Me and my grandpop watched it again, today. What a great and timeless show. I was thinking that re-booting the show would be a good idea, but this cast is too good and I'd rather just watch the old shows. Brilliant.

For years I thought I had seen every episode of Are You Being Served, but today I have been proven wrong. How did I happen to miss this one after all the years I have watched this series? I am delighted to have found what is to me a new episode!
This show still holds up today despite stereotypes and innuendos because the acting and writing are superb. The humor is good natured and not mean spirited.

prior to the popularity of RUBS, Bass was a hugely bigger actor than any of them, appearing in many films and TV shows in the 50s and 60s. But it seems he got overtaken in the end.

It's even better that he wasn't even "out" then, and everyone just assumed he was straight (they might have been a little more observant in the UK, but no one in the US had a clue).

I add the point that people in the UK might have been keen because there's a clip of a call-in show Elton was on where a girl was asking him how his marriage was going, and if he had any "habits" that upset his wife.

Mr. Goldberg is sly one. That's why he was quickly promoted to senior salesperson in the beginning when hired. On another note, I have watched these wonderful funny shows so many times here and on PBS. So sad none of actors are with us anymore.
I love how Mr Lucas said he was going to get Mr Humphries job after he left. Then he said when he tells them Whose been knicking all the staff from grace brother's he would have Mr goldberg's job as well.

I just love these episodes and feel sad that so many are deceased who did such creative acting. What an amazing bunch of writers to do weekly episodes. Many people think it is slap stick I think it is brilliant. I love love love the double meanings and all the common things turned into mush.

Honestly, I’m pretty sure Mr. Goldberg was supposed to be the stereotypical “Sneaky Jew”. Back then it was played up for laughs, cause nobody cared. But if you tried to have such a character on a show these days...oh dear. You would cause a riot lol. That being said, I COULD be wrong about all this but the name Goldberg kinda gives it away.
I fell in love with the show when we were stationed overseas. So funny. Great actors and John Iman was the best part. I was gifted the entire series now I watch it whenever I need a laugh💖

I remember watching AYBS on PBS as a kid. Even before Mr. Lucas made the comment, the first thing I thought of was how much that machine sounded like a Dalek.
I always loved this show years ago but never could get me mum to watch it with me. It's twice as good if you have someone to watch it with you and laugh along with you. Me mum is dead and once again I'm watching it alone.
Mr. Segal who appeared as the person returning the long sweater looks like the father/grandfather of Stephen Merchant from the BBC version of The Office.

Young Mr Grace was better suited playing the other brother of the owner of the store because Mr Grace didn’t really like to work but the second Mr Grace seemed more like a boss. He was a task master

Saturday evenings this was on PBS when I was on college. I did physics, calculus, and chemistry homework. The show was quiet enough to keep focused and humorous enough to ennervate the impulse to throw the books out of the window.
Yes, shows like these gave me an idea of what England's like. And when in the 1990 summer I was first in London I wasn't surprised. Alas, over the years the High Street has changed and not all for the better. I miss the ubiquitous Tie Rack, Sock Shop, Woolworth, bhs, Burtons, virgin marble arch.
I love this show. It is comforting to step back into this era of time.

I thought Arthur Brough (Mr. Grainger) was by far the best Senior Sales Person at the men's counter. But Alfie Bass (Mr. Goldberg) was second.
