My son taught himself to play the uke. He’s pretty good too. I can play some too, and I used my guitar knowledge and music theory. As for lead, I’ll just start with chord tones and go pentatonic.
You do know that there is also a baritone ukulele that is tuned DGBE, so it’s basically a regular guitar without the E and A strings. Very easy for guitarists to get used to without transposing chord shapes.
George Harrison was a serious ukulele advocate and player. There are stories of him stopping over his friend's homes and passing put ukuleles from the trunk/boot of his car. My kid loves her Cordoba Concert Uke.
The Tobacco Burst version of that Epiphone Hummingbird Ukulele is way more classier looking than the Cherry Burst version. I bought the Tobacco Burst version the second I seen they were available a few months back, as I needed a Uke for a recording and it's a killer price for a well constructed Ukulele that also has a pick up. It's a shame that Ukulele's have such a bad rep due to people thinking it's an "Easy Instrument" and they only bother to learn 4 chords and think that every song is a simple C-Am-F-G7th chord progression. As if you learn to play it properly, it's can be an amazing addition to your repertoire, and it's soundscape is unlike any other instrument. It's just unfortunate that the vast majority of people playing Ukulele now are people with no intentions of progressing past 4 chords (or the third fret), can't tell if their instrument is in tune, and they are more concerned with following a Robotic Strumming Pattern as opposed to learning different chords and chord voicings. If you click on any Ukulele Cover/Tutorial video, the comments are always full of people panicking over "What's the Strumming Pattern?" as opposed to just naturally being able to find the Strumming Pattern through their own rhythm. ... or people complaining about the difficulties of playing an E Chord and instead of learning the chord, they just say "Oh just use an E7th Chord instead!". The Ukulele is a great instrument, but Modern Ukulele Players are hands down the laziest Musicians and they give the Instrument an unfair and undeserved bad reputation.
This was so amazing to watch. I want to be able to jam like this. Seriously, this was so wholesome. I would totally buy ukuleles from you if I was in your area.
Also... a gear related question. What was the amp that you plugged the ukes into at the end? I'm thinking of investing in a Fender Mustang amp and am hoping I can use it for my uke, acoustic guitar and electric guitar. What do you think?
Some guitarists say "I don't know how to play a Ukulele" but they don't realise that if you put capo on the 5th fret of your guitar and forget the top two strings you LITERALLY get a Ukulele. Bam!
Adi Iqbal I’ve justified my purchases like this. As long as all other financial responsibilities are taken care of, and if you have the money to spend, then who cares? As an owner of a bunch of ukulele's that range from a $60 Kala to a $1200 Kamaka HF-2 get yourself what you want that's within your price range. I recommend theukulelesite.com as they set up every instrument that leaves their shop. Keep in mind some of the most expensive Ukulele's are boring to look at.
Loved the shredding on a Uke! If you want to see just how versatile the Ukulele can be, check out James Hill doing "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" on the Uke... absolutely incredible! ruclips.net/video/0wzsE67O5tE/видео.html
russians do have a saying: в умелых руках и хуй балалайка (in skillful hands even a dick is a balalaika) p.s. balalaika is a somewhat similar instrument to an ukulele )))
A low G tends to make it sound more like a guitar whereas a high G is a more typical ukulele sound. Also you might find a low G is better suited to fingerpicking but it's perfectly possible to pick with a high G too. In other words it doesn't really matter! Try both.
@@kingstumble Thx, the confusing thing was some ukulele stars do indeed use the low g, others use the high g. If you want to play like those with a low g, you need to replace your strings. Or have two ukes. But I agree, low g is more like 'plain' guitar. I had the intention to learn to play James Hill's Billy Jean (there is a tutorial on YT), but found the restringing cumbersome, as I wanted to keep the typical ukulele sound for my other songs.
I did just that with mine, though I went with the D'Addario flourocarbons- instantly transformed it! I don't know why manufacturers insist on putting such crappy strings on out the box.
If I had seen people play Uke like this in the 80s, the Ukulele would have been my very 1st instrument. I love my (Electric) guitar, but I am totally smitten by the Uke, it's not even funny anymore.

What ukulele with floyd rose would you recommend?
*Ibanez will remember that*

The Jackson Ka mō'ī V may work
Pete needs to be given a harp just to see what he does with it. This is fantastic playing from both here
Imagine your guitar with a capo on V, playing only the D-G-B-e strings, there's your ukulele.
That's how I learnt to play. Practised on my guitar for a few weeks before I bought one when I went to Hawaii
That’s the tuning for a tenor uke. If you put a low string on the bottom it is much more like playing a capo v guitar.
@@MrAyla you're right, but that does not matter for the fingering of the chords
My son taught himself to play the uke. He’s pretty good too. I can play some too, and I used my guitar knowledge and music theory. As for lead, I’ll just start with chord tones and go pentatonic.
Why are ukelele such godamn happy instruments.
A Hummingbird uke - now there's something I haven't seen before.
Sam: I don't know how to play eukelele
Pete: Here's how you play a 12 bar blues in C....
Sam and Pete start jamming...

Ukulele videos were not something that I had realized I needed until today!
always amazed by pete's playing. such a joy to watch!
This was awesome. I subscribed to this channel for acoustic paradiso, but there's never enough! Keep it up guys

True. There are a few vids of him---one with Jeff Lynn if I recall. I've tried lots and found a tenor suits me best.
That's amazing. I didn't know that about George. Adore him, so as a ukulele player, this little fact nugget made me smile.
I've got a Floyd whammy & Burstbuckers on my uke. I keep it drop-tuned. 🔥
Intro sounds like something you'd hear over a Lloyd's bank advert :-)
Pete really is the guy you meet and within an hour he’s your best friend.
Do i see a Rob + blindfold Uke challenge coming up? Can he tell the tone wood and cheap vs expensive uke?
You guys are good for a moment there I thought I wanted a ukulele. It seems to have passed.

Pete playing the ukulele is the perfect example of innate talent vs getting good just by practicing.
Only these chaps could trick me into watching a Ukulele review and end up enjoying the whole damned vid. Point to you, good sirs.
Once again Pete proves how amazing he is. That man would make a shoe box with elastic bands sound good....
Never ending story.... Greatest intro to a youtube video ever
I'm here just for the jams!
That guitar hanging on THEIR left in the background looks sick! Matches with the wall as well!
Ukulele with a pick?! Sacrilege! All of Hawaii will rise up and consume us all.

more more more ukuleles love it
I went from disgust at seeing ukuleles to admiration at how well you made them sound.
fingers on use not picks! There are different tunings. Some have the four higher strings of a guitar some have a high G. My dog has fleas.
Could you please plug one of those into a Marshall stack and handle it to Rob. 😂
I'd be interested in the string comparison for ukulele!
I've a Gretsch concert uke, great fun.
Balalaika wars?

i have 5 ukes. 3 of them are different sized. fun instruments to play particularly with a guitar.

You must take those black strings off the hummingbird and put a set of Aquila supernygut with a low G and it will turn that ukulele into a monster!

Oh very nice! It is such a great ukulele.
It is featured on my RUclips channel a lot.

Nice cap, Pete.
