.
This video has inspired me to stop procrastinating and to finish off my assignment which is in for tomorrow. I want to eat at restaurants when i'm older!
I love these so much. Great chefs talking intimately about food. Then going out to other places they like to eat and maybe getting drunk in the process. Finally back to their restaurant to make a munchies dish. Just a perfect concept. I'll never get tired of these. You'll run out of chefs to interview first.
I don't understand this hate. all these insults are just outlandish and petty. they're making a living off of what they studied for, made something of the time and effort they've put into their craft, and are proud of their work. calm down, guys, jeez. this is hardly the worst bunch of guys in the munchies series.
Fernet Branca popular with chefs/restaurant workers. They were drinking it pre-meal @ 4:58 mark but it's considered a digestif. But I suppose no rules apply & it does depend a bit on what you're mixing it with.
I say thank God for the hipsters. While I'll never quite understand the "cool" of tats & piercings...old fart that I am--these chefs are so creative. I'm convinced we are in a golden age of food ingredients & the culinary arts.
Stop commenting and criticizing these chefs. Unless you actively work in a restaurant and understand all the hard work involved, then don't say shit. Chef's have historically been the outcasts, losers and rejects, working their asses off, missing holidays, birthdays, even weddings.
Thatkimm Who gives a shit? They chose that line of work. Why do people in food service feel they have some right to bitch about anybody who doesn't work in food service?
these guys seem to love their jobs despite all that they have to go through being in food service. I don't think they give two shits what people are saying about them, and good on em for that :)
This is actually the crossover point of gentrification, it goes working class denizens -> artsy hipsters -> upper class, plastic cookie cutter people. Rinse & Repeat. I used to get angry at gentrification, but it is inevitable. On another note, all that food looked awesome!
You need passion, love to do it, and most importantly ACCESS TO FRESH QUALITY INGREDIENTS!! US people are so so lucky in that aspect, organic, fresh stuff that don't cost a fortune. I am jealous every time i watch these episodes))
I don't feel the same at all. I think Vice is a great publisher they write and make documentaries about *all* kinds of cultures not only "scary drug dealers" and I think that's great.
The next time I got like six hundo to drop on food and bevvys, maybe I'll get to experience this kind of night out. Very enjoyable to watch, but I'm fuckin jealous.
I like almost all of these relatively short pieces of theirs, as I think the small "Scale" of these are sometimes more interesting than some of the larger "Scale" "Nuke dealer" type of exposés they make. Afterall, This is much more relevant to the majority of people including myself, and they also just make me feel good watching them!
Ok, but there are only so many times that Vice can find people and places like those and go to them. It's not as easy as it looks and those types of docs probably involve a lot of planning, money and not to mention risking the safety of the crew and host. Try to be thankful that Vice can find the time to make these smaller episodes in between the big high-profile ones.
It's all VICE ! Cheers for the all the great series my first choice on you tube- oh and just this month an actually "magazine" had found its way into the house ! Been so long ..:)
It's not the guys, its the way Vice portrays them. The questions they asked are directed to give the desired response so they can put in this video that is of Vices vision. We're seeing these guys from Vice's eyes, I bet if you interviewed these guys yourself it'd be very different and a lot less "ground-breaking".
I can get a Calzone, Mozzarala Pizza, and a Delious Sub Sandwhich at my local Italian resturant for the same price they pay for a Glass of Food that looks like Barf :D
You're saying it as if they're never doing that again.. Of course they can't release gnarly shit every week.. Please be patient.. Vice uploads everything from interesting food docs to people in LSD palaces .. Thats what makes them so awesome.
Pretty sure he said 'maraschino', as in maraschino liqueur. Kinda bitter, kinda almondy, together with Jameson, egg whites, and sugar, would make a pretty good substitute for Bailey's.
Too many hipster kids out there these days in the restaurant business are David Chang wannabes. Adding an egg yolk here n there and rearranging the plates and called it their own. Create your own food!
If you were fed three strips of asparagus in prison, it'd be a violation of human rights. If you fork out a shitload of money to hipsters for it, it's considered avant-garde. Jesus.
The asparagus isn't the focus of the dish, the morels are. And though I don't know the price on that dish, I can say that that is a generous portion of morels, and the rest of the dish is high-technique. This is for people with disposable income. The same way you'd shell out a couple more bucks for something that isn't a can of PBR, you'd shell out a couple more bucks for something that isn't flat-top mushrooms on microwaved rice.
how would one be filled with that little amount of food? I swear All these people go to Mc Donalds after this resturant cause they are still hungry, HAHAHHAHAHA
True., and i completely understand what you feel, i do work at a restaurant too, and boy i wouldn't even want to go out for 2 minutes with the many of my co-workers. Though a couple co-workers did become close friends. What i mean is, work is work and that's our job, what happens after work is recreational, but that being said jumping from restaurant to restaurant while working in one seems a bit boring to be honest.
Sooooo its a documentary about 2 guys who own a expensive restaurant that doesn't look high class but still has that rich boy cost and they that go out drinking for over half of the filming? K thanks vice.
nah MORELS are easy to collect . you just have to train your eyes to see them . if you collect morels above 4000 feet, they contain no insect larvae. ;-] don't forget to bring a sharp knife to cut the stalks. if you cleanly cut the stalks leaving some stalk remaining they will regrow . if you rip them out it damages the mycelium base taking years to repair.
Traditionally cooking is the combination of multiple ingredients to create one flavour. The taste is meant to be a unity of individual ingredients. The problem with modern chefing is that the ethos is the exact opposite. Modern cuisine is about creating lots of individual tastes and presenting them alongside each other, hoping they pair well. Pseudo-chefs can combine flavours but not unify them. I think the dishes here are cooked very traditionally but are trying to be new combinations/ideas.
back when 'chef's night out' was simply called 'munchies' .. mind blown
I'd have to say that my favorite part of the show is that they always get so toasted and then have to cook for a whole buncha people.
What's with all the hatred? They honestly seem like a bunch of chill dudes and look like they get along with each other pretty well, considering they probably spend upwards of 65+ hrs a week with each other in the kitchen.
Yeah, seem like chill dudes just trying to cook some good food and trying to have some fun on the side lol ...people hate just to hate.
These dudes fucking rule, most chefs don't have the determination to just go in an open up a spot like that. Awesome to see they are still around and making killer food.
Yeah I think they're still doing it
All these guys need is some handlebar mustaches and the circle would be complete.
Long time ago, I ordered an Irish Car Bomb. My Dad's face went white. He had given me a summer to visit family in Belfast. The most polite ass kicking I ever had...

