Hey Kri, the auto-switching algorithm is designed to be creative and not just hold a single camera angle. The wide shot with multiple microphones will also be used if someone is talking continuously and not just when both mics are active, but if it has the same priority then it will receive the same screen time as the other cameras. For this setup, we recommend setting the two guests to high and then the wide shot to low. This will mean the close up shots receive more air time, and then the wide shot will only be used occasionally to maintain a dynamic feel to the production. We will continue to monitor feedback, and every production is different which will allow us to further fine tune the algorithm!
Thanks for algorithm details and setting recommendations. Will continue testing including more realistic situations. Amazing device and I’m excited to see how you implement user feedback!
Hey. If you could provide much better documentation and guides it would be amazing. I think I need this but I can’t get the answers to questions anywhere
I do a lot of live taping as well, the option to lock onto one speaker is key. then the wide when everyone is talking. I don't mind it not using the wide as much. Think of it this way, if your filming a conference, and your main speaker is at the podium, and cam 2 and 3 are set up at a table for tight shots, and camera 4 is the wide of that table, if you use Auto, your wide shot would show up while the other guests are not ready, and the shot is now useless. Perhaps have an option for locked switching, were it only cuts to the wide when a 2nd mic is on for .5 sec, or dynamic when you want the more creative look. Other than that I can't wait to get my hands on one. FYI, if you end up making a v2, please add 4 mic inputs and up to 6 hdmi, I would gladly pay 2k for it.
I have really been enjoying your content. I really hope your subscriber count grows exponentially! Awesome reviews!! No one else has been covering this. This was what I need it for!
Thanks. Great overview. Have you tested how the auto-switching works when you don’t have a second person in the studio on the second mic, but instead online. Can it automatically prioritise external inputs?
This is not the only RUclipsr reporting the same issue , so first of all thanks for the honest review that alone deserves a thumbs up and you got yourself a new a Sub. And lastly after reading the comment from Rode Caster down below mine it’s seems that it is not a “Plug and Play” feature one might expect. I also believe the tech is getting closer but for now RodeCaster is not there yet.
Thank you and welcome! I think Rode is listening and will make updates in the future. I'm going to use their setting recommendations and test on some upcoming client recordings to see how their algorithm plays in a more realistic setup. Stay tuned!
If you have a Rodecaster Pro II connected via USB in multitrack mode, can you map video inputs on the Rodecaster Video to one of the channels on the Rodecaster Pro II? Or is it just microphones connected directly to the Rodecaster Video either via the 2 combi ports or over one of the HDMIs? I can see it being a really useful feature, but only if the individual inputs on the Rodecaster Pro II show up as audio sources that it can monitor/map. Thanks!
You totally answered my question with the auto-switching feature with the Rodecaster Video. I think the combo of the Atem Extreme ISO and Mix Effect is better (for now). I'm also really curious of YoloLiv's new update that runs Video Follows Audio AKA (Autoswitch)
Didn't expect it to be perfect, but honestly worse than I expected. Also curious about YoloLiv. At the end of the day, the more competition, the better for the consumer. Can only go up from here.
@@kriedholm I think that YOLO Ultra is the answer right now. The only thing about the Rode is that XLR / 1/4 connection is a game changer. Really like the Ultra for its portability.
If you give all cameras the same priority, my guess is that it would give equal switch time to each angle. Not sure if that meets your def of more smoothly. It would feel like more equal time for each angle.
I'm going to test the priority settings in Rode Central on some upcoming recordings and will share my findings. I think this setting will have more of an impact than aggressive mic gating. We'll see!
Could Rode integrate the video functionalities of the Rodecaster Video into the Rodecaster Pro 2 in the next product? That would create a killer all-in-one device, combining both video and audio capabilities. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be in a rush to buy this product. It lacks many intuitive features and feels like just the beginning of a promising future for similar products.
@@kriedholm hey thanks for replying, particularly. I am wondering if I can connect 4 microphones two XLR two USB to control auto switching or even connector rodecastor pro
@@kriedholmI have mic 1/cam 1 high priority for the host mic2/cam 2 medium priority I manually switch my cam 3 because it’s a wide shot. Cam 4 is my overhead cam. I did not assign a priority to the 3rd cam so maybe that’s why I did not encounter that problem.
I’m not sure this is a fair test of this function. If you don’t have another person in the studio how can you stand by these results and say it’s suspect? I’d be surprised if the auto switching is perfect or even really good but If I were testing it I’d give it a real go and setup the proper test before saying it didn’t work.
I agree not a realistic situation, however, I think that because multiple people aren't speaking over one another, the result should be clearer. Either mic 2 or mic 2, no in between.
What are your thoughts on the Rodecaster Video so far?

Hello…I came across your channel yesterday and I just wanna say it is very informative. Thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤
You are so welcome and thanks for tuning in!
Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
You are very welcome!

I haven't done that, but it should be a similar experience with the way mapping is set up.
I love your take on the RCV. The auto switching is so clutch. This is definitely how I’d be using it for my podcast production for clients
Glad it was helpful and thanks for tuning in!
I just stick to the ATEM ISO's. Thanks for pointing out the flaws so far.
Not a bad plan. Thanks for tuning in!
I'd imagine the wide shot being set to low would make a difference?
Very nice and practical review. Thanks for the test and demo.

Superb video - thanks for doing the test - exactly my concern
Thanks, Raj. More to come!
PS. What tripods are you using here? They look awesome!
Those are the Mefoto tripods. Love them and the fun colors: www.mefoto.com/
Hi! I really like your videos and tutorials 🔥I would really like to know how you are upscaling 1080 to 4k in post?
Thank you! I upscale by creating a 4k timeline in Final Cut and export using 4k settings as well. Hope that helps!

I believe that if you set up a scene using the RCP2, you can map from there.

With that auto switching issue, do you think if you set all 3 to the same "priority" setting, like medium for example, it would work more smoothly?
If you give all cameras the same priority, my guess is that it would give equal switch time to each angle. Not sure if that meets your def of more smoothly. It would feel like more equal time for each angle.
Can you set a minimum db for it to consider before switching?
It only has priority settings at the moment. No min db.
Could this be resolved with more aggressive gating on the mics, so they don't pick up the other speakers?

They certainly could. I think this is the first of many devices that combine a/v. Will be fun to see where they go with this.
Can you do auto switching with four inputs?
There are 3 options currently available in settings

What happened to the MKH50 mic?
I still use it all the time, just not in this video. One of my favorite mics!

It is a consumer electronics device.
Ah man what an angering moment. My RCV switched with no problem. So it may be a software problem.

You’re not the first person to have this problem. I saw on other reviews the same thing that you are experiencing. Still have a few bugs.
Glad it’s not just me and it’s still very early in the release lifecycle. Hoping they prioritize this one.