I love it when they go to a sick restaurant then ask the chefs where they eat and go there lol.
we're reaching levels of hipster that shouldn't be attainable...
jefftc14 in what way. your comment is more hipster than this show.
I say thank God for the hipsters. While I'll never quite understand the "cool" of tats & piercings...old fart that I am--these chefs are so creative. I'm convinced we are in a golden age of food ingredients & the culinary arts.
That pizza looked good at the end lol.
8:11 lol@ the bartender's reaction
That Mike guy is so grounded it's hilarious.
Stop commenting and criticizing these chefs. Unless you actively work in a restaurant and understand all the hard work involved, then don't say shit. Chef's have historically been the outcasts, losers and rejects, working their asses off, missing holidays, birthdays, even weddings.

800lb Gorilla
"about the welfare-losers who collect a check and refuse to work or contribute in any way to society" That's legit.
these guys seem to love their jobs despite all that they have to go through being in food service. I don't think they give two shits what people are saying about them, and good on em for that :)
"and then its gone in like 5 seconds" yeah because you gave half a cup of goo to 3 people to share
I need to start drinking with chefs
love how he asked mike how he came up with the concept of pizza
This is actually the crossover point of gentrification, it goes working class denizens -> artsy hipsters -> upper class, plastic cookie cutter people. Rinse & Repeat.
I used to get angry at gentrification, but it is inevitable.

i thought russia increase the organic farming producers
Those guys are amazing, I can´t understand how they can do it all themselves
Totally agree. I live in New York, and I love to partake in what Brooklyn and the Lower East Side have to offer.
I don't feel the same at all. I think Vice is a great publisher they write and make documentaries about *all* kinds of cultures not only "scary drug dealers" and I think that's great.
You should do a catch up with all these restaurants to see where they all are now.
That would be really interesting
this was an enjoyable vid, Vice
They only had 4-5 years kitchen experience before opening this spot
Looks like they're drinking to forget how much they can't actually stand working with each other.
anyone who is out-of-the-ordinary is considered a hipster.
Every serious cook hates brunch. It blows.
dude. i dont feel like that at all. Feel still that their channel is one of best in youtube.
The next time I got like six hundo to drop on food and bevvys, maybe I'll get to experience this kind of night out. Very enjoyable to watch, but I'm fuckin jealous.
the title of the video is "A Night Out with Local Brooklyn Restaurant Owners" its about their lifestyles not just focussing on their restaurant.
They drink Fernet Branca a lot. I swear Fergus Henderson helped make that drink popular.
these guys indulge in some recreational drugs on the regular
I like almost all of these relatively short pieces of theirs, as I think the small "Scale" of these are sometimes more interesting than some of the larger "Scale"
"Nuke dealer" type of exposés they make. Afterall, This is much more relevant to the majority of people including myself, and they also just make me feel good watching them!

Hipsters everywhere...
That concoction in the bar glass at the 3:00 minute mark looked delicious.
the title of the video is A Night Out with Local Brooklyn Restaurant Owners
They seem a bit low on energy.
+Tobias lol yeah to say the least
what do expect from a wd-50 rip off
"rip off". Any chances that you are an ex-chef?
Yea try the half japanese guy if u want energy
keep in mind their prices are probably as unrealistic as their portions.
really like the music in the background when they are introducing Brooklyn Social
4 little pieces of Asparagus???? are you fucking kidding me.
That guy looked SO stoned the entire video. with all the tattoos i forget his name but he was HIGH AS FUCK.
It's all VICE ! Cheers for the all the great series my first choice on you tube- oh and just this month an actually "magazine" had found its way into the house ! Been so long ..:)
These two look hammered.
Mike is such a Badass!
Forget the Zombie Apocalypse, I'm more afraid of the Hipster Apocalypse...
i'd eat three pieces of asparagus right now and I wouldn't turn down a glass of crab who's buying
These boys are on that KUSH.
I can get a Calzone, Mozzarala Pizza, and a Delious Sub Sandwhich at my local Italian resturant for the same price they pay for a Glass of Food that looks like Barf :D
Hipsters certainly didn't invent fine cuisine, but they did ruin it. One day when they go under, they'll just stick to taking Instagrams of cupcakes
The whole hipster association with Fernet Branca... I'm thinking that must have started with St John in London...
did mike even say a word ?
You're saying it as if they're never doing that again.. Of course they can't release gnarly shit every week.. Please be patient.. Vice uploads everything from interesting food docs to people in LSD palaces .. Thats what makes them so awesome.
There is something humble about simplicity...
well, i'm from Toronto, but for Christmas i'll be visiting family in New York for the first time, needless to say i'm just a WEE BIT EXCITED! :D
The title of this video is A Night out With Brooklyn Restaurant Owners, mr. logic.
Mike looks like a cool dude and he looks like the villain from Charlie's Angels
Pretty sure he said 'maraschino', as in maraschino liqueur. Kinda bitter, kinda almondy, together with Jameson, egg whites, and sugar, would make a pretty good substitute for Bailey's.
The bald one is a receiver for sure.
The food these chefs eat when they go out looks better than the food in their own restaurant!!
The proper chefs!
Too many hipster kids out there these days in the restaurant business are David Chang wannabes. Adding an egg yolk here n there and rearranging the plates and called it their own. Create your own food!
This comment honestly makes no sense. Lmao.
11:55 my worst nightmare
Definitely got that right, though i wouldn't mind to indulge in a night or two. lol
If you were fed three strips of asparagus in prison, it'd be a violation of human rights. If you fork out a shitload of money to hipsters for it, it's considered avant-garde. Jesus.
Only complaint...It refuses to buffer ahead

The food looks delicious but with those portion sizes I'd still be starving after I left
I fucking love fernet, shots for everybody!
i came for the stop download dish, never saw it again Vice???
how would one be filled with that little amount of food? I swear All these people go to Mc Donalds after this resturant cause they are still hungry, HAHAHHAHAHA

A good chef makes good food that anyone that afford to eat
what the fuck, all these guys look 20 years old. How much trust fund money is involved here
Chefs - the original chemists
Not everyone in the entire world want to watch exciting/scary parts of the world during their free time. They are just opening to different audiences.
Vice became a huge media company and Shane and Suroosh both made money and now realize how much being alive is actually worth?
I do know what you're saying and agree slightly, but to be honest I love food and food documentaries too. Vice are still making good videos.
apparently watching food videos is like watching porn. you watch until you explode. or go for food in this case.
Hipsters. Hipsters everywhere.
Guaranteed closed by now 🤣🤣🤣
Think they've opened two new restaurants.
wonder if that aged like milk or not
The answer to every great tasting restaurant dish is a heavy cream sauce, and or butter. End of story.
You know it's going to rat shit when the Fernet Branca comes out.....
Munchies is the best fucking web series ever ever ever invented fucking ever fuck.
Sooooo its a documentary about 2 guys who own a expensive restaurant that doesn't look high class but still has that rich boy cost and they that go out drinking for over half of the filming?
K thanks vice.

I know that, I forgot to say that I would only go to these restaurants if I had money to burn and wanted to try their food.
Hipster nightmare.
Gotta' admire the dedication of the two chef/owners, though. It's always good to see people that devoted to what they do.
"A Night Out with Local Brooklyn Restaurant Owners"
I just get tired of all people saying that the food looks terrible, just stick to your god damn pizza, burgers and tacos...
Traditionally cooking is the combination of multiple ingredients to create one flavour. The taste is meant to be a unity of individual ingredients.

It's Einstein with a capital E
i agree with you but the video is named "a night out with local restaurant owners"
They literally are a couple of chefs who went out to eat, then drink with friends, and then made some fucking pizza. What the fuck is your deal dude?
Those Hipsters are cool....
